DS1 13 months would not go to sleep tonight so DP took him in the pushchair for a walk. He came across an absolutely massive snake in the park. Someone had let him out of a large tank apparently (not in the pic). Lots of bystanders taking pics. I know people can have these in their homes, but in public??? Cannot be legal right?

I'm a regular but name changed as I knew people would ask where this was and obviously telling the location could be outing. This is in Roberts Park, Saltaire, West Yorkshire.

This is for real.

WTF?!!!!

To think this cannot be legal...

We saw someone walking a giant iguana (think 4 ft long) near our swimming pool a year or so ago - DS was thrilled! I guess if they're not venomous then ok, but a snake is bound to spook non-snake-lovers in a public place like a park.......Grin

Dd had a pet worm called Andy but even though she tried, it would never go for a walk with her.

Candyflip · 18/07/2018 05:41

Oh that is so cool!

Nagini Grin

steppemum · 18/07/2018 07:40

Upstart,
well we never had a close encounter with it, but we regularly found its discarded skin, and yes it was well over 1 metre

Leapfrog44 · 18/07/2018 08:30

What exactly are you worried about - the welfare of the snake or whether it's dangerous??

I doubt the snake is a risk to anyone except perhaps a sleeping mouse or rat, but I'd worry about how it's being looked after and by whom. I'd have called the RSPCA so they could check that the person is fit to look after animals.

For those who asked about the red and black snake I posted a few pages ago:
My university is in Brazil, so Yes, It's possible it was a coral snake. Snake experts do say don't trust the stripes when it comes to a possibly venomous snake.

JuJu2017 · 18/07/2018 15:53

Taking your snake for a walk, I’ve heard it all now lol

DGRossetti · 18/07/2018 16:06

How many snakes have killed people in Britain compared to how many dogs have?!

Never heard of anyone being killed by a snake in Britain. A quick google suggests 1975 ?

Grumpbum · 18/07/2018 16:37

One guy in Basingstoke died but it was all very suspicious

Nicknacky · 18/07/2018 18:14

Ooh I think I remember that one, he kept snakes and it sounded weird. So potentially one person killed by a snake.

CeridwensCottage · 18/07/2018 18:55

Dogs often bite people and there are regular reports of them killing young children, yet they can be found in parks all the time.

Cockadoodledooo · 18/07/2018 22:06

I just showed the picture to dh, he said "is that a white snake?" and now he's singing cheesy 80s rock songs at me. Cheers op Hmm

HippetyDippety · 19/07/2018 20:15

Errm...yes, @DGRossetti it's happened in Britain quite recently actually, maybe you're not Googling right

On the other hand, yes it's true that dogs are far bigger human killers than domestic snakes, also because they're a far more common pet to have.
