The Trump-Putin Summit in Helsinki, coming so soon after Trump’s ally-crumbling display in Britain and at the EU, is still sinking in. Let’s just say: he’s in all kinds of shit. All the kompromat.

@AshleyRParker
Even after Helsinki, Trump told allies Putin was a smart, formidable adversary who he admires — and rather than focus on the Russia fallout, at times obsessed about the DNC server hack. Inside Walk Back Week: Trump came up w the “double negative” defense, after reviewing first the transcript of the Helsinki presser and then the video. W @PhilipRucker, @jdawsey1 + @CarolLeonnig. Even among Trump defenders and White House aides, Trump’s initial willingness to turn over @McFaul to the Russians revealed a frightening naïveté, as allies wondered if Trump really understand Putin or his autocratic government. @charlie_savage

Since Trump is twitterin' this morning about the Carter Page FISA materials the NYT and others obtained yesterday via FOIA litigation, here are some takeaway observations about the documents /1
Many of these observations were in my article last night which is here, but I'll convert them into bullet points for Twitter /2
The importance of seeing these docs is that the public can judge for itself whether Devin Nunes and HPSCI Republicans were telling the truth in February when attacking the FBI and Russia investigation on Trump's behalf; Dems said they were mischaracterizing the docs and lying. /3

Huh. The title of ohmymimi's WaPo link is wrong. It should have read:

After a tumultuous run in the White House, Sean Spicer is ready to talk now – but actually he just farts out a load of words and says nothing at all.

TheClaws · 22/07/2018 23:07

Sean Spicer disappoints me. I though he might have been an intelligent person caught in a horrible job, but it turns out he’s just a little toady after all.

My thoughts exactly, TheClaws.

A toady with a book to sell, in fact.

TheClaws · 23/07/2018 00:31

Let’s break this one down! 1. Yes, Obama did know, and he did try to do something about it. Many things. This is well known. 2. He did tell the Trump campaign, including Trump himself. 3. If it is a hoax, all of this tweet is nonsense anyway, as the events wouldn’t have occurred. 4. Enough with the “Crooked Hillary!” That’s more asinine by the day.

So President Obama knew about Russia before the Election. Why didn’t he do something about it? Why didn’t he tell our campaign? Because it is all a big hoax, that’s why, and he thought Crooked Hillary was going to win!!!

OMG. This is wrong on so many levels I don’t know where to start. Rouhani May have threatened the US - and I haven’t yet looked at that part - but does a sane leader do this in response? A sane leader with the world’s largest military at his disposal?

To Iranian President Rouhani: NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE. WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!

The excerpt below is from this article: www.news.com.au/finance/work/leaders/donald-trump-issues-shocking-threat-to-iranian-leader/news-story/4505eaac269cf62826dff6422617030f

WHAT WAS THE THREAT?
President Rouhani warned Mr Trump earlier today that the “mother of all wars” would take place if the US maintained its hostilities towards Iran.
“Mr Trump, don’t play with the lion’s tail, this would only lead to regret,” he told a gathering of Iranian diplomats.
“America should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars.
“You are not in a position to incite the Iranian nation against Iran’s security and interests.”
Mr Rouhani scoffed at Mr Trump’s threat to halt Iranian oil exports and said Iran had a dominant position in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil shipping waterway.
“Anyone who understands the rudiments of politics doesn’t say ‘we will stop Iran’s oil exports’ … we have been the guarantor of the regional waterway’s security throughout history,” Mr Rouhani said, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

It's a Russian distraction, and a distraction from Russia, isn't it?
Russia are pals with Iran, Putin has Trump under his claw, Trump and Iran start a war of words.
It's NK all over again.

TheClaws · 23/07/2018 07:35

Trump and Putin discussed Iran at their Helsinki summit. Below is another excerpt, this time from (!!) Breitbart. Don’t judge me.

Fast-forward to the press conference on Monday. Putin, who spoke first, said that the U.S. and Russia had agreed on a new course of action in Syria: “The south of Syria should be brought to the full compliance with the treaty of 1974, about the separation of forces — about separation of forces of Israel and Syria. This will bring peace to Golan Heights, and bring [a] more peaceful relationship between Syria and Israel, and also to provide security of the state of Israel.” Trump also referred to the agreement in his remarks at the press conference, and suggested that both the U.S. and Russia had agreed with the Israeli position on the issue.

Most of the Beltway journalists at the press conference were too busy asking about the 2016 election to ask about either Iran or Syria. But the Israeli media noticed — and so, too, did Yaroslav Trofimov, the Wall Street Journal‘s Middle East columnist, who reported that Putin had granted Israel’s request. While it was not clear whether the two leaders had agreed to push Iranian troops out of Syria, it is clear, as Glick observes, that Iranian troops cannot operate within Syria without the help of Russian air cover.

TheClaws · 23/07/2018 07:59

Lweji Or perhaps Putin predicted Trump would react in this manner to a bit of Iranian rhetoric - because we all know how stable and diplomatic he is, right? What greater way exists to fire up (quite literally) a geopolitical hotspot than for one dictator to covertly nudge another?
