The Trump-Putin Summit in Helsinki, coming so soon after Trump’s ally-crumbling display in Britain and at the EU, is still sinking in. Let’s just say: he’s in all kinds of shit. All the kompromat.

Trump Is Being Manipulated by Putin. What Should We Do?

In reference to that 'Atlantic' article lion posted a link to, I had been thinking about that earlier, prompted by the tweets below. They reminded me of what the Oaf said immediately when he heard of the Cohen FBI raid:

'It’s a real disgrace. It’s an attack on our country in a true sense,” he said. “It’s an attack on what we all stand for so when I saw this and when I heard it, I heard it like you did, I said that is really now in a whole new level of unfairness.” '

From the 'Atlantic':
'From this perspective, it’s not surprising that Trump has doggedly refused to acknowledge Russia’s meddling in 2016 in clear terms. In their story Thursday revealing that intelligence officials gave Trump specific evidence of Vladimir Putin’s role in directing Russian electoral interference, David Sanger and Matthew Rosenberg of The New York Times describe Trump’s “fear” that “any admission of even an unsuccessful Russian attempt to influence the 2016 vote raises questions about the legitimacy of his presidency.” Trump, in other words, could not subordinate his personal interest in claiming an untainted victory to the nation’s interest in acknowledging—and combatting—Russian meddling. Not only did Trump’s response betray an astonishing lack of patriotism, it’s not clear he even understands the distinction between self and country upon which the concept rests .

I'm not sure in him it is even nationlism, more his complete narcissism, combined in a nexus with what he learnt from his father, Cohn and Norman Peak, hence it's not clear he even understands the distinction between self and country upon which the concept rests .

@kaitlancollins
People close to Trump said they had never seen him so indignant. (And this is a president known for his outbursts.)

@kaitlancollins
Remember what an extraordinary day it was after the FBI raided Cohen’s office. Trump was flanked by military officials in the Cabinet room for a meeting that was supposed to focus on Syria. Instead, he fumed about the “disgrace” of the raid, calling it a new level of unfairness.

I’m just sitting here with my jaw on the floor thinking what the fuck does this narcissistic psychopathic moron have to do for the GOP to act?

I agree

Something big happens and I think... well, at least the GOP will have to do something now. And they don't.
Rinse and repeat

Trump won't face up to facts that Russia interfered in the election. He is still 18 months later basking in the fact he beat HRC and still on occasions bangs on about his 306 votes, so if he accepts Russia interfered, that puts into question the legitimacy of his presidency, and he couldn't bear that.

That video is hilarious Bore, almost thought it was legit until I saw who posted it!

Oh, the poor darlings:

The dating swamp: How finding love in DC may be impossible for young Trump and GOP staffers

GOP employees and other right-wingers have been complaining that dating in one of the most Democratic cities in America is a political minefield. They’ve been called out, flipped off and told they are personally responsible for the death of democracy.

The so called President of the United States of America apparently doesn't understand how law 'n order in the US works. The so called President of the United States did not write this tweet. Subtle clues: no caps and no spelling mistakes:
@realDonaldTrump
Inconceivable that the government would break into a lawyer’s office (early in the morning) - almost unheard of. Even more inconceivable that a lawyer would tape a client - totally unheard of & perhaps illegal. The good news is that your favorite President did nothing wrong!

ohmymimi · 21/07/2018 18:51

Gosh:
'While the president suggested that Mr. Cohen’s recording may have been illegal, New York law allows one party to a conversation to tape it without the other knowing. Over the years, Mr. Cohen, in his dealings on Mr. Trump’s behalf with journalists, opposing lawyers and business adversaries, frequently taped his conversations, unbeknown to the people with whom he was speaking. Mr. Trump himself also has a history of recording phone calls and conversations.'

"The good news is that your favorite President did nothing wrong"

Despite the lack of caps, that phrase alone proves that he wrote that tweet.

"Your favorite President". Gag. I need a barf bag.

BolleauxtoBankers · 21/07/2018 21:59

A lot of people are interpreting that Tweet as President Obama being their "favorite President", Across. Toddler dotard won't like that..

MOSCOW, July 21. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov underscored in his telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that US actions against Russian citizen Maria Butina were inadmissible, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

AcrossthePond55 · 21/07/2018 22:57

Bolleaux I like that thinking!!!

mackerella · 21/07/2018 23:45

This is possibly a naive question, but what exactly is Bannon's point in trying to stir up a right-wing populist movement across Europe? I mean, obviously he wants to destroy the EU (both as a trading bloc and also as a power rival to the US), but how do people like him justify this sort of shit in terms of its impact on people's lives more broadly? I mean, I vote for left-wing, redistributive governments because I think that this is the best means to a fairer deal for all - better healthcare for everyone, a fairer distribution of wealth, and so on. It's not about me - and it's certainly not about getting my particular tribe into power! What I mean is that I want particular parties to gain power as a means to an end, not as an end in itself. If I thought that the Conservatives represented the best means to that end, I would probably vote for them (highly unlikely, though!).

So... if I were an alt-right fanatic like Bannon, how would I be justifying all this to myself? What is he actually trying to achieve? I know he is on record as supporting anarchy, but surely it's more than just shit-stirring? And more broadly, how do people who vote for extreme right-wing parties justify their actions beyond the purely personal. Or don't they? Confused Because otherwise we're perilously close to concluding again that all Republicans are selfish, and I don't really want to go down that line of argument again...

mackerella · 21/07/2018 23:47

Sorry, that all seemed clearwr in my head than on the page! (I've had a drink or two...) I guess I was just pondering what motivates Bannon and his ilk to wreak such havoc in Europe when they don't even live there. And, by extension, what would motivate people to support them (assuming you don't subscribe to the simplistic view that they're all stupid or evil).

mackerella · 21/07/2018 23:48

More cheerfully, here's an interview with John Kasich, who is one of the remaining Never Trumpers:

Tweets often deliberately look like his Across, Scavino apparently specialises in Trump tweet mimicking! And there is a Twitter bot that can be used to estimate whether it's the Oaf or not. It is bizarre that this is how some WH staff might be employed now. Well, in the general scheme of things in Trump world, maybe only slightly bizarre. Smile
