But only fair you say which it is at the beginning Smile

OP posts:
Tanith · 21/07/2018 16:12

NIMH, rather Smile

kikisparks · 21/07/2018 16:28

Smile I haven’t actually read it but saw some of the cartoon. I probably should! It annoyed me they call her by Mrs husband’s first and last name though!

Mine are maybe too hard or I’m just impatient. Another clue for the first one- a poodle is fairly integral to the plot.

MissLingoss · 21/07/2018 16:32

Come to that, I'm surprised Meg Hopkins missed them. And other rule-followers such as Jean Baker. But it's a (mostly) fun scene with Crommie in good form.

(Can you imagine the number of 'WIBU to e-mail the school?' threads Crommie would provoke if she was real? And how little she would care?)

ScreamingValenta · 21/07/2018 16:36

Or Crommie's AIBU in 'The Staffroom' - AIBU to think it's their own fault? Grin

Tanith · 21/07/2018 16:54

I thought Jean Baker did read them? At any rate, she was able to reliably answer Miss Cromwell.
I do wish we had a reliable version of Crommie’s bread and butter reading booklist. Be so helpful on this thread, though some of them have made it, I see.

Kiki, prepare to swoon over Justin 💘Grin

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 21/07/2018 17:42

I want to know what Kikis is !

My mother was a children's writer but was always rather fixated on my brother she wrote for all of us but mostly about him which did him no favours at all at boarding school and he ended up a bit isolated in life generally

My parents are quite devoted to each other but have both had multiple affairs

Our Aunt pretty much raised us and despairs of our parents but sometimes oversteps the mark

I recently found out from my father that I'm not his biological child by virtue of him trying it on with me

(I think that's right)

A brilliant book for those that haven't read it

MipMipMip · 21/07/2018 17:57

Tanith the daughter of the author wrote some sequels to NIMH - I seem to remember Justin being in one. Smile

MipMipMip · 21/07/2018 17:57

The Children's Hour?

MipMipMip · 21/07/2018 18:03

Just checked - Justin lives! Apparently thete is a live action remake in the works...

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 21/07/2018 18:09

Mip! You've got it but the title slightly wrong

It's The Children's Book by AS Byatt

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 21/07/2018 18:12

Film:

My father has lately sold me into marriage to a dreadful oaf and we have to move to Virginia.

My father said he can send me back if I'm barren

I just want to be on the stage but it's men only

AIBU to do a runner and break the law?

MipMipMip · 21/07/2018 18:20

Shskespear in Love

kikisparks · 21/07/2018 18:21

For my first one, from the viewpoint of a different character:

My DS has SN and I’m ill equipped to cope with him to be honest. My DH does a much better job at being a parent but I’m no longer in love with him. WIBU to run away with the next door neighbour to London? I’ll send DS lots of letters and he can come visit me one day.

MipMipMip · 21/07/2018 18:21

Have to admit i hate The Childrend Book. I started because it had a pretty cover Blush and kept on hoping it went somewhere... glad some people liked it though.

MipMipMip · 21/07/2018 18:22

The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Nighttime

kikisparks · 21/07/2018 18:27

@MipMipMip yes! Grin really liked that book though now I look back poor Christopher both his parents are pretty awful. Would like to see the play.

MipMipMip · 21/07/2018 18:27

Can see how it would work as a play

MissLingoss · 21/07/2018 18:27

Have to admit i hate The Childrens Book. I started because it had a pretty cover

I bought it some time ago as the third book in a 3 for 2 deal, but when I started reading I recognised it as being based on the story of E. Nesbit and her husband Hubert Bland. I felt cheated, and didn't read any further.

(And Nesbit autocorrects to BedbugConfused)

kikisparks · 21/07/2018 19:08

Book, film

This guy at my new school is all shiny and beautiful, I fancy him rotten. His family seem a bit weird though tbh. Also he’s blowing hot and cold, one minute he acts like I stink the next he saves me from being hit by a van (still not sure how he did that Hmm) and if I pursue him I’m worried it will all turn out to be a pain in the neck.

MipMipMip · 21/07/2018 19:18

Twilight. Angry

MipMipMip · 21/07/2018 19:23

Get to my new planet and find that the body I've been given won't shut up! Everything else is lovely, everyone is lovely (except for one who is strange) but why am I hearing my body? It's not as if I'm new to this, I've had loads of bodies before. But this one is strange. And now I keep seeing strange markings..... This is not lovely.

kikisparks · 21/07/2018 19:36

@MipMipMip yup! Really rubbish book but had to be done!

TarquinGyrfalcon · 21/07/2018 19:50

As the 'family orphan' I spent my childhood being passed around from family to family. Because I was due a large inheritance my horrible uncle took me in expecting me to marry his oldest son so my fortune would rescue the decaying family home.
He and I get on, but he infuriates me as often he is just like his father - some of his attitudes towards the servants are shocking. One of the maids had to leave because she was with child.
AIBU to elope with his forward thinking younger brother.

Barabajagal · 21/07/2018 20:06

@MipMipMip The Host?

MissLingoss · 21/07/2018 20:17

Tarquin, is that Flambards?
