Supermarket Car Parks

AIBU to think it is incredibly selfish of people to take extra time to reverse their car into a parking space in a car park when it would take a fraction of the time to drive in front first. Usually there is a queue of traffic behind them waiting for them to slowly reverse in!!!! They couldn’t car less about wasting other people’s time. They live in their own SELFISH bubble.

I drive in nose first because at the two local supermarkets I use, I wouldn't be able to get to my boot otherwise.

Also, I used to live in an area with beautiful dry stone walls where reverse parking was very much frowned upon as it damages the walls (don't ask me how) so I just got used to being able to reverse carefully out of spaces.

Any competent driver should be able to do either - reverse in or reverse out safely.

What really gets my goat is the drivers who hover behind you when you are packing up, indicating, even though there 974 other available spaces, but they just have to have the one I am in. I have been known to pack up my stuff and nonchalantly walk back into the store.

mrjoepike · 15/07/2018 14:16

in the us the " only on the back number plates" are only in a few states.and never found a place where its illegal to reverse park

InfiniteVariety · 15/07/2018 14:17

Only the front wheels of a car are moved by the steering wheel so this means you can turn in a tighter circle when you are reversing than when you are going forward. it is therefore easier to manoeuvre a car into a parking space whilst reversing rather than going forward.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 15/07/2018 14:17

But the reversing out would be staggered at different times and not holding up so many people.

Not necessarily true, depends how many people were exiting the car park.

DiegoMadonna · 15/07/2018 14:18

This doesn't make much sense. Are you saying that everybody who reverses in does it together at the same time?

Also lol at you thinking your Sunday morning is so important that you can't wait 30 seconds for someone to park. Get a grip.

humblesims · 15/07/2018 14:19

It’s about being aware of other people
No, its about people being aware of YOU. Your logic is flawed. I could just as easily state that you are selfish by not having the manners to wait for the few moments it takes to park.

HildaZelda · 15/07/2018 14:38

@Markymark20, dare I ask, can you parallel park? Grin

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 15/07/2018 14:41

you’re missing the point. It’s about being aware of other people.

Yes like those fuckers walking behind your car when you're trying to reverse out Wink

EnthusiasmWellAndTrulyCurbed · 15/07/2018 14:45

What I didn’t say in the original post, is that 90% of the reverse parkers are women. I just wanted to see the reaction. I rest my case

What case? That women are better drivers? That you are totes jelly that you can't reverse park? If you could, you'd know that it actually takes no more time to do. At least for those of us who can, you know, actually DO it Grin

helacells · 15/07/2018 15:01

YANBU only Wallys do that

Markymark20 · 15/07/2018 15:20

I have never witnessed anyone reverse parking into a space in one manoeuvre. Always backwards forwards backwards forwards then maybe slowly into space.............
I have seen many people go front first into a car parking space in one manoeuvre

OP posts:
Markymark20 · 15/07/2018 15:23

The post was not ever about driving ability at all. Interesting that so many people have become so very very defensive.
The original post was about selfishness and lack of awareness about other people.

MaisyPops · 15/07/2018 15:25

I always reverse in and drive out forwards. It's safer and easier to park (much better than people doing a funny shuffle thing when they go in forwards and aren't straight or in the bay).

ProperLavs · 15/07/2018 15:31

I have never seen anyone safely or competently reverse OUT of a space in a supermarket.
Christ knows where you've been driving OP.
Come and witness me reverse park in one manoeuvre, it's not bloody hard.

SoupDragon · 15/07/2018 15:35

I just CHOOSE not to be unaware that there are other people, maybe several, that are waiting behind to park.

And most people CHOOSE not to be an impatient twat who can’t wait for someone to park safely. Unlike you.

ProperLavs · 15/07/2018 15:35

This doesn't make much sense. Are you saying that everybody who reverses in does it together at the same time?

yes like synchronised swimming. Wink

SoupDragon · 15/07/2018 15:36

I have never witnessed anyone reverse parking into a space in one manoeuvre.

You clearly don’t get out much then.

Goldmandra · 15/07/2018 15:39

Given that reverse parking offers a smaller turning circle, that is highly unlikely.

This is a stunning example of confirmation bias.

Thiswayorthatway · 15/07/2018 15:45

Reverse in, forward out is quicker and safer than forward in, reverse out. End of.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 15/07/2018 15:49

The people reversing out of a parking space in one manouver are dangerous drivers! You need to creep and keep on doing the 6 point check! Anyone who just smoothly reverses out better pray there isn’t a small child behind their car they cannot see.

user56 · 15/07/2018 15:51

@Markymark20 I think there must be greater issues here if you let this get you so stressed!! Relax !! Or maybe go to the supermarket at a quiet time if you can't let this go

BrokenWing · 15/07/2018 15:51

I have absolutely no problems reverse parking, it can actually be easier than driving in if you don't get the angle right first time. Most of the posts here are irrelevant to the OP who is talking about supermarket car parks where most of the time it is impractical to reverse park when you need to hold onto a trolley with no brakes and load shopping into your boot.

FrangipaniBlue · 15/07/2018 15:55

It’s about being aware of other people.

Oh the fucking irony GrinGrin

You're a bit of a self centred twat really aren't you OP?

Bbbbbbbb2017 · 15/07/2018 15:57

The thing i dont get about reversing in is how you get your trolley down the back and the boot open with enough space. I go in forwards to make loading the shopping easier

ghostyslovesheets · 15/07/2018 16:04

I always reverse park - it take 30 secs tops - if you don't have the patience to wait for that long let your wife drive
