i've been feeling very happy since loosing weight and with the hot weather i bought myself some new summer clothes. i found a nice pair of shorts and really liked them until.. dp took a photo of me from the back. the back of my legs are absolutely covered in cellulite, it looks so bad Sad

i'm so embarrassed i've been going round in short shorts oblivious. is there anything i can do to improve the appearance or do i just never get my legs out in public again?

Sad

Wear the shorts and delete the photo

user1484424013 · 17/07/2018 19:13

This was me 3 weeks ago. Then I found out my husband has stage 2 cancer. So be like me and say fuck it. Wobble and bobble and be fucking proud because your life can change in one second and you will wish you wore the shorts. Plus findo a dance class clears it up

Felyne · 17/07/2018 19:19

I have cellulite. If it is hot I wear shorts. Fuck making myself uncomfortable in case someone is offended looking at me.

roundturnandtwohalfhitches · 17/07/2018 19:28

I'm 49 and have a good friend who is 30. She told me the rule was no one over 40 should wear short skirts or shorts. Once I'd finished PMSL I asked her why. She said because of wrinkly knees. I then proceeded to PMSL a bit more. Told her there's no rules and when she's 40 to come and see me if and tell me wrinkly knees is what she needed to worry about. So you may have cellulite Op- but bet you don't have wrinkly knees. Me I have cellulite and weirdly fat knees. Don't give a shit.

babyno5 · 17/07/2018 19:52

Wear the shorts! Celebrate your weight loss and hubby clearly thought you looked hot to take a picture of you from behind!
I’m a big girl and I wear shorts when it’s hot although I hate it when my legs are too pale lol x

StrangeLookingParasite · 17/07/2018 20:01

My knees look like frowning turnips these days but I'm too hot to give a monkeys puffhole.

What an excellent turn of phrase you have!

BloodyNorasNeighbour · 17/07/2018 20:04

So OP I do have a solution for you! I too lost a lot of weight last year (3 stone) and I had a treatment called LPG. It’s like a mini hoover that they hoover your thighs with you have to have multiple sessions (I had about 12) and it does hurt a bit for the first few sessions. I can honestly say it transformed my cellulite and it was dramatically reduced to almost nothing. I agree whole heartedly with other posters that we all have it and it is nothing to be ashamed of but I just wanted to make it as best as I could, so wanted to pass on the tip !

Lovemusic33 · 17/07/2018 20:27

I have bad cellulite too, I does get me down at times as I am a size ten (lost quite a bit of weight) and the rest of me is quite toned. I always look awful in photos anyway, I try not to look at them. I wear shorts all summer.

Flooffloof · 17/07/2018 20:28

Ok well I wear shorts as soon as its warm enough til as late in the year as possible.
Having never looked I don't know (but assume) I have cellulite. But for sure I have scars, weird red patches, and bumpy bits all over my legs.
One brilliant scar crosses the back of my knee. It's more faded silver now, but even when it was raw, I didn't give a stuff.
So wear your shorts, no one will be looking.
No one even asked me about the biggest scar on my leg even just after I did it. No one cares enough. They all walk around thinking about their own, scars, cellulite, bumps, odd red patches etc.

clippityclock · 17/07/2018 20:49

Is cellulite a modern concept or should I say the vilifying of it to make women feel shit about their bodies. There has always been cellulite however, those lovely beauty companies saw a way to make us hate our bodies even more and make money from their cellulite reducing properties.

Wear your shorts. I fully intend to strut around in shorts when I've lost weight (yes I see the irony in that statement) despite the fact I will no doubt still have cellulite.

frufru27 · 17/07/2018 21:32

Wear the shorts, who cares nobody is perfect enough for society anyway so you might as well do what pleases you. Well done on the weight loss 😜. If you you can be arsed a little bit of fake tan goes can make a world of difference.x

cheval · 17/07/2018 21:36

None of us is perfect. Wear those shorts with pride! And if anyone put pics of me on fb or anywhere, I would be blooming furious.

kateandme · 17/07/2018 22:56

if they are sniggering that means they are the kind who will find anything to do so because that just the mean git faces they are.so is there a way you can go fuk em and do it anyway. because you should you really should.but I know that so much easier said than done if you feeling self aware and worried.but you shouldn't.do you no very thin and the opposite can have cellulite from all types of skin, height or shape.its something that really doesn't pick who it gets.
ive seen some cream that can help a little.
but mostly ive heard its there and so learn to accept it.
its nothing to be ashamed of like a scare or birth mark.you just got to own it.and love yourself for having the kick ass body you have marks and all.

