Help! I have one dd. My mil has lived with us since we have been married.

She is a very strong woman and overruled me on everything. She sends me to bed if I sneeze.

When dd was 2 dh pissed off capturing butterflies in Africa and I havnt heard off him for years. Bastard. So mil got friendly with a wierd lady next door. She has big hair coils round her ears, writes books and has lots of kids.

I am concerned she is also involved in modern slavery as she has a woman living with her called Anna who does everything.

Anyway mil and this wierd Jo woman have colluded to send dd to a boarding school.

Aibu to just want to move away with dd. Start again and have some fun? Grin

Guess the book and keep going. Grin

Hi, Max.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 18:57

I'm guessing Portnoy's Complaint because it's the only title I can remember.

Tanith · 19/07/2018 18:57

5Leafclover the film is one of my all time favourites and the book is fantastic. It was first published as the Ghosts, then retitled after the film. Diana Dors was so good as Mrs. Wickens!

margotsdevil · 19/07/2018 18:58

Does no one know about the mouse?!

MissLingoss · 19/07/2018 18:58

Oh, South Riding! Yes, should have got that, I remember the '70s adaptation.

LetticeFortescue · 19/07/2018 18:59

My brother is ill and I've been sent away to my aunt and uncle while he recuperates and it's really boring. They live in a flat in an old house and there's a really old lady in the flat below. She has a grandfather clock in the hall that I hear chiming every night. The weird thing is that I have heard it bong thirteen times in a row. Should I sneak down one night to watch it do this and see what the hands are pointing to when it happens? It is literally so boring here that is the most exciting thing to have happened.

Lancelottie · 19/07/2018 18:59

The mouse? Is that the Gruffalo one or have I lost the plot?

Tanith · 19/07/2018 19:00

Portnoys Complaint it is! Oh dear, poor Alex shamefully admitting his abuse of a cored apple was one of the funniest images I’ve ever read Grin

Tom’s Secret Garden?

questionzzz · 19/07/2018 19:01

After my poor DS was wrongfully imprisoned through the malicious accusations of jealous colleagues, my crazy "writer/poet" DiL has taken herself and the three children off to the countryside to some godforsaken cottage which doesn't even have electricity. She claims she can support herself and three growing children by writing children's poetry (which frankly, isn't even very good).

I hear my poor grandchildren are reduced to holding up posters begging for food at the passing trains and stealing coal while feckless DIL is taking in Russian refugees and spies! While refusing to let my starving grandchildren have BOTH jam and butter on their toast, saying they are too poor and it must be or the other!!

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 19/07/2018 19:02

Haha

The Railway Children

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 19:02

Tom's Midnight Garden and The Railway Children!

LetticeFortescue · 19/07/2018 19:03

Stark and Tanith yes

5LeafClover · 19/07/2018 19:03

My phone is too slow to scroll back properly, but from the second clue...the one about the head teacher is it to serve them all my days?

questionzzz · 19/07/2018 19:09

I also did Roth a couple pages back- but from a different perspective.

Speaking of books with "Tom" in the title...

My DiL is the embodiment of pure evil. She regularly beats my poor sickly grandson in the most appalling way. Thankfully WWII broke out, and he has been evacuated to the countryside to live with some kindly old churchwarden. Meanwhile, I hear DiL has become pregnant... and her not married... God help the poor mite which comes out that devil.

drudgewithagrudge · 19/07/2018 19:09

My DH is going through a mid life crisis. He has packed in his job and along with his brother and a couple of workmates has joined a rag tag band of other wife leavers and is wandering around the countryside.
Their leader is a right weirdo who probably has MH issues.

MIL and I have been left at home to hold the fort. I would LTB but he has already gone.

Recent update . MIL took to her bed with an unspecified fever. STBXH and his loony friends were in the area and their beloved leader to my amazement cured MIL.
I still don't like the way he calls STBXH Rocky.

MipMipMip · 19/07/2018 19:10

Well it's been a difficult time recently. The family had death after death and with so few of us left I finally persuaded the old people to move. Turns out there's a lot more of us left then I thought but the new lot are weird. All arguing over stupid things. Anyway, we found out that where they live was about to be destroyed so once again I had to take charge and find them somewhere new.

I did, despite my advisor no longer talking and my girlfriend (well she's a girl, not sure right now if she's a friend) going on about bloody frogs who never leave the place they're born. What did I do to deserve this?!

Scheheramard · 19/07/2018 19:18

questionzzz Goodnight mr Tom ?

milliemolliemou · 19/07/2018 19:19

I'm an orphan, staying with my grandmother. I see ghosts who lived in the house - even a pony. I go forward and backward in time and love it.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 19/07/2018 19:20

Water ship Down

questionzzz · 19/07/2018 19:21

Scheheramard- yes!

Millie- I feel I've read that- but at the same time I think there are lots of books with that kind of plot. Time travel was soooo popular at one point. Is it still?

EmilyDickinson · 19/07/2018 19:24

Drudge The New Testament.
