Help! I have one dd. My mil has lived with us since we have been married.

She is a very strong woman and overruled me on everything. She sends me to bed if I sneeze.

When dd was 2 dh pissed off capturing butterflies in Africa and I havnt heard off him for years. Bastard. So mil got friendly with a wierd lady next door. She has big hair coils round her ears, writes books and has lots of kids.

I am concerned she is also involved in modern slavery as she has a woman living with her called Anna who does everything.

Anyway mil and this wierd Jo woman have colluded to send dd to a boarding school.

Aibu to just want to move away with dd. Start again and have some fun? Grin

Guess the book and keep going. Grin

Lamb to the Slaughter - Roald Dahl

Littlebillie Rachel's Holiday?

NewbieSpartacus · 19/07/2018 03:41

I'm a kind of accountant but actually just super clever and talented at business because I've learned how to work with people. My dad was a violent arsehole lowlife but I rose through the ranks to become one of the King's most trusted advisors. I was happily married until the plague took my wife and my children.. I later found love with my wife's sister though. The King is a volatile toddler so I have my hands full, I don't want to lose my head.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 06:19

Wolf Hall! Hadn't thought before about the similarities between Henry VIII and Trump.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 06:36

Questionzz, My cousin Rachel?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 06:38

Sister, I feel I should know yours but I can't get it.

ScreamingValenta · 19/07/2018 06:56

Gaspode The Sea, The Sea is right.

ScreamingValenta · 19/07/2018 07:02

I agree with Tanith about reading Antonia Forest in order if you can. The first one, Autumn Term, is easy to get hold of; the others might be less so.

ToffeePennie · 19/07/2018 07:11

I’ve come to visit a very clever writer and be his muse, but he started to ignore me in favour of an older lady who was invited here by his son.
Anyway, his son decided to lure me into the garden and proposed, which was a bit unexpected! Which was totally unexpected and bizzare. His mum is this totally crazy actress and the whole family are obsessed with where things are in Paris.
Wibu just to leave them all to it and escape off in another guests’ fancy motor car??

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 07:22

Toffee, I don't know what this is but it sounds fun!

Amazed I got The Sea, The Sea. It must be nearly 40 years since I read it.

AIBU to get my DD to take a basket of groceries to my MIL for me? DD is still quite young but very sensible, and I'll tell her not to leave the path through the forest for any reason. There's been talk of wolves in the district but MIL insists on seeing DD regularly and I've got the washing to do today. And DD looks so cute in her little red cloak!

PaintedHorizons · 19/07/2018 07:31

The Paying Guest? Sister ? A while since I read it so a bit hazy

SunshineOutdoors · 19/07/2018 07:32

Mr men’s mr happy is a couple of pages back

LetticeFortescue · 19/07/2018 07:35

Gaspode - what's the worst that could happen? Red Riding Hood will be fine.

SisterMortificado · 19/07/2018 07:39

Yes, Painted, The Paying Guests!

Somehow I appear to have picked up a cleaning lady. I'm pretty sure she's cursed, and I really ought to do something about it, but she's teaching my apprentice, Michael, some manners, and she keeps my fire demon fed. If I un-cursed her, she'd probably go away and I'd be back to square one. Not everyone who's willing to clean this place.
Additionally, I'm a bit tied up at the moment- there's a war on, and I'm trying to avoid doing anything for the government! AIBU to just let it all carry on until it sorts itself out?

LetticeFortescue · 19/07/2018 07:42

My son is married and they have 3 DD. I say 3 but there was an awful tragedy a few years ago when a fourth DD drowned in a pond. DIL still blames the dead girl's twin for this, which is ridiculous, they were only 3 at the time! (Although I've always thought DD1 had more to do with it than she's letting on)
Anyway they never talk of my drowned granddaughter and her twin has grown up with no memory of her. Aibu to think they should talk about her, that she has a right to know about her?

PaintedHorizons · 19/07/2018 07:45

Lettice - Behind the Scenes at the Museum - by one of my favourite writers

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 07:45

Yes, that's what I thought, Lettice. Grin

Here's another one.

DP and I have recently become keen on boating. We have a lovely little craft painted the colour of our favourite soup and we always make sure we have plenty of cash and a good energy source for when we get tired. My DP is quite musical, so he takes his instrument too and sings to me. So romantic! Recently he actually proposed to me while we were at sea! Of course I said yes, but pointed out that we would need to return to land to get a ring. AIBU to think that we'd be better to go to Ernest Jones than follow DP's suggestion and sail on for a year and a day to the land where the Bong-tree grows? This is because he thinks we may be able to persuade the farm animal who lives there to give up his own ring. Apparently there's another farm animal who makes a living as a wedding celebrant and a good wedding caterer with a speciality in rhyming foods and speciality cutlery Hmm but I'm not convinced.

LetticeFortescue · 19/07/2018 07:47

My DIL is pregnant and has food cravings every night, so much so that she is forcing my poor son to go next door and steal food from their neighbour. Why they can't be more organised and go shopping in the day I don't know but I am really worried that when the neighbour finds out she'll make life hell for them. By all accounts she's a bit of an old witch and not the forgiving type.

VanillaSugar · 19/07/2018 07:47

The owl and the pussy cat!

PaintedHorizons · 19/07/2018 07:49

Gasp0de - lovely!! The Owl and the Pussycat. Used to read that all the time to my kids when they were young - a real favourite.

LetticeFortescue · 19/07/2018 07:51

Gaspode too many red flags for me, and frankly as an owl and a pussycat can you ever be compatible?
Painted, yes, my favourite writer and novel

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 07:54

Yes!

Last one for me for a while.

AIBU to be concerned about what my DIL's doing while my DS is at work? DGD has let a few things slip in recent weeks and I'm worried. Apparently a dangerous wild beast was let into the house and ate all the food and drank all the water in the tap. Now, this may just be the overactive imagination of a young child, but it does seem to be true that my DS came back from a hard day at the office and found no food in the house at all, so had to take them all out to a cafe. Just not good enough. And DGD keeps asking to buy a tin of tiger food when we go to the supermarket!

PaintedHorizons · 19/07/2018 07:58

Gasp0de - another favourite. The Tiger Who Came to Tea.

(in case he came back..... But he never did!!)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 08:00

Yes, my son's favourite when he was tiny. I love Judith Kerr!

LetticeFortescue · 19/07/2018 08:00

I've never met my MIL, it's like she never existed, and even DP has no memory of her. But I do have a FIL problem. We're living in his property and because we don't work we never go out, but FIL is really particular about what we can and can't do in his garden. For example he's got an apple tree with the most gorgeous fruit on it but he has absolutely forbidden us to eat any of it. I'm so tempted and I think DP is too. Would FIL notice if we ate just one between us, and even if he did, what is the worst he could do?
