Just after people's opinions on how they'd feel living opposite a very busy adult escort. Living in a quiet cul de sac but our house is the only one that would directly be able to see what's going on (worked it out when off on maternity leave before baby was here, lots of time on my hands!)

Imagine you don't know what she does for a living...

What would you do if someone kept parking in your space (other than start a CF parking thread Grin)

You would knock on her door and say, "I'm not sure if you're aware, but that's our private parking space for our visitors. Would you mind asking your visitors not to park there? Thanks ever so much.................Oh, and by the way, can you ask your John's to zip up and belt before they leave your house as it affects my young children? Many thanks and toodle pip!" Grin

Soliciting hasn’t been decriminalised but is this truly what you want police resources to be spent on ? A website? Honestly? Where police have a vice unit they are typically concerned with large scale organised crime operations or brothels where there is potential for trafficking or child prostitutes to be working. The emphasis is much more on treating the workers as victims - although I’m sure there are plenty of sex workers who would disagree with that. Targeting One lady working discretely at home is not an appropriate use of police resources in my opinion.

FrancinePefko42 · 15/07/2018 22:20

I don’t go around challenging self employed people about their tax situation.

If HMRC were as laissez faire as you, I'm not sure it would help the funding situation of the UK's police services.

Vashna · 15/07/2018 22:21

Portia - yes it is a bit sad but common for listed buildings. Anyway this is not the point.

As I said earlier, I would view the running of a “mini brothel” opposite as anti-social behaviour on the part of this neighbour. If she was selling drugs from there, it’s the same. Who wants that opposite - legal or not?

jazzyfizzles · 15/07/2018 22:23

Just to point out I've never once mentioned police or HMRC involvement.

Agreed. Which is why I am suggesting calling the HMRC helpline in the first instance. No judgement, no morality, just checking to make sure they are aware that a residential property is being used for business purposes and that the government is getting it's slice.

All part of a decent functioning society.

I don't have the foggiest what you're blithering on about. I was responding to a comment that the neighbour wasn't doing anything illegal. To the best of my knowledge, soliciting IS illegal and I was curious to know whether it's legal status has changed.

I said nothing about how I felt the situation should be handled.

I know you haven't. The HMRC route was just a suggestion from me. Feel free to ignore if you don't think it helpful.

ButchyRestingFace · 15/07/2018 22:29

OP, could you erect some temp bollards in the parking space?

PortiaCastis · 15/07/2018 22:32

This is hysterical

Vashna · 15/07/2018 22:33

Spirited - I’m in London too and the police are up and down our road regularly every day. When there was a spate of organised car thieves monitoring residents to steal certain cars to order, the police parked in the street 24/7 for weeks. If residents complained of a prostiute operating from the street, I have no doubt the same thing would happen.

GossipLady · 15/07/2018 22:40

butchy she’s not soliciting. She’s having men visit her in her own home. Undoubtedly her website will say ‘time and companionship only’. How can you prove she’s having people round to pay her for sex (which isn’t illegal anyway).

Nicknacky · 15/07/2018 22:40

No, they really wouldn’t. Trust me.

There is a big difference from organised car crime and a woman selling sex in her own home.

Nicknacky · 15/07/2018 22:41

That was to vashna

ButchyRestingFace · 15/07/2018 22:43

Where does OP state what the website explicitly says? If there is no soliciting, then no crime, I agree.

But as I have already stated, I asked whether or not soliciting had been decriminalised - apparently it hasn't. And we don't know whether she is soliciting on the site or not.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 15/07/2018 22:43

Honestly, I wouldn’t be thrilled, I’ve read the sex worker AMA thread about if clients creep her out, are threatening or too rough then she chucks them out. My worry is then what happens? Does he just go home? Or would he be more likely to go looking locally for another woman to satisfy him/rape as I’m assuming he’d propbably be angry and horny. I’d prefer if women didn’t have to sell sex, but they do and I want them to be safe but not at the cost of other women’s safety. There was a story a while back about Jiaxin Cheng (she’s a famous musician married to Julian Lloyd Webber) and when a brothel was opened near her home she was accosted by a punter mistaking her for a prostitute. Yes it could have happened anywhere but I do think it’s more than coincidence that this happened to her close by to a brothel.

LMAO.

Sorry, OP. 🤣

PortiaCastis · 15/07/2018 22:48

Oh my it gets better I'm in fits of laughter now.

Sorry OP

Nicknacky · 15/07/2018 22:49

No good comes of snooping!

SpiritedLondon · 15/07/2018 22:49

No they wouldn’t. Cars been stolen to order by an organised gang is nothing the same as a woman working as a sex worker in her own home. The issue here is you don’t like It. It all likelihood there is a sex worker, a brothel or a gay sauna quite close to you now but you just don’t know about it. If not that then porn is being made or swingers are having parties. If you’re not being bothered by it then what issue do you have with it?

Justtheonequestion · 15/07/2018 22:50

Men who've just had sex with a prostitute are surely more likely to be hurrying home, and not hanging round the street. That wouldn't concern me imo. I also believe that sex workers probably live closer to each of us than we'd think.
I saw a recent TV programme saying there were 77000 sex workers in Britain. Bollocks. I bet there's more than that in London.
Live and let live I reckon OP.

And the ones that get turfed out because they’re creepy/abusive?

Vashna · 15/07/2018 22:55

Spirited - the point is the OP does know about it.

Not sure what your role is in the police but where I live I can absolutely assure you that people would not put up with this and they would kick up such a stink by whatever means necessary that she would get moved on.
