To wonder just why Meghan seems so unpopular?

Just that really. I obviously don’t buy the magazines that must print all the insider gossip. From what I’ve seen of her I’ve liked, and felt some sympathy for her. Am I wrong?

I don't think she's unpopular at all. Her and Harry come across as a lovely couple and seem so in love.

Her family (father, sister and other hangers on) come across as cretins.

Nobody has seen anything about Meghan being unpopular - quite the contrary.

I'm genuinely baffled that you haven't seen any of the vitriol, either on MN or the wider web.

I should have said on the original post that I had got the impression by listening to people who had read articles about her and were commenting about them. As I have already said, I like what I have seen of her and just wondered if anyone on here could explain it. Thank you for your replies.

She is unpopular in the gutter press, from what I can see. They seem to be always trying to find fault with her.

Most people like her, or have no opinion I think in reality.

I've never met her so I have no opinion either way (and I don't read the kind of magazines or websites that gossip about this stuff).
She will be the designated victim for a while and then the tabloids etc will move on to someone else. She looks like she can cope.

I don't get these responses, Meghan is like a hate figure on here.
To answer your question, I've no idea why. She seems very personable and doesn't put a foot wrong, is stylish and beautiful.

I think it’s because she’s a woman, personally. Everyone loves to criticise them.

Look at the flack Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice copped when her husband had an affair. Somehow it was all her fault Confused

Likewise Kate Middleton, she was a scheming bitch and if wasn’t her it was her mother Hmm

The Queen and Philip are lacking the pleasure of engaging with Meghans' family.

I think I may have read that the Middletons have some contact with the Royals, if not much.
I'm not keen on Meghan but I do feel for her as she has no family here to turn to.

She seems quite unpopular with my American friend and her circle but everyone else I know like her and the articles I’ve read seem positive.

I like her.

The level of vitriol and the endless threads on MN in the lead up to the wedding were pretty appalling IMHO. People were horrible.

For the most part, commentary on MN lately has been positive, but there were some pretty nasty threads, with quite a few racist code words in some posts, leading up to the royal wedding.

I don't know anyone that likes her. She comes across as fake imo. Bloody hell!

She's an actress, a foreigner and is marrying a real life prince... The first 2 make it difficult enough for anyone to be seen as real, the latter, well, you know, green eyed monsters and all that!

IMO your comment makes me think you move in circles where princes are every day people and Meghan has upset you and your friends, possibly by poaching 'your man'... maybe not Grin

I don’t hate her but I don’t like her either. I’m indifferent. She’s a divorced American actress doesn’t really fit the standard royal role really, but if they are happy no skin off my nose not like harry is ever going to be king.

I agree, I can't believe the vile things I read about her. She is being abused and called all sorts of name, people are already predicting her divorce.

I can only think that they are racist and they are jealous. George Clooney's wife seems to attract as much vitriol , you'd think the fact that Amal was a professional with a career would please people, but no, some people are still trying to ridicule her and mock her genuine qualifications.

I have never read so much vitriol against Kate Middleton.

I don't think she's unpopular, just a little irritating.

She can't behave in public properly and it gives off a bad impression. Recently she has:

  • crossed her legs in public twice
  • always fiddles with her hat
  • PDAs (which the royal family hate)

They sound silly but they all go against royal protocol. She knew she was marrying into this lifestyle and I think once she settles and understands, her popularity will increase

I don't dislike her and I don't know anyone that does (although admittedly we don't discuss it much).

I think her dad was right, she looks startled and stressed by her new performative role as an extremely boring clothes-horse, she is probably a much more outgoing and fun person and perhaps the reality of those public engagements is looming for her.

Her dad still shouldn't have given the interview, discretion is the better part of valour and all that and he doesn't seem to be learning how to keep quiet.
