Help! I have one dd. My mil has lived with us since we have been married.

She is a very strong woman and overruled me on everything. She sends me to bed if I sneeze.

When dd was 2 dh pissed off capturing butterflies in Africa and I havnt heard off him for years. Bastard. So mil got friendly with a wierd lady next door. She has big hair coils round her ears, writes books and has lots of kids.

I am concerned she is also involved in modern slavery as she has a woman living with her called Anna who does everything.

Anyway mil and this wierd Jo woman have colluded to send dd to a boarding school.

Aibu to just want to move away with dd. Start again and have some fun? Grin

Guess the book and keep going. Grin

Like the previous poster, I am also on an island - but I made a concerted effort to get here, along with two friends I met while travelling. It's a secret paradise of likeminded young travellers. Everything would be great, but I'm increasingly haunted by the guy who gave me directions to the island - and then gruesomely killed himself. I also have an uneasy feeling about our unofficial leader - I'm worried about the lengths she'll go to to protect our secret community, especially as I let its whereabouts slip to two Americans I got stoned with before we left. But, for now I'll smoke some grass and occupy myself with Tetris on my friend's gameboy.

Dottierichardson · 18/07/2018 20:42

Screaming is that Alex Garland's 'The Beach'?

ScreamingValenta · 18/07/2018 20:43

It certainly is!

keyboardjellyfish · 18/07/2018 20:47

Some relatives of mine died and left three fairly odd children behind. They lived with me at first but I was deemed 'not suitable', and now they have been moved from place to place in order to be 'safe' away from me! WIBU to just kidnap them? They were very useful when they lived with me..... and they do have an enormous fortune.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/07/2018 20:49

Is that Lemony Snicket, keyboardjellyfish?

Absolutely stumped by MissLingoss's latest.

DrowsyDragon · 18/07/2018 20:49

Series of unfortunate events

keyboardjellyfish · 18/07/2018 20:50

Yes!

DrowsyDragon · 18/07/2018 20:50

Miss Lingoss does the best ones. Again it’s vaguely familiar but...

LanguageAsAFlower · 18/07/2018 20:52

My MIL to be is a rather cold woman. Her and her husband are clearly newish money. I've been playing away a bit with a nice poor feisty bit on the side, whilst DW to be thinks I'm working. DW to be is nice enough, a bit excitable and rude to shop assistants. BIL to be is an alcoholic and when squiffy doesn't know how to take no for an answer.

MissLingoss · 18/07/2018 20:52

It's a very popular author, now deceased, Gasp0de.

DrowsyDragon · 18/07/2018 20:53

I’ve been working as a governess with a wealthy family but that children are awful! The oldest son likes torturing animals and the mother criticises me all the time. I moved to a new position but here the girls are equally selfish and I think one is about to make a bad marriage. WIBU to just run off with the lovely young curate?

Dottierichardson · 18/07/2018 20:55

Drowsy is that 'Agnes Grey'?

Seasawride · 18/07/2018 20:55

dottie

DAmn! Yep it is. Was hoping to keep people guessing with that one.

Dottierichardson · 18/07/2018 20:57

Drowsy it's a great book don't know why it's not as popular as the other Bronte novels.

ScreamingValenta · 18/07/2018 20:59

I'm having a wonderful time! A family friend, Polly, invited me to join her on a tour of Europe to help look after her young daughter, who is rather frail. We have recently arrived in Nice and, guess what? My cousins are staying in the same hotel. They didn't want to know me at first, but then Polly's brother Ned turned up and it's rather clear my cousin is taken with him, so they have been all over us since then.

It doesn't surprise me that Ned likes her too, as she's very pretty and fashionably dressed. I can't help thinking it's sad, though, that her tour of Europe has been all about buying things - the history, art and culture has passed her by unnoticed.

Ned is very handsome, but I'm far more interested at present in soaking up every moment of my European tour. Something drastic would have to happen for us to notice each other as anything more than friendly acquaintances.

MissLingoss · 18/07/2018 20:59

DNiece's unconventional upbringing was mostly in Spain, if that helps. I think she'd been to Vienna, too.

DrowsyDragon · 18/07/2018 21:00

Anne gets neglected. Agnes Grey and Tenant if wildfell Hall are both brilliant. - and now I can’t do tenant as one

DrowsyDragon · 18/07/2018 21:00

OOH is it Wilkie Collins? Women in white?

DrowsyDragon · 18/07/2018 21:01

What Katie did next

glamorousgrandmother · 18/07/2018 21:02

*LanguageAsAFLower An Inspector calls

LanguageAsAFlower · 18/07/2018 21:02

@glamorousgrandmother
Yes

Seasawride · 18/07/2018 21:03

Some of you are so bloody sharp! I can’t get them unless they are very obvious but once someone else names it it’s bloody obvious Grin

Language, An Inspector Calls?

Still baffled, MissLingoss!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/07/2018 21:03

Pipped to the post!
