But only fair you say which it is at the beginning Smile

Book and TV show: I'm profoundly in love with the girl next door, but she doesn't seem to want to know. My parents are barking mad, one's had an affair with the girl-next-door's father, the other's had an affair with a stick insect. The only solace I get is writing in my diary and sending intellectual poems to the BBC. I'll probably still be writing in this diary well into my 40s!

Poisonwood from the Dads angle. I did it from Adahs

Adrian Mole!

Drivemecrazy1974 · 20/07/2018 15:27

Yes! Was a bit easy MrStark but I do love those books!

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 20/07/2018 15:31

TV Show (no real spoilers as this is the premise)

I've recently found out that my DH has us up to our eyes in debt and is cheating on me

LTB obviously but I'm broke

My sisters ex is suing her for custody and she doesn't have the money to fight him

Our best friend has a really sick DD and the insurance doesn't cover everything.

We are thinking that if we robbed the supermarket takings were my sister works just the once, we'd all be sorted.

What could possibly go wrong ?

ScreamingValenta · 20/07/2018 15:38

Found you Smile Will be back after work.

MissLingoss · 20/07/2018 15:39

Film, a classic in its genre.

I have a reputation for being a good time girl. Some of the respectable residents of this town have made life difficult for me, so I'm moving away. My friend the local doctor is also moving. We've had a difficult journey, among other things a woman passenger went into labour and I had to help the doctor deliver her baby.

Another passenger has problems of his own, which he hopes to resolve at the end of the journey. He's not very experienced with women. He doesn't know about my past and he wants me to go with him to his farm. Should I go?

questionzzz · 20/07/2018 15:43

"One could post from the pov of several of the characters."

You know, when I first started playing I misunderstood the OP and thought it had to be written from a MiL point of view (even if there were no actual MiLs in the book lol). That's why I had that crazy stuff about "when will my lion son settle down with a lioness and give me grand lion cubs" in the previous thread (in reference to Narnia, obvs).

TBF, it is VERY fun to write from the MiL perpsective. But I guess you all thought I had an unhealthy fixation with MiLs (and who's to say I don't)

MissLingoss · 20/07/2018 15:46

I think originally it was supposed to be mils, and my first few were from a mil's pov. But it very soon departed from the original premise.

Ringo: drawls and swaggers Well, Ma'am, is it possible you're talking about an episode in my life that me and the missus like to call Stagecoach ?

glamorousgrandmother · 20/07/2018 15:52

MrStark Good Girls - I've only watched the first episode so far.

questionzzz · 20/07/2018 15:53

Oh right, I didn't rtft.

here is the one I had previously re-written from MiL pov:

My DS is an extremely bright academic (aren't they all), unfortunately widowed with two girls on his hands. The younger had a childhood accident which left her with a disfigured hand, the older, a teenager is just plain weird.
To get some help raising these two girls, I gently encouraged my DS to remarry. But I did NOT expect him to remarry a trousered floozy with a teenaged son of her own (seriously there is a lot of fuss in the book about the new wife wearing trousers). To make it worse, I have caught some indecent looks between the son and my older granddaughter.

Now they are all gone a road trip to Northumberland, to visit an old deserted house my DS recently inherited from a mad old aunt or something. I hear my elder granddaughter has taken to nude swimming- in that freezing sea! And that my younger grandaughter's hand has been healed by a local hermit.

What the hell is going on there?

glamorousgrandmother · 20/07/2018 16:03

drudge Rupert the Bear?

iismum · 20/07/2018 16:07

I had one on the earlier thread which no one guessed so I'm going to do it again from another pov (not the MIL one though, sorry). It's a book.

I've just got engaged to the most lovely girl - sweet, devoted, good and true. I know she'll make me a wonderful wife. But I got a bit bored hanging out with her in the country so I've come to a house party at the country pile of an earl (pretty chuffed about this!). Thing is, one of the earl's daughter's is definitely into me! I don't really like her that much - she's not a patch on my fiancé - but they're a rich family and her father's an earl! Imagine having an earl as your FIL! WIBU to ditch my sweet innocent fiancé and ruin her life in order to marry this women I don't much like but who would impress my friends?

KittyHawke80 · 20/07/2018 16:12

I am really enjoying ‘Good Girls’ after an uneven start. I absolutely would not mind a quick good on Rio, fwiw.

questionzzz · 20/07/2018 16:14

@iisum Argh I know this! I swear I do!!

here's a similar one from the MiL perspective- an actual character in the book!

My brilliant son has become engaged to -shock, horror- a farmer's widow down by our country pile in Cornwall. And she is older than him ! And, to add insult to injury, rumour has it that she was the mistress of my estranged husband! At least she is very good-looking.

I hear, after making all that fuss about wanting to marry this woman, my son isn't faithful to her after all. What do you expect, like father, like son. Again, though, he has taken up with a commoner. What is it with my son and the lower classes? Apparently his affair started soon after the death of their first child. A very appropriate way to grieve, I must say. Nothing consoles a dreadful bereavement one like illicit, adulterous sex, and lots of it.

Questionzzz

The wind eye!
Good to encounter another Westall fan...

questionzzz · 20/07/2018 16:22

@Poochster Yessssss! That book had such an influence on me- the way I feel about religion and supernatural. My father is very like Bertram, a completely scientistic man who fetishized academia and I was determined not be like him LOL although now I probably am.

Thinking back to it- what a mad book.

Poochster · 20/07/2018 16:33

Questionzzz

Don't want to derail the thread, but I wonder if you ever read Futuretrack 5? That one was the one that went with me through my teenage years and is one of my all time favourite books. I discovered a couple of years ago that he had been told it was unpublishable... So glad he took no notice!

questionzzz · 20/07/2018 16:39

No- I never came across Futuretrack 5? I will look out for it.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 20/07/2018 16:42

Poldark?

TV

I just got a job at an upmarket firm in New York

The office manager told me I should expect to give male staff sexual favours and made an appointment for me to go on The Pill

The doctor called me a slag

My boss is an alcoholic philanderer who I constantly have to cover for

WIBU to stay in this job in the hope that one day I'll be recognised for my talents?

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 20/07/2018 16:43

I NEED Beth and Rio to get it on in Good Girls!

questionzzz · 20/07/2018 16:43

@MrStark
Mad men?

Seasawride · 20/07/2018 17:13

Grin not really about mils was just pertinent in the op. And you know mumsnet loves mils! Disclaimer as a mil myself I cringe at the sometimes stupidity of other fellow mils.

So I was a very very very clever druggie but decided to try and be taken on by a law firm. I really liked the paralegal but she went out for milk around mid May and I havnt seen her since.

Thinking of contacting the FBI but my president says they can’t be trusted. Maybe putin?
