To think this cannot be legal...

DS1 13 months would not go to sleep tonight so DP took him in the pushchair for a walk. He came across an absolutely massive snake in the park. Someone had let him out of a large tank apparently (not in the pic). Lots of bystanders taking pics. I know people can have these in their homes, but in public??? Cannot be legal right?

I'm a regular but name changed as I knew people would ask where this was and obviously telling the location could be outing. This is in Roberts Park, Saltaire, West Yorkshire.

This is for real.

WTF?!!!!

To think this cannot be legal...

“That snake could easily eat a small dog.”
So could a big dog........

AfterSchoolWorry · 15/07/2018 23:44

It could crush something to death Shock

mangowango · 15/07/2018 23:48

Nope. No way. Not for me.

SallyOMalley · 15/07/2018 23:55

I used to live in Saltaire many moons ago. There used to be a parrot that sat in the branches of a tree outside the church. It used to bully the blackbirds!

But a snake?! Shock

KarlDilkington · 15/07/2018 23:59

@Nicknacky No she often has to get up and pursue them as they slither off over the wall HmmEnvy

JaneJeffer · 16/07/2018 00:05

Yuck! Hate snakes. I touched one once in the hope it might cure me but no, still hate them.

BertrandRussell · 16/07/2018 00:08

“It could crush something to death ”

A grape?

HelloSunshine11 · 16/07/2018 00:11

Happily I can't see the pic but am due in Saltaire tomorrow for work. I shall NOT be having a wander in the park at lunchtime now Shock

Kursk · 16/07/2018 00:17

Don’t see why it would be illegal, it’s a free world.

KC225 · 16/07/2018 00:22

Let's not be too hasty here, it could have been a support snake

Barmaid101 · 16/07/2018 00:31

A warning might have been nice in this thread title! The thought of snakes brings me out in a sweat and my breathing just getting back to normal now!
If I ever saw that in real life I would possibly have a heart attack! Can’t even go in reptile houses in zoos in case they have them.
Too scared to sleep now Blush

MsFrizzle · 16/07/2018 00:32

I'd love to see a massive snake in the park Grin

VivaLaVieBoheme · 16/07/2018 00:36

How is this any worse than people letting their dogs run around off a leash? Don't know that they are not about to hurt a child/small animal any more than in this scenario? This guy probs loves his pet snake as much as you do your dog which you let run up to me laughing that anyone may react with fear while condescendingly shouting 'Oh he won't do anything'...

Grammarist · 16/07/2018 00:36

Just looked at this post again.
It's still a massive nope for me.
A massive fuck off, no, WTAF is that owner thinking nope.
Just. No no no.

I might not like snakes...

CatOwned · 16/07/2018 00:39

Well, it could be worse. This beauty visited my university a few months ago.

To think this cannot be legal...
foxyliz26 · 16/07/2018 00:45

Oh that will be Lileth ! she is no trouble, she will only want to offer you an apple

KarlDilkington · 16/07/2018 00:53

@CatOwned wow that is beautiful! Dare I ask where your university is?

littlemssilly · 16/07/2018 01:10

Oh my god I wish I hadn't clicked on this before going to bed.
Massive phobia.

ToeToToe · 16/07/2018 01:13

Catowned - now that looks poisonous!

OP - that snake is a beauty, but I must admit I would Shock if I saw it in a park.

martinidry · 16/07/2018 01:14

"A colleague once told me that there was a guy who regularly walked around Brixton market with his pet snake."

That will have been a quite short, middle aged black gentleman, unless there are 2 men with snakes wandering around the Brixton market. He had a boa constrictor almost twice as long as he was tall.

HelenaDove · 16/07/2018 01:18

"I was a kid there used to be a bloke at the local seaside resort with a massive python which you could pay to have your photo taken with"

Was this snake Lucy at Walton on the Naze? DH remembers this.

I am not a snake person and completely freaked out when one got into our kitchen of our first floor flat three years ago.

The police will say the same thing they told me "not our job"

it was their job when the same kind of snake got into a Hampstead garden though

Kursk · 16/07/2018 01:31

CatOwned

Pretty sure that’s safe, “red touching yellow. Kill a fellow”

steff13 · 16/07/2018 01:45

Catowned - now that looks poisonous!

I don't think so. There's a saying - red next to yellow, bite a fellow, red next to black, venom lack. It's probably a king snake, often confused with coral snakes, which are very dangerous.

ShovingLeopard · 16/07/2018 02:00

Christ alive. It may not be illegal but it fucking should be. Gojng to have nightmares now.

SyrilSneer · 16/07/2018 02:02

Why did I click on this. I’m now convinced there is an escaped snake marauding around my house.
