Help! I have one dd. My mil has lived with us since we have been married.

She is a very strong woman and overruled me on everything. She sends me to bed if I sneeze.

When dd was 2 dh pissed off capturing butterflies in Africa and I havnt heard off him for years. Bastard. So mil got friendly with a wierd lady next door. She has big hair coils round her ears, writes books and has lots of kids.

I am concerned she is also involved in modern slavery as she has a woman living with her called Anna who does everything.

Anyway mil and this wierd Jo woman have colluded to send dd to a boarding school.

Aibu to just want to move away with dd. Start again and have some fun? Grin

Guess the book and keep going. Grin

For reasons I don't want to go into the mother of my son's three DC has sole custody. Not only does she continue to work but she chooses to work the night shift only. I have been told by the oldest child, a very sensible girl, that she and the others stay up all night waiting for their mother to come home (the youngest, a boy, gets especially upset and then the oldest has to comfort him). When she finally gets back she dismisses their fears by simply saying that they know she'll always come back, and she has no choice if she is to put food in their mouths. Wibu to say to DIL that if she must work that she must at least arrange suitable child care?

Tanith · 18/07/2018 22:42

Peter’s Room was described as one of the best children’s books ever written.

Antonia Forest really should be much better known than she is.

VanillaSugar · 18/07/2018 22:43

Yup, Bridget Jones.

My DD has just graduated and has found herself a rich young boyfriend. But when I phone her up he answers and says "she can't come to the phone right now. She's a bit tied up."

Tanith · 18/07/2018 22:44

Owl Babies Lettice?

littlebillie · 18/07/2018 22:45

I am so lucky my DD and DM are shouting me a few weeks at the spa with the celebrities. I don't mean your C/D celebs like soaps I mean rich stars land only cool people.

Don't believe my ex, my ex BFF or my sister they are all lying I am not drinking too much or trying to kill myself.

Okay it's not a Spa it's rehab

LetticeFortescue · 18/07/2018 22:46

Tanith yes
Vanilla 50 shades? Grin

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 18/07/2018 22:50

50 Shades Vanilla.

My mother hanged when I was a baby and I've always lived with foster carers who love me as their own. We're all petty criminals and we all do our part, but we're the salt of the earth really
The missus knows a posh geezer, he came with a job offer and the job was simple, con a little posh girl and pretend to be her maid.

I feel guilty now as I have developed unnatural feelings for the girl in question

LetticeFortescue · 18/07/2018 22:52

MrStark both of yours sound intriguing. Is the second a Sarah Waters novel?

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 18/07/2018 22:55

I recently gave birth and DHs aunt STORMED around to our house demanding that we name our new DD after her

When we gently explained it was a DS

off she STORMED again out of the house in a FURY

AIBU to tell DH we will be going NC with this CF?

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 18/07/2018 22:55

Yes Lettice!

The second is Fingersmith

Scrambled, yes! I knew someone would get it. (Heyer's work offers lots of situations for threads like this.)

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 18/07/2018 23:08

Yes!

I love doing these

I was a poor, lower class soldier when I met the love of my life. I knew she wouldn't be able to marry me.

And so I became a self made millionaire so I could be worthy but by that time she'd married someone else

AIBU to stalk her, befriend her friends and family, buy the house opposite and attempt to break up her marriage, because we were always meant to be?

Seasawride · 18/07/2018 23:26

Shit I know this!!! I do! Confused thought immediately far from the madding crowd but don’t think so.

I’m a chap in my forties. While I’m a bit rotund in build my friends know me as a cheerful chappie. I’ve always got a smile on my face. And I live in a lovely part of the world.

So one day I went exploring in the woods and found a little door in a tree. I opened it and it led to a staircase that went downstairs. And I then found a room with the bloke in it. Well you could have knocked me down with a feather but this fella was like my long lost identical twin. If only he’d cracked his face. He couldn’t even tell me why he was so fed up. I don’t think it was depression or anything he just a negative hit.

So I got him to come and live with me, like you do and I have to say he was hard work. What a grumpy fucker. But eventually he did turn that frown upside down and we now spend our days laughing together like a pair of twin loons.

kierenthecommunity · 18/07/2018 23:35

*git not hit Grin

Flightywoman · 18/07/2018 23:35

I don't think anyone got Ifyou's one earlier - it's a Danielle Steel, The Promise!

Seasawride · 18/07/2018 23:38

I am French and apparently have no sense of honour?

I am at boarding school with a girl who has a hot temper.

My aunty is the French mistress and as thick as fuck but obviously that’s ok as she’s French (foreign)

I once threw myself off the balcony into a swimming pool to drench a posh bitch who dissed my auntie.

Disclaimer! Loved these books as a child! Grin

MiL has always been overbearing, though FiL has treated me kindly. When I got pregnant we moved to a cottage right next to them, which I didn't really want to do but DH persuaded me it was for the best.

MiL thinks she knows best for my baby - it's like he is another son to her, not my baby at all. I'm getting more depressed every day and often feel like I can't cope compared to how competent she is.

I'm starting to think about how I can get my baby back and get MiL to back off - for good.
