Help! I have one dd. My mil has lived with us since we have been married.

She is a very strong woman and overruled me on everything. She sends me to bed if I sneeze.

When dd was 2 dh pissed off capturing butterflies in Africa and I havnt heard off him for years. Bastard. So mil got friendly with a wierd lady next door. She has big hair coils round her ears, writes books and has lots of kids.

I am concerned she is also involved in modern slavery as she has a woman living with her called Anna who does everything.

Anyway mil and this wierd Jo woman have colluded to send dd to a boarding school.

Aibu to just want to move away with dd. Start again and have some fun? Grin

Guess the book and keep going. Grin

Drowsy That's right Smile

Still stumped by MissLingoss's last one. It's 'on the tip of my tongue' = gah!

DrowsyDragon · 18/07/2018 21:05

I feel like a lifetime of bookworming is finally paying off

Seasawride · 18/07/2018 21:12

I am working for a young man about town. He’s not very bright but he’s a good egg.

I am slightly peeved because he can home last night very wet abd drunk and I now have to sort his suit out!

He’s asleep and murmuring about glow in the dark rabbits and maybe bingo or pongo or a gussy. It’s impossible to tell.

He has 2 aunts one a jolly good egg and the other a man eating tiger.

Who am I?

Jeeves and Wooster. Aw, Bertie.

MissLingoss · 18/07/2018 21:14

Jeeves?

I'll leave mine a bit before giving any more clues, in case anyone else gets it.

BevBrook · 18/07/2018 21:15

Well, you are Jeeves. But I have a soft spot for Bertie.

VanillaSugar · 18/07/2018 21:25

My DS keeps dating the most awful girl who swears, drinks too much and got sacked from her job for sleeping with her boss. Why can't he marry a nice girl rather than one who turns up to my 40th wedding anniversary party looking like a hooker.

ScreamingValenta · 18/07/2018 21:27

I decided to retire from public life and came to live in a rather damp and tumbledown house by the sea. It's really very refreshing, although the stock in the local shop leaves something to be desired. But something startling has occurred - I have found out that my first love also lives here - I haven't seen her since I was a young man, but I still love her as much as I ever did, even though she's an old woman now.

She's married and I'm sure her husband is no good for her - they live in a bungalow, and keep themselves to themselves. They have their evening meal very early and have refused all my invitations.

If I can't persuade her to leave him, WIBU just to kidnap her?

DrowsyDragon · 18/07/2018 21:34

Vanilla - Bridget Jones diary?

Tanith · 18/07/2018 21:37

I’m getting very fed up with my husband.
He’s a doctor and, I’ll admit, he and his friend helped me some years ago when I mysteriously came into a fortune.

I lost it very quickly through no fault of my own and my husband swore it made no difference to him. However, he keeps disappearing off with his friend for periods at a time on what he calls his “Adventures”! 🙄

AIBU to think it’s about time he remembered he’s a grown man with responsibilities?

ScreamingValenta · 18/07/2018 21:42

Tanith Are you Mrs Mary Watson in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (fortune gaining and losing having occurred in The Sign of Four)?

glamorousgrandmother · 18/07/2018 21:48

I came from a very poor background but have always tried to better myself through education. My ambitions, however, have always been thwarted by the women in my life - I should have just kept myself to myself.

Tanith · 18/07/2018 21:58

I am indeed, Valenta! I’m also getting identity issues here! Grin

BevBrook · 18/07/2018 22:03

Are you Jude the Obscure glamorousgrandmother?

Seasawride · 18/07/2018 22:04

Bev Grin

Yes I am BevBrook.

Urbanbeetler · 18/07/2018 22:10

I am the mother in law of a great painter and pretty well run the house for him. We have a sneaky young maidservant whom he seem to have a liking for - she seems to have forgotten her place. Unfortunately, he is the master of the house so when he says he wants her and only her to clean his studio, and then even starts using her as a painters model, there’s very little I can actually do about it.

The Sea, the Sea?

I've lost my DD and DH and they try to tell me they are dead. I don't believe them.

I am sick of wearing red and having a itchy wimple. BTW AIBU to think that the big C smells of mothballs

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 18/07/2018 22:30

Peters Room sounds brilliant! We need an official list of all these books.

LetticeFortescue · 18/07/2018 22:31

My 3 kids went to stay with their nanny/my MIL for a few days at the beginning of the summer hols. She lives in a rural area with lots of outdoor space and a stream with a bridge running along the edge of the garden.
Turns out they were left to play outside completely unattended by MIL and kept running across the bridge till DC1 fell in. Luckily he got out and none of them drowned but aibu to say no more visits until MIL agrees to supervise them properly.
Have NC for this thread but I am not a troll.

LetticeFortescue · 18/07/2018 22:32

little the handmaids tale?

littlebillie · 18/07/2018 22:37

Yep I read it along with brave new world and 1984. Dystopian teenage years

MissLingoss · 18/07/2018 22:40

Peters Room sounds brilliant

MrStark, I don't know how easy Antonia Forest is to get hold of these days, but ideally you should read them all in order, to follow the character development. (And then join the queue of people wanting to slap Ginty.)

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 18/07/2018 22:42

When I was a teenager this girl I met on holiday seemed to have the perfect life. I hated her. I had my reasons.

Years later, I see her, a young mum, harried, I know her straight away, she does not know me.

I have the enviable life now.

AIBU to ruin hers anyway?
