To tell you about Galaxy Ripples

HildaZelda · 19/07/2018 21:57

Grrr! Galaxy Ripples seemed to be one of few remaining chocolate bars that hadn't changed and been ruined. Until today. I bought one to have with a cuppa at lunchtime and what's happened? It's turned into some sort of disgusting waxy shit. It was like cheap cooking chocolate. I actually threw half of it in the bin. Obviously the palm oil has 'got it'.

RIP Galaxy Ripple Angry

@Slightlyjaded - I can just hear a whimpering Dawn French now sobbing "Don't tap it: Bin it".

Tartyflette · 19/07/2018 23:42

This is a good, chocolate-y milk chocolate. No palm oil, high cocoa content.

PhilomenaFogg · 19/07/2018 23:42

mrstarkGrin can't eat my freddo now just as well as need to lose a few poundettes think 'earwax earwax.....

PhilomenaFogg · 19/07/2018 23:44

I saw Dawn French buying choc digestives in Sainsburys once.

Stormy76 · 19/07/2018 23:46

Lindt ......delish

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 19/07/2018 23:47

Yes, Philomena - I am definitely going to do that when I'm tempted to buy any! I'm half-minded to find a blown-up close-up pic of some actual earwax and stick it on the fridge door. But that would most probably then just put me and the whole family off eating ANYTHING from the fridge (or within view of it)....

jigsawpiece · 20/07/2018 00:00

My port in this storm of crap chocolate has been Co-ops own Milk Chocolate with Toffee and Himalayan Salt. It is delish :-)

PhilomenaFogg · 20/07/2018 00:07

Yeah webuilt think of the money you'd save "packet of earwax anyone?"

kateandme · 20/07/2018 00:37

MaluCachu · 20/07/2018 00:50

They’re like fingers of brown lard..

Jonbb · 20/07/2018 00:58

We were driving through France a couple of years ago and randomly found a Lindt factory. I can highly recommend the Lindt factory shop!

LookAtThatCritter · 20/07/2018 00:59

I read the title and thought it was going to be someone telling us how the planet is ending ASAP because the galaxy was rippling Blush

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 20/07/2018 01:30

It's a fair assumption to make, Critter - why are so many chocolate bars and makers named after celestial objects? Mars (and Aldi's 'tribute' Titan), Galaxy, Milky Way, Star Bar. Apart from Curly Wurly, which is named in honour of part of a pig.

TrueWierdness · 20/07/2018 06:55

We have a lovely little independent chocolate shop in our town. Expensive but wonderful, palm oil free, chocolateyness.

I hope more independent chocolatiers see a gap in the market - people want quality!!!

hopingforhappiness · 20/07/2018 07:14

Re Nutella.
Costco's own choc hazelnut spread appears to be palm oil free. I will double check.
DC think it is nicer.

TheSerenDipitY · 20/07/2018 07:39

Cadbury didnt get away with the palm oil in NZ, they were forced to back down and not use it, they went from the number one trusted brand to barely even on this list,
a lot moved from Cadbury to Whitakers chocolate,
who wont ever use palm oil ( we would boycott as we did with Cadburys)
www.whitakerschocolates.com/chocolate-exports/
i would hope its the same over there as it is in NZ, i know my tongue doesnt get that greasy feeling like it does with cadburys and it doesnt have that harsh almost burning feeling in my throat like Cadburys either
They bring Nigella out do do their commercials in NZ

Tanith · 20/07/2018 09:16

Willie’s Cacoa is an Exeter-based company that does very good chocolate.
It’s expensive, but worth it as a very special treat.

I can’t touch the palm-oil stuff: it makes me ill.

FrogPie · 20/07/2018 09:44

Can confirm that all cadbury’s tastes awful and waxy, also a bit baby-vomit-y? Confused

Is the palm oil addition the reason why the roof of my mouth always stings/tingles if I eat chocolate? Am I allergic?

SilverySurfer · 20/07/2018 09:47

The only way these companies will make any changes is by boycotting all products containing palm oil - hit them where it hurts - in their profits. It's time consuming when shopping but worth it IMO.

You may think a loaf of white bread would be ok - nope - contains palm oil, as do supermarket made and other cornish pasties, cakes, doughnuts, pies, Tunnocks - both products, the list is endless. Lindt chocolate is palm free - Lindor truffles are not. Green & Blacks is thankfully palm free.

Iceland Supermarkets have banned palm oil in their own products which is great and I wish some of the others would follow their lead.

For those asking what's bad about it (apart from turning our favourite products into inedible crap) this may be of interest: saynotopalmoil.com/Whats_the_issue.php

3luckystars · 20/07/2018 11:33

It’s just so sad. I used to love chocolate so much and now it’s absolutely horrible. All of it.

Actually I still love chocolate, it’s just now unavailable. This new stuff that has taken over is something else and should have another name.

It’s just so sad. I would love a dairy milk or a galaxy or a chocolate orange but they don’t exist anymore.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 20/07/2018 11:46

I had a Green and Blacks this week though and I really didn't think it tasted the same

3luckystars · 20/07/2018 11:50

Ok so I have emailed Cadbury.

I asked them to just add my name to the pile of complaints. How can they ignore us all.

Badgerthebodger · 20/07/2018 11:53

Another chocoholic coming to mourn the total lack of decent chocolate now available. Palm oil is the most disgusting addition to chocolate, it makes it taste all slimy and weird. Aldi chocolate is lovely. It’s about the only one I can eat now. Someone got me a box of Milk Tray last Christmas and I swear this used to be one of my Favourite Things Ever but I had 2 then I binned the lot because they were so disgusting Sad

keepingbees · 20/07/2018 11:58

Oh no Sad

I couldn't finish a bag of Maltesers recently as they were absolutely vile. Cheap, waxy, tasteless.

Why are they doing this!?