LaContessaDiPlump · 17/07/2018 23:01

op, I know someone with absolutely horrific self-harm scars - at least 100 of them covering arms, legs, torso etc. The reason I know she has them is because she wears short skirts and short-sleeved tops, with no trace of shyness. I admire her stance and have resolved to copy her attitude for the rest of my life. Do the same!

kateandme · 18/07/2018 00:08

lacontessadiplump wow that is so amazingly brilliant of her.to go through that and then carry on being so brave with the scars.amazing

RightyHoChaps · 18/07/2018 00:43

I usually get more cellulite when I've stopped doing squats 😂😂 try them and dry brushing. V good for it apparently.

On a more important note, OP, fuck everyone else... if you want to wear shorts, you go for it!! It's bloody hot at the moment and I am constantly in shorts... at one point, I was pretty much convinced I was going to walk around naked in the house...

Every single woman has cellulite somewhere. And women are the ones who get it, not men... something to do with the cellular structure that holds our fat layer in... ours is straight across whereas men's is criss cross shaped I'm not explaining this very well so it comes out on the upper epidermis looking like cellulite.

Add on top of that, our genetic predisposition to having a body composition with more fat than men... and voila, pretty much every woman has cellulite...

Embrace it love your body and enjoy your shorts!!!

MrsRainbowJohnson · 18/07/2018 01:45

OP be proud of yourself. You've come so far, well done Flowers

I have keratosis pilaris thats on the back of my arms also starts from my lower back and right down to my ankles. Totally covering my legs. Im totally paranoid about my legs too as i notice alot of people staring. It puts me off so i cover up all the time.

user1493391099 · 18/07/2018 08:34

Slim women have cellulite, it’s just one of those things we’ve got to learn to accept. There are plenty of knee length shorts out there that look nice I think. I agree that fake tan definitely improves the appearance, it doesn’t take it away but it just softens it a bit.

Leapfrog44 · 18/07/2018 09:00

Get some tan or fake tan and it's much less noticeable. Probably no one cares anyway!

BadBear · 18/07/2018 09:21

I have really toned legs and bum because of weight lifting, I still have cellulite. I spent too many years of my life worrying about it so sod it! Be proud of making a positive change by losing weight.

I find having exfoliated and moisturised skin makes me feel like a million dollars. I use this coffee scrub called Frank Body which smells divine and makes my skin on my legs look healthy. Give it a shot, it's the only thing that's worked for me over the years and it's not even that expensive.

sjonlegs · 18/07/2018 10:17

@smellmybacon - i feel your pain! I used to be a dancer, but after injury, 3 kids a hysterectomy ... need I go on- my legs (& belly for that matter) are far from the shapely loveliness that used to attract the boys back in days gone by?! It's hot out and I drew the same conclusion. However, I also thought I know who I am now and I'm not for taking strangers criticisms to heart anymore. WEAR THE DAMN SHORTS! ps Congrats on losing weight (tough at any age & good luck keeping it off). pps I find drinking lots of water, a good rub down with one of those knobbly things and not giving a fck helps with the cellulite! xx

chicaxe · 18/07/2018 11:47

Our idea of beauty is so bonkers now. Agree with clippityclock.Wish the word cellulite could be uninvented. Look at nudes painted by Rubens and Titian. Their models were not worrying about the totally normal and healthy fat stored on their legs (I hope).
Congratulations on your weight loss.

sugarbum · 18/07/2018 11:57

Have you seen these pics of George from fuller figure fuller bust?
Scroll down to the bottom for leg cellulite in all its glory.

George is a very very successful plus size model, both for clothing and underwear. She doesn't try to hide the bits that aren't 'perfect'. She has a tremendous figure but she has the same wobbly bits that other people do (just with a proportionally tiny waist and amazing boobs)

She is very vocal about body acceptance, being photoshopped etc.
If you want to wear shorts, wear shorts.
Well done for losing weight. Forget the photo and enjoy your body as it is.

PyongyangKipperbang · 18/07/2018 16:31

I agree that fake tan really makes a difference, there is something about white legs that makes it look more obvious.

user1472151176 · 18/07/2018 16:52

I've spent so much of my life worrying about what complete strangers think of my body. I look back at photos now from my youth and wish I had embraced my body and worn the clothes that I thought I couldn't.
I still try to dress to compliment my body and it's shape but I've stopped worrying so much. If you like the shorts, wear them. Some people may look and judge but 5 seconds later you'll never see them again. Be happy and be proud of the weight that you lost.
