Supermarket Car Parks

AIBU to think it is incredibly selfish of people to take extra time to reverse their car into a parking space in a car park when it would take a fraction of the time to drive in front first. Usually there is a queue of traffic behind them waiting for them to slowly reverse in!!!! They couldn’t car less about wasting other people’s time. They live in their own SELFISH bubble.

Oh boy. Hope you have a thick skin op.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 15/07/2018 10:56

But then they'd be taking longer to reverse out and you'd still be delayed...

lanbro · 15/07/2018 10:56

ICJump · 15/07/2018 10:56

Hahahaha. It’s so it’s shit loads quicker to leave.

Blizzardagain · 15/07/2018 10:57

Maybe you should shop online OP....

HellenaHandbasket · 15/07/2018 10:58

Pmsl. Way safer to reverse in.

CrackerCrisp · 15/07/2018 11:00

Can you not reverse park OP?

c3pu · 15/07/2018 11:00

I go nose in to make it easier getting the shopping into the boot.

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 15/07/2018 11:01

Yabu. It’s safer to reverse in and quicker to leave.

KellyBailey · 15/07/2018 11:02

Jeez, chill out. Is waiting 30 seconds for someone to park really worth that level of annoyance.

Bluelonerose · 15/07/2018 11:02

Why would anyone reverse onto a space at the supermarket when they would need to put your shopping in the boot?

Unless you drive Herbie Grin

QuestionableMouse · 15/07/2018 11:03

I park nose in too, because I'm typically unloading a mobility scooter and trying to do it between cars is almost impossible.

The majority of people who reverse park seem to make a balls up of it!

CrackerCrisp · 15/07/2018 11:03

I reverse in because it’s safer than reversing out.

Pinkkahori · 15/07/2018 11:07

I don't really mind reverse parkers but in my local small shopping centre there is a huge multi story car park. Everyone seems to want to park on the ground floor even though there are plenty of lifts and escalators on the other levels.
The ground floor has the fewest spaces yet people go in and drive round and round and round incredibly slowly looking for spaces, holding up anyone who is leaving or who wants to get up to the next level.
If they see someone coming out with their shopping they sit and wait for them to load the car, return trolley, get in and drive off.
It winds me up no end - just drive up to the next level and get one of hundreds of spaces, easy.
And I know some people are nervous in multistories etc. but really this is a lot of people all the time.

patstar · 15/07/2018 11:07

Agreed, I always reverse in. I've seen people try to park front in and have to reverse a couple of times to get their car straight

SerenDippitty · 15/07/2018 11:07

In supermarkets it makes bugger all sense to reverse into a space if you are doing a big shop because it renders your boot inaccessible.

More generally, whether or not I reverse into a space in a car park depends on how much of a hurry I’m in, how busy the car park is and how much room there is to manoeuvre. I usually wouldn’t try to reverse into a space between two cars, especially if there are a lot of cars trying to get past. But if it’s quiet and plenty of space I will.

FatCow2018 · 15/07/2018 11:10

Having witnessed a toddler be run over by a car reversing out of a space, I always reverse in now. Tiny people fit nicely in blindspots Sad

Slartybartfast · 15/07/2018 11:12

it is better to reverse in so you can go out forwards without the risk of running people over

WhyBird2k · 15/07/2018 11:14

Our local Tesco has the "pavement" part of parking in the parent and child section so that if you reverse in your child and trolley are there, away from cars, while unpacking in to the boot. Then you return trolley. If I didn't reverse in I would be doing all this on the active part of the car park, it's much less safe. This may not be the layout of your car park OP but YABU, people have different reasons for how they want to park and as long as its within a space then they are within their rights!

LearningCrochetTipsNeeded · 15/07/2018 11:14

Safer to reverse in and drive out. I've seen too many people scrape cars by driving into spaces

Slartybartfast · 15/07/2018 11:15

they will hold you up when they reverse out, gradually, as well op

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 15/07/2018 11:17

I hate parking, so I park at the furthest end of the car park and find a space where I can drive through and into the space behind it, so I can drive straight out again when I’m done 👌

rotavixsucks · 15/07/2018 11:20

So they can see when they come to leave rather than reverse blindly out Hmm yes yabvu. I can reverse into a space quicker than I can drive into one.

FoxyBoxter · 15/07/2018 11:21

I always reverse in to park whatever the car park & what ever the pressure from other drivers. I will continue to smile and wave at those who wait for me to do so just in case it's ever you OP rolling your eyes at my free choice! HmmGrin

specialsubject · 15/07/2018 11:26

common sense and highway code 101. if it delays you, get your arse put of bed earlier.

somebody's toddler is only alive because I reverse park. the foolish mother let it scoot along the pavement unsupervised. had I reversed out I may not have seen it and would have.flattened it as it was too small to appear in the rear window. ok, her fault but on balance I am glad it didnt happen.

also much safer for general visibility. yes, makes loading harder but if you arent disabled or eligible for parent and child spaces it isnt a problem.
