i've been feeling very happy since loosing weight and with the hot weather i bought myself some new summer clothes. i found a nice pair of shorts and really liked them until.. dp took a photo of me from the back. the back of my legs are absolutely covered in cellulite, it looks so bad Sad

i'm so embarrassed i've been going round in short shorts oblivious. is there anything i can do to improve the appearance or do i just never get my legs out in public again?

Sad

I don't have cellulite on my legs (stomach is a different matter!) but I have a few large scars on my legs, some from surgery and one from an accident, I wear shorts and don't give a damn what anyone thinks. However I won't be wearing them today as it's pouring down, first rain I have seen for weeks. Wear your shorts with pride OP.

chicaxe · 16/07/2018 09:28

Cellulite is just a woman's way of carrying fat stores. Good useful fat that the female body needs in pregnancy/breast feeding etc.
Before the word was invented I bet no woman even thought about it. I hate all these words that have been invented to sell expensive treatments and make women hate their bodies. eg cankles, 11s, muffin top etc etc etc. It's all a load of hateful shite.

TheVanguardSix · 16/07/2018 09:28

i have been imagining people sniggering behind my back.

Oh my goodness, OP. No way. We'd all be laughing at ourselves in this case. Does anyone, in reality, anyone at all under the age of 25 look that great in shorts (from the front or the back)?

I'm 5'10" and size 8. You'd think, "Ah, I bet she looks great in shorts."
Nope! I look awful in them. My legs are like throbbing road maps full of proper varicose veins. It's like I've got earth worms digging me up from groin to ankle. Yay! I feel sexy. Confused
I've got cellulite.
It's the rare person who looks great in shorts.
I NEVER snigger at anyone wearing shorts. Never. And I think I'm in the majority.
Do you know what, OP, who cares? You don't have to care. So don't! Wear those shorts and be so proud of your weight loss. That's such an awesome achievement.

Emma765 · 16/07/2018 09:32

Wear your shorts with pride, OP!

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 16/07/2018 09:32

I'm a size 18, I have chunky legs, knobbly knees and cellulite-y thighs - I made a vow to myself not to wear shorts again and spent many hot summers in cropped trousers or long skirts.

Then a couple of years ago I was on a beach holiday and I looked around and saw that they only woman who looked even vaguely self-conscious was slim and young and gorgeous, covering herself as she stripped down to her bikini by the pool. I looked around at all the happy, tanned, fat older women in their bikinis, not giving a fuck and thought, I'd rather be like them than be slim and gorgeous and still not happy with my perfect body!

So I decided not to give a fuck, bought several pairs of shorts and even some bikinis and have worn them all since, both at home and away.

Anyone who thinks I shouldn't be wearing them "at my size" can kiss my fat arse.

pudding21 · 16/07/2018 09:36

I have a friend, very clim, very fit and her legs have a lot of cellulite. She wears shorts, and as a female I applaud her confidence to do so. If people look at her legs and are offended, says more about them than it does about her. In fact it probably reassures a lot of women that you don't have to cover everything up and that bodies are ALL different. Rock the shorts.

dangermouseisace · 16/07/2018 09:42

I’m size 8/10 and have some varicose veins, spider veins and cellulite (everyone has it!) on my legs. I wear shorts.

Would men worry? No. Why should we? You’ve lost weight, you’ve bought some lovely shorts- wear them.

Orangecake123 · 16/07/2018 09:43

If you like them, wear them. Most women have cellulite. If you're not comfortable could you wear tights underneath?

Fintress · 16/07/2018 09:45

could you wear tights underneath?

Oh hell no! Defeats trying to keep cool plus it's not a good look.

Spaghettijumper · 16/07/2018 09:50

In the kindest possible way, you're a bit nuts to think anyone is taking any notice of you. Yes they might glance, but really most people have better things to be thinking about than your legs. So, again, in the kindest possible way, get over yourself and just wear the shorts.

GahWhatever · 16/07/2018 09:52

Wear the shorts that you like and are comfy and cool, knowing that there is half as much cellulite than there was previously ! Well done on your fabulous weightloss. Grin Flowers

pigsDOfly · 16/07/2018 09:55

A photo is a moment caught in time and you probably looked at it and picked out the one thing that you could criticize about your body.

