i've been feeling very happy since loosing weight and with the hot weather i bought myself some new summer clothes. i found a nice pair of shorts and really liked them until.. dp took a photo of me from the back. the back of my legs are absolutely covered in cellulite, it looks so bad Sad

i'm so embarrassed i've been going round in short shorts oblivious. is there anything i can do to improve the appearance or do i just never get my legs out in public again?

Sad

OP, I'm 5'1 and in my younger years (before baby!) I weighed 7 st and STILL had cellulite.

Some of us just have it and that's that, it's genetic too.

Try to just accept yourself as you are, I know that's very tough.

Wear the shorts! Smile

dangermouseisace · 16/07/2018 15:06

I remember donkeys years ago my mum bought the Daily Fail, and there were pictures of Jerry Hall looking glam on the beach in a bikini (still with Mick at the time...prob about 20 years ago) and they were bitching about her cellulite. There seemed to be a fair bit from the photo, but so what?. It made me realise that a) any woman can have cellulite and b) the Daily Fail is staffed by reprobates. It’s that sort of body shaming that makes women insecure.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 16/07/2018 15:25

Can I also add... as a few people have questioned the DP about why he’d ever take that photo... he probably didn’t see it at all!! He just saw his missus.

TypicallyNorthern · 16/07/2018 15:28

Get your legs out in the sun. A tan will cover it up if you are feeling conscious.

TheViceOfReason · 16/07/2018 15:53

One of the most beautiful women i know is 16 stone with cellulite, a mum tum (3 children) and lots of wobbly bits.

She is very kind, smiley and open and people are drawn to her like moths.

Imabadmummy · 17/07/2018 17:44

I think its down to personal preference. I only wear cropped trousers - never shorts as i hate my legs.

I occasionally wear dresses but normally wear leggings or tights with them.

Commonpeoplelikeme · 17/07/2018 17:49

I admire some women who don’t give a shit and just do it (there are exceptions sorry....)
I wear knee length shorts because of that even though I’m fairly thin. Also as I have fat knees! But if you are worried skinny tan is a great product which actually does reduce the appearance of cellulite. More so than other fake tans I’ve used.

Smudge100 · 17/07/2018 17:49

I‘d kill just to have cellulite! The bones in my lower legs are deformed and it‘s very noticeable, even in trousers. I only ever wear shorts in the garden. But i wouldn‘t let a bit of cellulite put me me off. Nobody‘s perfect.

Katherine2626 · 17/07/2018 17:51

Wear your shorts! You have lost weight and if you are happy in them don't worry about other people. I doubt they are looking, and even if they are , so what?

pollymere · 17/07/2018 18:00

Ok. I'm a type 1 diabetic so my thighs are completely disfigured from injection marks. I had a baby and gained six stone which I lost so my stomach is covered with stretch marks. I wear a bikini. I don't have a "beach ready body". I was on a beach shortly after dd was born wearing my maternity swimsuit and realised that in France everyone just wore a bikini. Wear longer shorts if you must but no amount of potions will really make much difference, you'd be better off just embracing it. You can try brushing your skin apparently and I've also heard that fake tan is good but I'm happy being the lady with the ghostly white lumpy thighs.

urbansprawl · 17/07/2018 18:01

OP, mega congrats on the weight loss! So glad that you're wearing the shorts.

As other people have said, 'cellulite' is an unnecessary (and relatively recently invented) word for the way that most women store fat - even when they don't have very much of it. It's healthier to have it under our skin than around our organs (which is more common for men), but capitalism has decided that it 'looks bad' because there is money to be made in trying to make it go away. It's a genius business idea, because it's almost impossible to make it go away. Brilliant.

As such, I've decided that trying not to let my cellulite bother me is a small act of political protest. I shall wear my shorts too.

Rocinante1 · 17/07/2018 18:05

We've all been there! Wobbly bits, a bit of cellulite... I promise you, you will not stand out from anyone else (especially if you're around other mums!).

