To think people queuing for build a bear are Fucking insane

Sorry if anyone else has mentioned this also I don't know if this is happening anywhere in the country but where I live they're doing a "pay your age for a bear" at build a bear.

People in my town were queueing for FIVE HOURS + with their children just to get a cheap bear. I think they're fucking stupid. I'm totally shocked that so many people were willing to wait that long for a Fucking bear.

AIBU?

it's Build-A-Bear who are fucking insane not seeing this coming!

Someone on the other thread pointed out that if you're a member of their "bonus club" (which you had to be to get the offer), your child can get one for their age every year on their birthday. So it's not a new thing.

A lot of companies do get surprised by these things, they need to realize that there is a huge culture now of "bargain grabbing" online. Any bargain. My friend runs a website that sells food for a niche group of people. One day she turned on her computer to find 6000 emails. Someone had noticed an offer on her site for some free samples and posted it to a FB group, it then circulated to bargain blogs, twitter, MSE, etc. She took the offer down, and got loads of vile abusive messages, sob stories, threats to sue. Because they couldn't get a few bits of free food.

WetsTheVet · 12/07/2018 22:17

YANBU. I saw hundreds of crying and miserable children being made to queue up in the heat today. For a fucking bear! Just buy them one for a quid and tell them it talks if they use their imagination, job done.

marylou1977 · 12/07/2018 22:28

*MaryShelley. You had a fun day with your friend, you got your bear, you don’t owe anyone any kind of explanation. Glad you had a good day.

LJdorothy · 12/07/2018 22:58

It's the parents complaining their kids were 'heartbroken' when they didn't get a bear. No they weren't. They were disappointed. And if instead of queuing for hours the parent had suggested going to the park instead, even the disappointment could have been avoided. They don't get that this whole situation has been self-inflicted.

LighthouseSouth · 12/07/2018 23:24

@NotSureThisIsWhatIWant

Seriously, we were in a shop that was giving out a free toy at the checkout. There was a choice of two types. The parents in front let their child dither for long enough for a long queue to gather. The queue got longer.... the checkout staff asked them politely to choose and they said "oh but she's in charge, it's her decision" and looked at us as if we would back them up while the queue got longer and longer.

I raised my eyebrow and said to their DD "oh I think the rabbit one is MUCH better". Her parents gave me evils. Grin

CadyHeron · 12/07/2018 23:46

Man on the radio just now: "It's digusting. You can't tell a three year old she can't have a bear."

Angry

Yes. Yes you can. OK,you don't just come out and say "you're not having one" but FFS, some common feckin sense.
Do not tell your kid you're queuing up to get them a bear if that's what you're insistent on doing.
If you get one, bonus. If you don't no-one's disappointed.
If you did tell them, you can say there weren't any left but let's go do something else nice instead.
Your kid can hear no every now and again without imploding or being traumatised. Confused

Dieu · 13/07/2018 00:00

Mental, absolutely mental. I can't imagine you'd get the country's finest waiting in those queues.
And surely the bargain is offset by waiting for hours with a bored and fractious child ...

PolkerrisBeach · 13/07/2018 08:16

Gosh, if your idea of a lovely day out is standing in a queue for 5 hours, I'd hate to hear your idea of a shit day out.

tigercub50 · 13/07/2018 08:44

I can’t believe a woman pulled another woman’s hair over a Disney toy! Crazy! I am growing to hate the society we have now. DD9 constantly asks for stuff because she sees the kids on YouTube being given ridiculous amounts. She nags me senseless for toys & don’t get me started on bloody stationery! Aaagh! I find it all depressing.

OutofTyme · 13/07/2018 16:01

Wait, who pulled someone's hair?! It's worrying how people can completely lose control over such unimportant things.

ICanOnlyLaugh · 13/07/2018 16:18

@themonkeymummy I read it in the Mail - Kla-Maydia - obviously went straight over their heads Grin

NurseryFightClub · 13/07/2018 16:51

I did, in fairness the queue didn't look very long it just moved very slowly. On the plus side the queue I was in was very friendly and all the kids played together whilst waiting. The staff were amazing they just didn't expect it!

Clionba · 13/07/2018 16:55

PolkerrisBeach 😂 😂!!
Maybe if your toddler is a "people watcher" it's ok!

pollymere · 13/07/2018 17:34

I got an email telling me that as a Club Member my dd can do this offer any time within her birth month...which just shows how pointless queuing was.

Oysterbabe · 13/07/2018 17:37

You'll only be able to get the birthday bear, which is a basic bear. This promotion was for any bear. I'd still rather have grated my face off than queue all day for it though.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 13/07/2018 17:38

Tbh I think very little of parents who made their children wait in a queue for that long in that heat. I walked past a queue that was half a mile long. That’s not even exaggerating. Crying toddlers everywhere stuck outside in the baking sun.

FissionChips · 13/07/2018 17:42

BAB have sent club members a £12 off coupon to spend in store, vaild untill August 31st.

greeneyedlulu · 13/07/2018 18:01

My bladder couldn't handle a queue that long Grin

ChrisNReed · 13/07/2018 18:10

We had people queuing for three hours to see some bit actor just out of drama school dressed as Peppa Pig. Beware the infant terrorist. It's TV that radicalises 'em. Does the government know? Well Trump does, he owns a TV channel.

Katherine2626 · 13/07/2018 19:05

I just don't get this. For the sake of a cheap bear they will waste a day of their lives, queuing in a mall...? This is on a par with people who queue for a week to get a cheap TV and have to fight for it .

Katherine2626 · 13/07/2018 19:06

It is infant madness I do agree. My very polite, reticent and well mannered neighbour ended up having a handbag fight in a local store over the last Tinky Winky years ago when her child desperately wanted one for Christmas.

LeeBee11 · 13/07/2018 19:13

I’d rather paid full price than stand queuing for hours. People must be mad

BakedBeans47 · 13/07/2018 19:14

Absolute madness. I live in Scotland where schools are off but I am incredulous that there were people down south keeping kids off school to queue to buy a teddy bear. As for abusing and assaulting staff members it’s despicable

I read something yesterday “Michelle, mum to 7 month old Hallie, said “once you’ve told them they’re getting a bear you can’t really say no”” wtf?! She’s 7 months old!

herecomesthsun · 13/07/2018 19:25

We spent £15 on a second hand build a bear complete with a vast wardrobe of accessories from a local shop.

DD 5 liked it so much it acquired a couple of mates on a 2 for £20 special offer, who then went into hibernation for Xmas and birthday. She loved putting the heart in etc.

DS 9 was guardedly interested, so DD and I went and got a couple of Star Wars bears on a 2 for £30 offer for his 10th birthday. He really loves them (but is too cool to tell his mates he still really likes teddies). In fact, he has brought Kylo and Rey on a couple of picnic get togethers- and the dads in the 40s think they are great.

herecomesthsun · 13/07/2018 19:26

but I gave it a wide wide berth yesterday
