Help! I have one dd. My mil has lived with us since we have been married.

She is a very strong woman and overruled me on everything. She sends me to bed if I sneeze.

When dd was 2 dh pissed off capturing butterflies in Africa and I havnt heard off him for years. Bastard. So mil got friendly with a wierd lady next door. She has big hair coils round her ears, writes books and has lots of kids.

I am concerned she is also involved in modern slavery as she has a woman living with her called Anna who does everything.

Anyway mil and this wierd Jo woman have colluded to send dd to a boarding school.

Aibu to just want to move away with dd. Start again and have some fun? Grin

Guess the book and keep going. Grin

DD1 has dropped out of uni, is living on the streets and won't come home. She won't tell us what has happened but we drive by every Saturday to keep an eye on her and she looks so sad. Will she ever come home?

questionzzz · 19/07/2018 18:41

Wantto: the opening chapters of Rebecca?

5LeafClover · 19/07/2018 18:41

Tanith, have never read the Ghosts but recognise the name from the film credit. Just love that film....Diana Dors is brilliant in it.

I've not led a good life, I know that. My DP is violent but I'm still nuts about him and what with that and the lack of opportunities for people like me I don't see what other life I could have. Now, though, he's risking a kid's life and I can't stand by and see that happen. I've got to get the kid away. Wish me luck!

TokenBritPoshOfCourse · 19/07/2018 18:45

Oliver Twist!

Lancelottie · 19/07/2018 18:46

Gaspode - Nancy from Oliver?

LetticeFortescue · 19/07/2018 18:46

Ooh Gasp are you Nancy and is the boy Oliver Twist?

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 19/07/2018 18:48

My brother died mysteriously years ago and I have decided to investigate his death. Join me for 1,000 plus pages of introspection whilst I don't find out because I'm 12 and nor do you

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 18:48

Yes - made myself sad writing that!

Nobody has got the one about the headteacher, unless I've missed it. Clue: 20th century novel, made into a film in the 1930s and at least two TV big budget dramatisations, one early 70s, one early 2010s. The early 70s one was a huge influence on me at an impressionable age.

SEX!!! My God! I hit my 13th birthday and...
...SEX!!!

No, of course I haven’t had any yet ( SEX!!! )!
I just can’t stop thinking about it. And I’m imagining the most bizarre objects are... ( SEX!!! )

Oh God! It’s my mother. I know she suspects me. Oddly, she must be the only female in the universe that stops me dead from thinking about SEX!!!

I lie. I even told her I have an upset stomach as an excuse for spending so long locked in the toilet (where the laundry basket and my sister’s bra are) and she wants to see for herself. I’m going to be so embarrassed when she finally catches me out but I just can’t stop thinking about SEX!!!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 18:49

More to be baffled by!

Wanttomakemincepies · 19/07/2018 18:49

@questionzzz yes

LetticeFortescue · 19/07/2018 18:50

Gasp - South Riding? Didn't spot the earlier ref but got it from your description just now. Loved the 1970's version - was allowed to stay up till 10 to watch it Smile

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 18:51

questionzz and Tanith, I've never read any Philip Roth, but is he the author of one or both of yours?

TokenBritPoshOfCourse · 19/07/2018 18:52

Tanith is it Adrian Mole?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 18:52

Yes! That's the one. I enjoyed the more recent version, but it wasn't a patch on the one with Dorothy Tutin and Nigel Davenport. The book is wonderful and I've re-read it many times.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 19/07/2018 18:52

My Mum doesn't love me and I think she thinks I'm evil

The only time she was nice to me was when I was sick and she read me Robin Hood.

If she thinks I'm bad, well I'll show her

She'll regret giving me her weird surname one day.

ParisNext · 19/07/2018 18:53

Tabitha-is it Adrian Mole?

MipMipMip · 19/07/2018 18:53

Well done Cable! Didn't think anyone would get that.

Hi there Supermouse?

I had a pretty crap childhood but I'm putting it all behind me. In fact I've fallen for a bloke in my new job. He's sad, has a bit of a past, but he's lovely. The new job is strange, although I love it. Commonly referred to as the most dangerous job in the world. Even more dangerous with that Bitch round here, I'm sure she's got it in for me. It's hard work - the training was long and you had to make the grades each week or you got kicked out, no appeal. And I had to learn sidesaddle on an evil devil horse. But it's worth it.

Have a big assignment coming up, one that will take months. Would be better if I could have chosen my partner but never mind. But early for my taste, and too many reptiles involved, but it will be fascinating. And it should make a payday for this place and keep the (excellent) kitchen going. Tight, time for tea!

MissLingoss · 19/07/2018 18:53

I ought to know it. Shall probably kick myself when it's revealed, if I can't think of it.

ParisNext · 19/07/2018 18:53

Sorry Autocorrected...Tanith not Tabitha!

Tanith · 19/07/2018 18:54

Philip Roth for the latest - anyone remember the title? Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 18:54

The 1000+ book - another one I haven't read - is it About a Boy?

MipMipMip · 19/07/2018 18:54

Right*

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 19/07/2018 18:55

Nope not About A Boy, another of the authors books has been mentioned though
