Just that really. I obviously don’t buy the magazines that must print all the insider gossip. From what I’ve seen of her I’ve liked, and felt some sympathy for her. Am I wrong?

however she herself said she cared for him, they had a good relationship and had been in contact right up until the wedding

I care for my dad, in fact for most of my life he was my utter hero, doesn't mean I can see him, for my own stability and mental health I indeed know I can't talk to him or see him. I was planning on seeing him literally days after the final straw that made me go NC with him. No one that knows the situation would ever encourage me to see him. Maybe that's what harry thinks and feels. He knows most.

I'm not even sure why the humanatarian work comes In to it

lightonthewater · 18/07/2018 09:53

I think to be trying to adjust to the RF with her awful father and half sister purging their spitefulness and greed in the press every day must be beyond appalling.

CambridgeAnaglypta · 18/07/2018 10:00

wellBeehivedWoman

Kate has really begun to look like the wife of a King and mother of the King.

Yes because god forbid we ever consider her as anything other than a wife and mother to Important Men

Well she isn't in line to the throne so yes she is a wife and mother - try another post to bring your feminism bs.

SparkleSoiree · 18/07/2018 10:00

I like her. She seems confident, happy and tries to create positive change in the world in her own way. What's not to like?

mydogisthebest · 18/07/2018 10:05

I really like her. I think she is a breath of fresh air for the Royal Family.

I do agree though that on here and in newspaper comments she is usually ripped apart.

nearlyfiftyjeez · 18/07/2018 10:09

I don’t like her behaviour very much as she seems to be acting all of the time, she does not seem remotely genuine. Everything looks false and lacking sincerity. I don’t know who she is, so not liking her is too strong, but I don’t know what she stands for beyond a few lily liveried celebrity ‘causes’ it all seems fake.
I would like to see the real Meghan but I very much doubt she will share that with anyone least of all Harry.

wellBeehivedWoman · 18/07/2018 10:15

Right, so suggesting that woman should be viewed as more than just a wife ot mother is 'feminism bs' now, is it?

That post was objectionable because it suggests that Kate's only value is in looking the part in relation to her husband and son.

She's actually valuable for a lot of reasons; because she's very good at the diplomatic functions of her job, she handles her role as a figurehead for the nation well, she advocates effectively for charities, and she attends many functions which require some form of state presence. I'm not a particular fan of monarchy as an institution but I recognise that she does a good job and it's not simply because she has nice hair and beautiful clothes.

@NaughtToThreeSadOnions the day she died some of the gutter presses first editions available about 1am had stories on their front pages slagging her off. The later editions of the same papers front pages were completely different.

Bibesia · 18/07/2018 10:26

She's unpopular with people like Mail/Express readers for the crime of being Not White.

Bibesia · 18/07/2018 10:31

NaughttoThree, the red tops only loved Diana after her death. As BlueBug says, they did a very quick U-turn at that point; they particularly hated the fact that she was going out with an Asian man. I remember vividly that in the weeks before her death there was an awful lot of knocking copy about the freeloading holiday on Dodie's yacht.

tillytrotter1 · 18/07/2018 10:32

I don't have feelings one way or the other, much to the amazement of Americans we met shortly before the wedding. However, I do find it odd how she tends to mother Harry, almost reversing their roles, saying to him well done after an engagement or event, such as patting his back after a balcony appearance. He should be the one offering her support in her new role in his difficult world.

tillytrotter1 · 18/07/2018 10:33

So true, Private Eye got hold of all the pre death headlines and they were not flattering. Once she died she was beatified.

LanguidLobster · 18/07/2018 10:34

It's really sick how her family are attempting to emotionally blackmail her about her father's heart problems at the moment

StaySafe · 18/07/2018 10:36

My general impression is good, I think she and harry are a good match.
There are two areas where I'm not so enthusiastic.

  1. She really needs to re-establish contact with her father, he has been quite seriously ill and they seem to have been close in the run up to the wedding before things went wrong.
  2. Once she has found her confidence it would be good to see her in some high street brands rather than the expensive designer brands she seems to favour for every event.
scaryteacher · 18/07/2018 10:49

Some people may recall a previous American divorcee who married into the Royal Family; caused all sorts of problems!!!

In do wish she would stop hanging on to Harry's arm though. Not appropriate when he's in uniform, and she didn't need to hang on to him in the christening photos either.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 18/07/2018 10:53

Everyone who I've heard mentioned her in rl seems to really like her, so I wouldn't think she's unpopular at all Confused.

There is a little knot of people from the DM comments section who seem intent on saying awful things about her, but I find it's best to completely ignore them. Smile

She seems fine to me!

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 18/07/2018 10:56

Kate isn't common. She speaks posher than the Queen

She does now, but she didn't used to. Her voice changed quite dramatically - she used to sound like the rest of her family do now!

I don't mind her - I actually feel really sorry for her tho with her family! none stop in the papers selling stories calling her names - sister today says she will blame meg if their dad dies?!?!?!?! I honestly think the markle family is awful and need to shut up! but meg no she seems ok - she seems to make harry happy :)

sprinklesandsauce · 18/07/2018 11:20

YANBU OP. Every article I have seen criticizes either her clothes or her behaviour, day after day pointing out the things that she has done wrong.

I thought that Harry marrying Meghan showed just how far the Royal Family have come, and think that the press need to stop judging her.

They were exactly the same with Diana and Fergie, Diana could do no wrong and Fergie was slated all the time for her clothes and her behaviour.

Kate certainly does look and act like future queen. Shes very dynamic and old fashioned and classy.
I like Meghan but she seems, for a confident woman, quite timid. However i remember Kate shaking on her wedding day so this is a role one must learn. Respect comes by lasting the duration-in 5 years when they have children it will be different.
Must say Kate is like the cat who got the cream. Genuinely thrilled with her life. She did good, although Marlborough school for girls at 35,000 a year is hardly common. I have a feeling the Middletons taught their girls to aim high.

Katri0na · 18/07/2018 11:48

Kate certainly does look and act like future queen.

that is an insult to our current Queen.

ZoeWashburne · 18/07/2018 11:52

You know, with all these ridiculous Meghan-faulting threads on here, I have to wonder if Kate is secretly creating mumsnet accounts to start a whisper campaign against her haha

User183737 · 18/07/2018 11:54

I dont think so. She behaves well and is graceful and respectful. She hasnt had to step up to the rold yet but when she does i believe both of them will act impeccably. They are, to be honest, the only chance of maintaining public interest in the royals.
Nobody could match the queen in terms of duty. But it came at huge cost to her children and to her marriage. Times have changed and K+W are being allowed the space to develop their family.
