Supermarket Car Parks

AIBU to think it is incredibly selfish of people to take extra time to reverse their car into a parking space in a car park when it would take a fraction of the time to drive in front first. Usually there is a queue of traffic behind them waiting for them to slowly reverse in!!!! They couldn’t car less about wasting other people’s time. They live in their own SELFISH bubble.

I always reverse in a spot. It's safer when driving out. I don't get the angst about waiting a few seconds for someone to reverse in either, really strange way of thinking. You're going shopping not parking up to catch a train!

NotMeNoNo · 15/07/2018 13:41

Reverse parking is safer and a lot of businesses insist in it in their private car parks. If people practised it more they would be quicker. Also much less likely to scrape the cars either side with your swinging bonnet.

Markymark20 · 15/07/2018 13:41

I didn’t say I was incapable of it, Ive never had an accident. I just CHOOSE not to be unaware that there are other people, maybe several, that are waiting behind to park. Very passive aggressive comments. What I didn’t say in the original post, is that 90% of the reverse parkers are women. I just wanted to see the reaction. I rest my case.

OP posts:
Sirzy · 15/07/2018 13:42

So how do you get out of the space? Confused

Markymark20 · 15/07/2018 13:47

But the reversing out would be staggered at different times and not holding up so many people.

OP posts:
gandalf456 · 15/07/2018 13:48

I don't care how people get into their spaces so long as they can just park it rather than take ages.

If I can't get into a space quickly and easily, I think it's good manners not to expect hslf the car park to wait several minutes and just choose a bigger space

AirForce0ne · 15/07/2018 13:48

I am well aware that other people want to park, most drivers don't end up on a supermarket car park because they enjoy the view. I am not sure why that should have any effect on how I park Hmm The idea is you indicate to warn them, you park safely and they carry on looking for the next available space themselves.

How is that too much to understand? I do love the attack against women to try to wind up as many female posters as possible, but reading your post, bad drivers are pretty gender neutral Grin

Sirzy · 15/07/2018 13:48

Staggered reversing out? What?

Markymark20 · 15/07/2018 13:49

Yes I can very well indeed. You’re missing the point. It’s about being aware of other people.

OP posts:
CandleWithHair · 15/07/2018 13:50

@markymark20 that literally makes no sense. People parking is also staggered, you blithering idiot.

Also, not sure what the implied sexist remark is about. So, 90% of the best parkers are women? Is that supposed to be an insult?

Raven88 · 15/07/2018 13:52

@Markymark20 but what's the difference between reversing out of a space and reversing in. Either what you have wait. It must be nice to have the energy to moan about parking

Raven88 · 15/07/2018 13:52

I meant either way you have to wait.

CandleWithHair · 15/07/2018 13:52

If there’s someone behind me, my only concern awareness wise is that they know what I’m about to do so there’s no chance of an accident. If they also happen to be some massively impatient twunt, like you, that’s really of no concern to me

AirForce0ne · 15/07/2018 13:54

It’s about being aware of other people.
so you don't park because there's someone behind, you keep going until there's an empty row and you have time to maneuver into the space? Yes, that will work! Grin

musicposy · 15/07/2018 13:57

If 90% of reverse parkers are women, women are better, safer drivers. They care more about those around them - because you can see pedestrians around you much easier when driving out - than making some bloke in a rush wait 10 seconds.

I can reverse or forward park in a flash, fwiw, but I tend to go for the safer option. Which is to reverse in.

Clutterbugsmum · 15/07/2018 13:57

I am aware of other drivers, people walking in carpark but that has fuck all to do with whether you reverse in or out of a parking space.

I prefer to reverse into a parking space, as I feel that it is safer to be able to see what happening when driving out of the space.

ErictheGuineaPig · 15/07/2018 14:00

The reversing out is staggered too you doofus. If people are leaving at different times they must have arrived at different times too. Dear oh dear, this is some of the most stupid shit I've ever read.

PositivelyPERF · 15/07/2018 14:01

I reverse park because I get fed up with the impatient wankers that are hurrying to find a space, and won’t give me time to get out, or stop too close so I have to watch their car, that’s usually up my arse, plus parked cars and wankers that insist on walking behind my car.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 15/07/2018 14:03

LOL - OP just wants to have a pop at women since they observed 90% of reverses are female Grin
Well, women are better drivers than men going by your observation Wink

tomhazard · 15/07/2018 14:04

My mind boggles that this could annoy somebody!! Reversing is often easier than driving into a space if it's tight to swing in.

Of all the things that I might find annoying in a given week this wouldn't even occur to me.

Tutlefru · 15/07/2018 14:06

Take a chill pill OP.

I reverse in. ALL THE TIME. Grin

PositivelyPERF · 15/07/2018 14:12

DrinkFeckArseGirls that’s it! 😆

Does that mean that 90% of impatient wankers are men? 😉

mateysmum · 15/07/2018 14:13

OP Unless your local car parks have turntables in every space, whichever direction people park in the same number of vehicles will have to enter the space one way and exit the other way.
Also unless your local car parks only allow simultaneous parking by all vehicles the parking and un- parking will happen at equally random times and spaces.
Reverse parking is normally much quicker than reversing out as visibilty is generally better/less potential hazards.
I really don't get your problem. You are not being logical.

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/07/2018 14:14

Marky
I take it your ego has been shattered. Oh dear. You’ve obviously never driven a large car otherwise you’d know it’s better to reverse into a space. Never mind. Maybe one day you’ll get a grown up car.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/07/2018 14:14

@Markymark20 - are you trying to sound like a sexist twunt? Because you are doing a jolly fine job of it, if so!

Bottom line is that it is better, safer driving to reverse park in a space so you can drive out forwards, and only a total idiot would get themselves in such a lather over waiting an extra moment or two, whilst someone does this.

To be honest, your posts make you sound like the sort of driver who thinks they own the road, and who is utterly intolerant of any other driver - which probably makes you a less safe driver. I am sure you think you are the best driver on the road - and I am sure you are wrong!