Wear the shorts! Don't give up your comfort just because of a bit of cellulite. You've done a great job losing weight... don't hide it!

Benandhollysmum · 17/07/2018 18:08

Celebs over certain age all have cellulite they just have very good air brushing people on hand...Kim Kardashian etc ...so don’t ever for one second think the world we live in is perfect it’s only as perfect as the filter we live through...
Get the shorts on!! Show that cellulite, for record id love to wear shorts but my legs are skinny chicken legs and pale and huge bloody pores...worry when ur legs are like that..until then least it’s only some dimpling

Hygge · 17/07/2018 18:16

Wear the shorts.

The hell with anybody rude and petty enough to snigger.

If they have that mentality they're not worth dressing for anyway. They're just crap people. Who cares about crap people?

I bet you look great, but hopefully you feel even better. Well done on the weight loss Flowers

HavannahC · 17/07/2018 18:25

You can only reduce cellulite by losing body fat ... hence why people who don’t weigh much but can still have it, hence the term “skinny fat”.

Oddcat · 17/07/2018 18:27

At least you haven't got black pubey hairs creeping down the back of your legs like I have !

Verbena87 · 17/07/2018 18:33

Cellulite is normal! My thighs had it even when I was a size 6 and running half marathons over mountains. Wear the shorts!

I put mine in the Oxfam bag before the heatwave and am so glad I got them out again - being comfy is better than looking like a photoshopped adolescent (and now my legs are getting brown and actually, they look banging, cellulite and all)

Verbena87 · 17/07/2018 18:35

@havvanahC I think some legs are just bumpy though. I had a low enough body fat percentage when mine first appeared that the IVF consultant sent me away for 6 months to get my muscle:fat ratio a bit fattier.

Mayflymaynot · 17/07/2018 18:35

I have managed to get rid of loads of cellulite on legs by weird method alert putting shower cream on a nailbrush and scrubbing it up and down my legs before i shave them. I then literally slap on moisturiser and really rub it in hard like im kneading dough. I only have a teeny cellulitey bit at very tops of thighs under butt cheeks.

Wink
Deathraystare · 17/07/2018 18:38

Even models have it - so f*ck it. Wear them if they are comfy!

Sussedyouout · 17/07/2018 18:44

Well done for loosing weight! Don’t worry about cellulite, we all have it. I saw an extremely slim lady in shorts today who still had plenty of cellulite 🤔.

Bet you look fab 💐

Clairaloulou · 17/07/2018 18:44

My dog walker is as fit as a flea and she is so thin, but has a lot of cellulite on her thighs. You don’t have to be fat to have it. Pat yourself on the back for losing weight and wear your shorts! 😊

lauramaywharton · 17/07/2018 18:44

I'm only 25 I have stretch marks on my calfs and on my thunder thighs with home style rubbish tattoos and cellulite and the added bonus of really bad spot scars that are the size of two pence coins on my higher legs and a car crash scar on my knee which people say looks gross. But I don't care I always have my legs out I think it's my mum tum that's more off-putting lol. Be proud of yourself for loosening weight and think to yourself all the stares are from people wishing they can look as good as you lol 😂 hell what people think just wear what you think you look and feel good in. Pictures make everything look bad by the way

Threewheeler1 · 17/07/2018 18:45

Wear them Grin
My knees look like frowning turnips these days but I'm too hot to give a monkeys puffhole. I'm getting them out and I don't care if I scare the horses...
MNHQ can we have a turnip emoji please?

Ikabod · 17/07/2018 18:49

What @BillywigSting said waaay down the thread.

For YEARS I've seen women baring their "less than perfect" legs and wished I had the guts to bare my legs. I have admired them.
I have cellulite too, and my calves and shins are covered in bruises and look like plucked chickens. This year has been too hot for too long so I've FINALLY gone out my summer dresses and shorts (normally only ever worn on holiday) and do you know what? It's been great and no-one else bats an eyelid.
