No real reason why!

I've always loved McQueen and Fairbanks.

Not sure about my favourite, but I love interesting and amusing names. Was doing some family history research in a cemetery with my partner yesterday and came across the marvellous Ambrose Shufflebottom!

Fanciedachange1 · 15/07/2018 04:31

I wouldn’t say i have a favourite but i have come across a De’Ath before and wouldve loved that name during my teen goth days! Though I’m not sure how it is pronounced!

My Christian name has 2 syllables and my maiden name just one. I always found that it sounded quite harsh and formal. I much prefer my married name which is 2 syllables although 3 would’ve had a nice sing songy sound to it!

Remembered some others I like (and have known real people with):

Greatorex
Pentecost
Cakebread
Hewson
Holden
Joester
Molyneux
Perfect (yes - I know a Mr Perfect!)

Wilde
Montgomery
Carmichael
Lawless

I like O’ and Mc surnames.

At university I knew an Edenborough and a Couperthwaite which I thought were pretty cool.

SabineUndine · 15/07/2018 05:40

I like Rutherford too. Also Orr, Mansell and Latimer.

catinboots9 · 15/07/2018 06:01

Michaelmas

Love the pronunciation 'mickle-mass'

catinboots9 · 15/07/2018 06:05

@Choccywoccyhooha

I was on a flight home from a French ski resort last year and the pilot announced himself over the tannoy - 'Captain Johnny Snowball'

I fell in love with him that second Grin

WittyJack · 15/07/2018 06:08

drinkwater - it’s so random!

Anything with hawk in it, sounds very imperious.

I once read a book with a character whose surname was mingay and loved it. Then minging/minger came into my playground and spoiled it!!

WittyJack · 15/07/2018 06:10

Oooh my name got a mention above 🤗

tattyheadsmum · 15/07/2018 06:45

My DH has a friend with the surname Greatorex, which I love.

sashh · 15/07/2018 06:48

Shingleton

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood

Do you also like Belvoir? You seem to like names that are pronounced nothing like they look.

I've known a French and a Murgatroyd. I was at school with a Drinkwater, Strawhair and Cunnie.

harrietm87 · 15/07/2018 07:44

Lots of these are brilliant!

I love the long Irish ones like O'Shaunessy and O'Seireadain.

Also Wolf, Wild, Willoughby.

EnglishRose13 · 15/07/2018 07:49

Rose as a surname.... it’s my partners surname.
I hope to be a Rose-double barrelled with my classic English/Welsh surname one day.

I have planned our future children’s names in my head, to fit with the surname. And it would fit in my daughter’s -from previous relationship - double barrelled name or as an extra middle name for her.

Highpeak · 15/07/2018 08:01

I like nature ones: Rivers, Holly, Berry, Rowan etc
My maiden name was boring so i have DHs name which is uncommon but shared with someone pretty famous so it doesn't get misspelled.
I was in a LTR with a Dutch guy, i had hoped to become mrs van x but it wasn't to be.

Skyejuly · 15/07/2018 08:04

Rivers
Woodville
Wildwood
Macfarlane

motortroll · 15/07/2018 08:14

I like my own surname. (Married name) it sounds really normal but is unusual enough that I was recognised as being related to a family member who lives on the other side of the world when I was at a work event the other day. Also it's a popular first name for girls in America randomly.....

But my maiden name is most special as my family are obviously awesome!!! Also unusual enough that if I used it it could be outing but there are semi famous people with my maiden name as a surname. You'd never use it as a first name though...

Being cryptic aside lol I like the surnames Digby and Kirby don't know why I just like the way they sound.

Synecdoche · 15/07/2018 08:17

I would like to be a Winter or Grey.

Shednik · 15/07/2018 08:18

I like Rose.

I have met a Toogood and a Dicwad.