While you're walking around it's not going to be that obvious to anyone else and no one will notice.

Wear your lovely shorts and enjoy them. No one is sniggering behind your back.

cholka · 16/07/2018 09:57

For the most part, the only legs without cellulite belong to a slim teenager, or have been photoshopped, usually both. All legs have a little fat and that fat structures itself a certain way. Cellulite shouldn't even be a concept, it's just how legs are. There should be a word for 'strangely cellulite-free legs' instead as they are in the minority.
Even my dd has cellulite and she's the most delectable creature ever made! It's nothing to do with some toxin crap and there are better things to do that rub stuff into yourself for hours on end to try to 'remedy' something that is totally normal.
Get your shorts on and enjoy yourself.

GahWhatever · 16/07/2018 10:01

oh, rereading your OP you ask if anything can minimize:: wear the shorts more so you get a bit of a tan. A bit of colour will make it feel better too. and again, wear the shorts!!

Bluntness100 · 16/07/2018 10:04

I also think wear them.

Statistically 90 percent of women get cellulite. I'm in the ten percent who weirdly never had it, but as I'm 49 I can now see in harsh light my skin can look loose, because of my age, on my arms and legs. I don't care and wear shorts mid thigh, although not normally out, and I wear sleeveless tops a lot, and out. My bingo wing area can look particularly rumpled and sometimes I see people glance there. I'm a size ten to twelve, and I don't care.

Light can make things look worse, just be happy and confident and don't stress about it.

Rhiannon13 · 16/07/2018 10:26

It's such a shame you should feel that way about something so absolutely normal as cellulite. All those years of being drip-fed airbrushed magazine 'perfection' hasn't done any of us any good has it, but we can all repair the damage by ignoring this crap and wearing what we bloody like. You like the shorts, so wear the shorts. It's too hot for anything other than minimal clothing and confidence in your fabulous female body!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 16/07/2018 10:35

Even the most slim, young and beautiful women can have cellulite. It doesn't matter OP.

Wear your bloody shorts! Grin

smellmybacon · 16/07/2018 11:02

thank you everyone i feel so much better and i am wearing the shorts!! Grin

i spent all last summer fat and miserable and have since lost 4 stone but i have anxiety so i've been hanging on to feeling bad about myself. i'm hoping the photo was just a bad angle, (i didn't realise i was in the side of a photo he was taking of the kids Blush)

hipposarerad · 16/07/2018 11:40

Tell you what, let's do a swap - I'll take your cellulite and you can have my varicose veins. You won't last more than a day sweating in jeans with your hideously misshapen Nik Nak legs before you're begging for your slightly-dimpled-but-still-recognisable-as-legs legs back.

Now consider your head wobbled and get those shorts on!

Horrordoeurvres · 16/07/2018 11:52

hey there!

I recently lost a bit of weight and have horrendous purple stretch marks on the inner side of my thighs, I'm not letting it bother me at all this summer because I realised everyone has something about themselves they don't like/are insecure about and the only way to help solve is to face it head on and not let it effect our lives negatively.

Wear those shorts with pride!
Good job with the weight loss, its a super difficult thing to do Flowers

Rhiannon13 · 16/07/2018 12:28

I have cellulite on my arms on top of ex-muscles so always used to cover them. I got more comments about wearing long sleeves in summer than I ever did about my lumpy arms (where comments have in fact be non-existent).

Oldraver · 16/07/2018 12:31

If you saw cellulite on someone else would you sit sniggering ?

Gottagetmoving · 16/07/2018 12:41

There's no rule that you have to have perfect legs to wear shorts.
Over the summer I've seen woman of all shapes and sizes and ages wearing shorts, some with lots of cellulite, and good for them! You deserve to be cool and comfortable as much as anyone else.
There are always some people who will sneer at you, whatever you look like. Life's too short to give a shit.

Ukelou · 16/07/2018 13:03

Photos and female insecurity, i always remember a friend saw a picture of a women from behind and said to herself i wish i had a figure like that her bum and legs are amazing. You guessed it, it was her as soon as she realised , she started picking fault with her figure, bum too fat legs too short etc. We really are our own worse enemies.

adoggymama · 16/07/2018 13:48

I'm a size 8 and have cellulite! Who cares, I'm sure your shorts look lovely! :) cellulite is a natural, normal thing.
