Help! I have one dd. My mil has lived with us since we have been married.

She is a very strong woman and overruled me on everything. She sends me to bed if I sneeze.

When dd was 2 dh pissed off capturing butterflies in Africa and I havnt heard off him for years. Bastard. So mil got friendly with a wierd lady next door. She has big hair coils round her ears, writes books and has lots of kids.

I am concerned she is also involved in modern slavery as she has a woman living with her called Anna who does everything.

Anyway mil and this wierd Jo woman have colluded to send dd to a boarding school.

Aibu to just want to move away with dd. Start again and have some fun? Grin

Guess the book and keep going. Grin

Grin I've got a bit of advice for you, Lettice, don't listen to any snakes.

DrowsyDragon · 19/07/2018 08:10

Newbie Spartacus - wolf hall?

Tessliketrees · 19/07/2018 08:15

Me and DH moved back to his hometown to look after MIL who had cancer. She now passed away and my DH has started an affair with one of his students (he teaches at the local college).

WIBU to fake my own death and frame him for murder?

PaintedHorizons · 19/07/2018 08:15

Just need to rant really. I have just broken up with DP. It was never going to work I knew that. He's ex-Military, was a military kid and cannot seem to settle anwhere. He is basically bad news as a DP but I have never met anyone like him. He's super clever, so tall, ( I'm tall and he's one of the few men I can wear my heels with), strong, decent, - gorgeous!

I left him in the hotel and now I'm sitting in my smart apartment on my own and I know that he'll have got on a bus somewhere and will be chasing bad guys, getting into fights, (which he always wins - somehow), and "rescuing people".

I know it was the right decision but AIBU to feel sad? I don't think anyone else will ever measure up.

LetticeFortescue · 19/07/2018 08:17

Here's one for you Gaspode - I am pregnant with my second child, DH's first, and MIL has recently come to stay. She is awful, so overbearing and DH seems to be siding with her. They recently blamed me for burning the dinner but I'm sure I didn't - I can't help thinking that she turned up the oven temp deliberately - but DH won't hear a word against her. My friend recently called round and afterwards MIL said some nasty stuff about her and DH agreed. They've also suggested it would be good for DS1 to go to boarding school (he's 5) and I am now paranoid that they are plotting to send him behind my back. Wibu to ask mil to leave?

LetticeFortescue · 19/07/2018 08:19

Tess no idea but I'm intrigued to find out Smile

Tessliketrees · 19/07/2018 08:20

I can't get any of these even though it turns out I have read most of them! Even the Bible stumped me =(

LetticeFortescue · 19/07/2018 08:20

Painted Anna Karenina or a superhero?

ThomasNightingale · 19/07/2018 08:24

I’m a bit stuck for ideas because you lot seem to have gone through literally every book I’ve ever read except the ones which are more about astrophysics than personal relationships. Loved Importance of Being Earnest as a psychological thriller.

So this is one that’s been done already but not from this character’s perspective.

My best friend is recently engaged, which is nice for her of course, because she’s a dear girl, very clever and hard working, but tbh a teeny bit surprising that she’s engaged before me, because I’m so much more beautiful, wealthy and popular. How could I be left on the shelf with no proposals at all at nearly twenty? So I must admit I was just a little bit smug when I wrote to her that I’d been proposed to by three men in the same morning! All three most eligible matches, handsome and wealthy, but naturally I chose the suitor who was also the heir to a title. All going swimmingly until I went on holiday and met a mysterious and handsome foreign gentleman out walking on a cliff top. OMG I really think that this is the real thing? WIBU to ditch wealthy titled fiancé and run away with sexy stranger. He does have a title and castle as well by the way: I’m not completely mad.

Tess is Gone Girl.

Neither.

I am in the US - and my ex - we weren't together long - is just an ordinary guy. He's probably in some small town somewhere spending the night in a motel, (where they'll be suspicious of him as he never has luggage). He'll have seen something or someone that sparks his interest and he'll be off. It'll involve drugs or guns or criminals of some sort.

I heard on the grapevine from a friend of a friend that this time he is trying to get a ring that he found back to the owner...

Seasawride · 19/07/2018 08:36

Did anyone get Rapunzel a while back.

Also Lettuce that sounds like the Archers - Helen.

PaintedHorizons · 19/07/2018 08:51

Advice please. (Maybe I should post this in Employment)

I work in a prestigious New England college (History Dept). One of our professors runs Classics classes which is fine but I am concerned that things are not quite right. He has a select group of six students whos sit round in his room discussing Greek over cups of tea - and from what I can gather it all gets a bit too intense. (In fact one of the students has recently gone missing and whilst it may have nothing to do with this I can't help worrying that there is a connection).

Maybe once the snow has melted things will look better - I think this cold is geeting me down.

ThomasNightingale · 19/07/2018 08:52

And mortificado is Howl’s Moving Castle. God I love that book.

glamorousgrandmother · 19/07/2018 09:25

I'm a woman trying to succeed in a man's world. I turned down an offer of marriage from someone I really like because he is a social inferior and it wouldn't look good. I sent a jokey Valentine to a neighbour but he took it too seriously and went all stalkery. I met and married a handsome ex-soldier but he turned out to be a bit of a jack the lad with an exDP who had his baby and died in unfortunate circumstances. I sometimes wish I'd stuck with the first one.

BevBrook · 19/07/2018 09:26

My kids were being ungrateful brats so I decided to take them to France and show them the war graves. You don’t have it so bad do you kids? Unfortunately on the way there I developed sepsis and now I’m stuck in a hospital run by nuns while my five children fend for themselves at the hotel. It’s OK though, I left them in charge of a personable Englishman I had only just met, who definitely is not dodgy in any way at all. I’m sure they will all be fine.

BevBrook · 19/07/2018 09:27
