Help! I have one dd. My mil has lived with us since we have been married.

She is a very strong woman and overruled me on everything. She sends me to bed if I sneeze.

When dd was 2 dh pissed off capturing butterflies in Africa and I havnt heard off him for years. Bastard. So mil got friendly with a wierd lady next door. She has big hair coils round her ears, writes books and has lots of kids.

I am concerned she is also involved in modern slavery as she has a woman living with her called Anna who does everything.

Anyway mil and this wierd Jo woman have colluded to send dd to a boarding school.

Aibu to just want to move away with dd. Start again and have some fun? Grin

Guess the book and keep going. Grin

Just catching up, this thread has really rocketed!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 10:57

Death on the Nile! (iismum)

BevBrook · 19/07/2018 10:57

yes, Morvern Callar. You lot are good!

MissLingoss · 19/07/2018 10:59

this thread has really rocketed!

Donkeys, it's been distracting me dreadfully from what I should be doing!

iismum · 19/07/2018 11:00

All I've done so far today at work is catch up on the thread (and get annoyed when I got ones and was way too late to comment!) and then think up some of my own. Every time I go to do something else I find myself checking back to see if there's been new ones ... Agh!

BevBrook · 19/07/2018 11:01

The Lighthouse one is Moominpapa at Sea, I believe.

it's been distracting me dreadfully from what I should be doing! Me too!

glamorousgrandmother · 19/07/2018 11:02

Years ago, during a period of political upheaval, I had an affair with a soldier. We couldn't go public because he wasn't really on our side and then he had to go away. My fiancé (who I'd gone off anyway) died and I adopted an abandoned baby. Now, years later, when I have got to an age where I shouldn't be thinking about that sort of thing anymore my old love has turned up. What should I do?

[If you've only seen the film you won't get it because the film is completely different and WRONG.]

iismum · 19/07/2018 11:03

Bev - yes! Moominpapa at Sea. Wasn't sure if that's was going to be quite hard to get. Obviously not!

Me too!

BevBrook · 19/07/2018 11:03

Captain Corelli's Mandolin! I haven't seen the film. although my mum and dad were holidaying in Kefalonia while it was being filmed.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 11:04

Gosh, you have to be fast here.

OK, here's another one.

I've been away from home for work reasons for a long time. I'm very keen to get back and see my DW and DS, who was just a baby when I left. I'm hopeful my DDad and DDog will still be alive too. I'm having a real mare getting back though! I have support from a major goddess, but unfortunately her uncle hates me because I blinded his son. Well, how was I to know he really was the son of a god? Could have happened to anyone.

Anyway, long story short, after any number of problems, I'm now stuck on an island where a minor goddess is keeping me as her toyboy. WIBU to beg the king of the gods to get me out of here? Once I'm home I know it will all be plain sailing.

glamorousgrandmother · 19/07/2018 11:06

Captain Corelli's Mandolin! I haven't seen the film.
You would probably enjoy it if you hadn't read the book but I thought it missed the whole point.

glamorousgrandmother · 19/07/2018 11:07

The Odyssey.

iismum · 19/07/2018 11:07

I've got three DCs - DD was sadly killed a few years ago, DS1 is quite a lot older than the other two and is really dependable and always there for me. DS2 is pretty wild and has been living in exile for years because he was accused of treason (he didn't do it, he was set up). DS2 is amazing - brilliantly clever, funny, etc. - can achieve pretty much anything really - although he's a bit unstable and moody. AIBU to make it clear that DS2 is my favourite even though DS1 does his best and would actually be considered quite brilliant himself if he wasn't totally outshone by DS2?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 19/07/2018 11:08

Jack Reacher, PaintedHorizons.

EmilyDickinson · 19/07/2018 11:11

Update on my jealous OH.

Things have gone from bad to worse. My poor little DS has died and I am so scared of my OH that I've got my friend to pretend I've died in childbirth. Baby DD is unbelievably cute, surely OH will come to his senses when he sees her? Surely things can't get any worse?

poorchurchmouse · 19/07/2018 11:12

Iismum, Game of Kings / Lymond Chronicles?

iismum · 19/07/2018 11:13

poor - yes! I thought that would take a bit longer. People are good at this ... though no one's got Emily's yet.

poorchurchmouse · 19/07/2018 11:14

@Emily, The Winter’s Tale.

And someone upthread had Crocodile on the Sandbank (the Egyptologists) - love those books!

glamorousgrandmother · 19/07/2018 11:14

I have set up a detective agency helped by my very clever but bossy friend. I only have a clapped out van for transport but I've got my eye on a rather handy mechanic nearby.

poorchurchmouse · 19/07/2018 11:18

No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency!

iismum · 19/07/2018 11:20

Things have been really exciting but stressful recently because of the uprising of Bonnie Prince Charlie, our glorious leader! I've been really involved in this which has kept me very busy, but the thing is I've developed this really intense relationship with this English soldier I keep bumping into. He's the enemy and stands for everything I hate but somehow I can't help having really strong feelings for him (in a totally manly way of course - I've got a random fiancé somewhere - definitely nothing homoerotic going on here ...). I'm not sure how to reconcile my passion for my country and the Prince with my passion strong admiration for this English solider.

glamorousgrandmother · 19/07/2018 11:24

Yes poor

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 19/07/2018 11:24

I'm going to have to re-read the thread so as not to duplicate but:

I am an alcoholic and I sold my wife and baby to a sailor when I was drunk.

Guilty, but unencumbered, I then managed to make something of myself and met a woman I really like

I don't know if my wife is alive or dead and I kind of hope she is dead so I can marry my GF

She's not going to turn up after all these years is she?

iismum · 19/07/2018 11:26

MrStark - is that Mayor of Casterbridge?
