To think this cannot be legal...

DS1 13 months would not go to sleep tonight so DP took him in the pushchair for a walk. He came across an absolutely massive snake in the park. Someone had let him out of a large tank apparently (not in the pic). Lots of bystanders taking pics. I know people can have these in their homes, but in public??? Cannot be legal right?

I'm a regular but name changed as I knew people would ask where this was and obviously telling the location could be outing. This is in Roberts Park, Saltaire, West Yorkshire.

This is for real.

WTF?!!!!

To think this cannot be legal...

Even if the snake hasn't just been fed, the chances of it going after a dog or a child would be no more than a dog going after another dog or child. Snakes aren't the vicious horrors they're made out to be. Just keep your distance if you don't like them

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/07/2018 22:31

My nephew would have been delighted to see him though. He loves and is utterly fascinated by snakes.
I bet most of the children were amazed too.
Like I say love or loathe fear of fascination.
Its not something you see every day in England

OftenHangry · 15/07/2018 22:33

@FrangipaniBlue awwwwwww I want to see that!

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 15/07/2018 22:33

Oh god this has just reminded me of the man in my area that used to walk around town with his pet snake around his shoulders like a scarf Confused
They are very beautiful though and my dd would love it.

HerRoyalNotness · 15/07/2018 22:34

That’s fantastic! and a sight to behold.

I’ve discovered I’m not afraid of snakes, which is just as well as we get them in the garden, but I respect them at a distance as I can’t tell which are venomous and which aren’t. Although DS1 thinks he can, but why would you take the risk?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/07/2018 22:34

How fast do they move? Is there a risk that it could escape?

If it is a python they move extremely slowly - however they lunge fast, so can hang around waiting for their prey to wander past, then grab and crush it

UpstartCrow · 15/07/2018 22:35

Its like putting a hamster in a ball. How is the animal supposed to say its had enough?
They don't like wide open spaces, they like cover, especially after they've fed. Its possible you are not looking at an animal enjoying exercise, you are looking at an animal that's trying to find cover.

Typhers · 15/07/2018 22:35

Legal... And it’s ok you can run faster than a python can slither 😎

I guess albino snakes don’t hate the sunlight quite like humans then!

scater · 15/07/2018 22:36

Seems fairly normal behaviour in Saltaire tbf😂

duckfuckduck · 15/07/2018 22:36

Fuck.

steff13 · 15/07/2018 22:37

Aww, I'd be so excited if I saw a tortoise out for a walk on a leash.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 15/07/2018 22:40

This is awesome.

I also need to see a tortoise out for a walk.

These things have cheered me up after anreasonably shitty day. Thank you.

Mrsmadevans · 15/07/2018 22:41

WTF!!!!

ButchyRestingFace · 15/07/2018 22:41

Years ago, I saw a lady ambling down the busy, shop lined main road where I live, with her pet Rosella parrot on a lead, sitting happily on her arm.

She stopped the traffic.

Schroedingerscatagain · 15/07/2018 22:42

Could do with him visiting one of our local parks where there are apparently 2 adult bird eating tarantulas on the loose Confused

A breeding pair were somehow released but fortunately their offspring were still in the containers

Think I’d rather meet the snake

FrangipaniBlue · 15/07/2018 22:43

@OftenHangry @steff13 @IncyWincyGrownUp just for you!!!

(The neighbours must think I'm a few lightbulbs short of Blackpool illuminations!)

To think this cannot be legal...
aldaniti · 15/07/2018 22:45

Where do you live Schroedinger????!

ButchyRestingFace · 15/07/2018 22:46

😍😍😍

FASH84 · 15/07/2018 22:48

How do you keep a lead on a snake to walk(?) It?

HerRoyalNotness · 15/07/2018 22:48

frangipani so cute!

When my dad was a little lad in England he said he’d drilled a hole in his tortoise and tied it to a fishing line, then it could walk off so far, and he’d reel it back in. Not sure if I believe him or not!

Jimjamjooney · 15/07/2018 22:53

FrangipaniBlue bet you have nice long walks? Grin

FASH84 · 15/07/2018 22:53

@FrangipaniBlue he's lovely! Does he chase people? A school friend of mine had a tortoise (it had three legs and a wheel, there was an incident with a fox) and it would chase people in their back garden, it was a lot quicker than I expected.

A NDN's daughter near my parents used to walk her large rabbit on a harness. I like seeing different animals out for their constitutional!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/07/2018 22:54

A breeding pair (of tarantulas) were somehow released ... Think I’d rather meet the snake

Don't worry, they're not dangerous either; even if they feel threatened and bite it's no worse than a bee sting

When I stayed in Arizona the back yard (right next to the desert) was full of the things. They were quite cute actually, though I appreciate anyone with a phobia wouldn't think so!!

FrangipaniBlue · 15/07/2018 22:55

Up and down the street @Jimjamjooney it's like walking a wayward toddler lol

@HerRoyalNotness I know someone who ties a helium balloon on theirs when they let it out in the garden so that they always know where it is Grin

Schroedingerscatagain · 15/07/2018 22:55

The tarantulas are on the loose in Alfreton Derbyshire reported locally this weekend
