To think this cannot be legal...

DS1 13 months would not go to sleep tonight so DP took him in the pushchair for a walk. He came across an absolutely massive snake in the park. Someone had let him out of a large tank apparently (not in the pic). Lots of bystanders taking pics. I know people can have these in their homes, but in public??? Cannot be legal right?

I'm a regular but name changed as I knew people would ask where this was and obviously telling the location could be outing. This is in Roberts Park, Saltaire, West Yorkshire.

This is for real.

WTF?!!!!

I just put the park into Google maps to see how close to home it is. That’s one bloody big snake.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 15/07/2018 22:10

Table?! TANK

UpstartCrow · 15/07/2018 22:11

Best practice for handling constrictors over 6 feet is one person for the head, one for the tail, and one for every 3 feet of snake.

Grin Idk what I was expecting when I opened this thread but this was not it!
Wide0penSpace · 15/07/2018 22:11

frankie 😂

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 15/07/2018 22:11

Bloody hell.

Abra1de · 15/07/2018 22:12

If I saw that I would freak. Like quite a few people I have a phobia of snakes and wouldn’t be expecting to unexpectedly see such a large one in a public place. I would also be frightenEd for small dogs and cats.

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 15/07/2018 22:12

Fuck me, that's terrifying.

frankie001 · 15/07/2018 22:12

User I was joking as putting animals on leads normally comes up in park threads.

steff13 · 15/07/2018 22:13

What if it gets approached by another animal like a dog?!

He would unlock his jaw and swallow it whole? Shock

ladyvimes · 15/07/2018 22:14

It looks like some sort of python. It’s obviously a pet and obviously cared about if it’s out for a walk and the size it is (would take a long time to grow to that size). The only dangerous thing it could do is bite but a dog could do that too! Unusual to see one out but nothing illegal, dangerous or scary!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 15/07/2018 22:14

Hope the owner will pick up its poo then, if they carry a big enough baggie.

ArsenalsPlayingAtHome · 15/07/2018 22:15

I think keeping snakes is incredibly cruel. Taking it to a park is insane unless it's a herbivore..are any snakes that size herbivores, though?
I genuinely don't know.

QueenOfThorns · 15/07/2018 22:16

I have just looked under my bed for giant snakes. And I’m nowhere near Leeds! Shock

ButchyRestingFace · 15/07/2018 22:16

His human mum and dad were taking it out for a breath of fresh air?

I'd love to have been there - at a safe distance.

RoadToRivendell · 15/07/2018 22:17

Oh. My. God.
I like to think I'm a measured person (maybe not?) but I'd call 999.

What the fuck.

QueenOfThorns · 15/07/2018 22:17

No idea where I got Leeds from. Clearly there are other places in Yorkshire Blush

JacquesHammer · 15/07/2018 22:17

And I’m nowhere near Leeds!

Neither’s the park mentioned really!

JacquesHammer · 15/07/2018 22:18

Heh cross post!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/07/2018 22:19

Oh he's so cute. I want him.

Nicknacky · 15/07/2018 22:19

road what do you expect the police to do if the owner is there and it’s under control?!

NicoAndTheNiners · 15/07/2018 22:20

When I was a kid there used to be a bloke at the local seaside resort with a massive python which you could pay to have your photo taken with.

MarklahMarklah · 15/07/2018 22:20

I think it's quite nice. Less likely to jump all over you than a dog.

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/07/2018 22:21

This is in Roberts Park, Saltaire, West Yorkshire

Well I was going to ask DM if she wanted me to take her and her dog for a walk there (we're currently exploring the big parks in the Leeds Bradford area as they have good childhood memories for both of us) but I don't think I will now.

There seems to be a bit of a wild snake problem in Yorkshire - a python has been spotted before up in the woods in the Stainburn area. I suppose that people get fed up of them and release them Sad.

NicoAndTheNiners · 15/07/2018 22:21

That snake could easily eat a small dog.
