Mums who squirt pouches into baby’s mouth

I find this so lazy and gross while out and about, seems to be increasing. Even worse when Mum is gazing into iPhone and not even looking what she’s doing !

OP posts:

Just for the record OP could you list all the things you disapprove of? So I can ensure my parenting is sufficiently mumsnet compliant and I can avoid the evil stares...

For the record, my kids did 'Baby led weaning' AKA eating some veg and stuff. I really couldn't care less. My friends have bf/ff/purees entirely home made vegan/babyled weaning/co-slept/CC.....

We all do what we think is going to work for the actual human in front of us. I can't get on board with all this rubbish.

Mums, you are epic. Meh to virtue signalling mumsnet posts and nonsense judgements. Most ridiculous post.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 17/07/2018 13:30

I used to use pouches and squirt them on to the spoon. Isn't that the idea? Confused #doingitwrong

TheMonkeyMummy · 17/07/2018 13:34

@BatShitBuns

They do have an environmental impact, there is no denying that. Saying that everyone who comments must be vegan, not fly, blah blah blah is just pathetic IMO. Everyone should be doing what they can to address/create awareness because it is a major issue at the moment and ime people just don't always think. As consumers we should not be ridiculing each other, but we should definitely be considerate in our choices and putting pressure on manufacturers to step up and address these issues.

BatShitBuns · 17/07/2018 13:37

Yes they do, as do many other things which I imagine most MNetters do that do not get judgy threads posted about them.

I do not own or drive a car and I do not eat meat or dairy, therefore my carbon footprint is going to be less than someone who does drive and does eat meat and dairy but doesn't use pouches. My point is all this faux concern that people aren't being judgy, they're just concerned about the environment, is a load of total bollocks. It's just used an excuse to be a dick.

TheMonkeyMummy · 17/07/2018 13:47

I am also vegan although my family aren't, used cloth nappies, we recycle absolutely EVERYTHING, but second hand, DH cycles 26kilometres to work and back every day, we make our own cosmetics (yes really!), wash with soap nuts, clean with vinegar (chemicals are my particular big bear), bake our own bread... I could go on and on and on. We are pretty green.

I am just saying don't diss the others who might just be at the beginning of their green journey. You don't know that they are just saying it to be dicks. Personally, I would encourage rather than diss.

welshmist · 17/07/2018 13:51

monkey I think I was green through poverty. Terry nappies, a hand food chopper for baby food following breastfeeding. Growing veg. making jams and wine from fruit gluts. Just too old and financially sound these days to do all that. We do still grow some salads and fruits, cook from scratch still. You make me feel awfully guilty.

RibenaMonsoon · 17/07/2018 14:05

What's wrong with a bit of Ellas Kitchen for gods sake!?

DS teethed REALLY badly and was in a lot if pain. Those pouches were a god send! They are also recyclable and don't have any preservatives in. I fail to see how this isn't "proper food" and how it damages the environment.

Aside from the aforementioned chewing and feeding technique (so gross). How do you suggest I get pureed food into him when I'm out and about? Take my blender with me?

Although to be honest I can't say I give a sugar frosted f##k what you think. My little boy is healthy and happy.

I would suggest that you remove the judgy pants. I'm sure you aren't perfect either! As women we should be supporting each other. Motherhood can be tough at times and we all are just doing the best we can with the life cards we've been dealt.

betherenowinaminute · 17/07/2018 14:17

I used pouches, washed and sterilized then refilled with a piping bag of purée. Froze, then used again. Worked quite well as long as there are no lumps

TeasndToast · 17/07/2018 14:36

My husband sometimes feeds our DD from a pouch and simultaneously looks at his phone. Luckily he is a dad not a mum and as such does not appear to receive your harsh judgment. So I’ll just pass them to him next time we use one in public so us mums won’t look bad Grin

TeasndToast · 17/07/2018 14:38

When I buy organic chicken and stuff it’s packaged in plastic that goes to landfill too so don’t really get the argument there. I also don’t need to run a steriliser, dishwasher or use chemicals such as washing up liquid or dishwashing tablets when feeding from a pouch.

boymum9 · 17/07/2018 14:52

I mean.... I spent 99% of my time playing with, tending to, looking after, cleaning up after, making nice food, waking in the night for, laying with when they're not well etc etc etc my children (of course I chose to have children, I adore them) so sometimes if I'm out and we're pressed for time I hand my one year old a pouch because 1. He's fiercely independent and if I feed him with a spoon he will hit it and cry 2. Sometimes I squeeze it because it gets stuck and he can't get it all out. God forbid I think I probably have even looked at my phone once or twice if I have receive I text/call I've been waiting for.

ChannellingFlop · 17/07/2018 15:55

Pouches = flipping godsend. They're often the most nutritionally excellent thing my 3.5 year old eats all day.
(She has ASD and food is not a battle I'm ever going to win.)

PickleJuice · 17/07/2018 15:59

Ooh ooh ooh, I bought a spoon you could screw straight on to the pouches.
I actually don't know if that's better or worse. Confused Grin

Greenglassteacup · 17/07/2018 16:04

Fucking goady bellend

bostonkremekrazy · 17/07/2018 17:04

@kewiinkits and others who may want to know....
You can buy refillable pouches - squeeze and go - is one brand but lots out there now....make your own food and reuse the pouches.

No landfill dramas needed!!!!

BatShitBuns · 17/07/2018 17:19

Those blinking reusable pouches are an absolute PITA to wash. Never manage to get them clean.

FontSnob · 17/07/2018 17:44

Oh yes regurgitated food for the pfb is totally the new baby led weaning. You just have to ensure you’re chewing the organic veg the exact amount of times.

preggoagainwithnumber3 · 17/07/2018 17:48

Agree with OP

bostonkremekrazy · 17/07/2018 17:52

BatShitBuns dh has never had a problem using the brush that came with my set..i would only trust the see-through ones to be clean as you can see inside 🙄
Re-using ella etc pouches is 😷

NeatFreakMama · 17/07/2018 17:54

I use them when I'm out and about and I can't see the point in bringing a spoon, it's not like the baby cares. It would be lazy to sit in the house all day not doing anything with the kid but then you would get to see me and be all judgy Hmm

1MorePiece · 17/07/2018 17:54

Ha just fed my angry hungry baby straight from a pouch as her tea time was delayed then saw this thread Biscuit

bostonkremekrazy · 17/07/2018 17:55

Or buy ella's and return to the landfill drama.
Mums cannnot win.

pollymere · 17/07/2018 18:06

I thought OP was questioning those parents who squirt food into their child's mouths rather than letting them self feed from the pouch. I'm surprised the kids don't choke tbh!

MarieeBarone · 17/07/2018 18:25

Surprised you can see people feeding their babies straight from pouches all the way up there on your high horse Hmm

HmmGrey · 17/07/2018 18:28

Mum shaming as usual! Stop worrying about what other mothers are doing. If the child is happy and healthy then what does it matter. Concentrate on your own parenting and stop judging others
