Sorry if anyone else has mentioned this also I don't know if this is happening anywhere in the country but where I live they're doing a "pay your age for a bear" at build a bear.

People in my town were queueing for FIVE HOURS + with their children just to get a cheap bear. I think they're fucking stupid. I'm totally shocked that so many people were willing to wait that long for a Fucking bear.

AIBU?

My friend stood in a queue for 6 and a half hours to get 1 bear so she save 20 quid! I went to one. Saw the queue, did a U turn to the next closest toy shop. There were kids lying on the floor crying it was mental!

Timeisslippingaway · 12/07/2018 18:47

Agreed, bear factory was definitely better.

blackbirdbluebottle · 12/07/2018 18:50

Chuffing Norah 😂😂😂 those parents knew they took the risk of not getting a bear if they were near the back of the several hour queue

CadyHeron · 12/07/2018 18:54

OMG, it sounds like my idea of sheer hell! Grin If I was queuing by myself for 5 hours, fair enough, crack on might justify it for something like my inner geek and a comic convention or something like that lol
but FIVE HOURS in a queue with my kids over a ruddy bear?!
They can't even stand still for 5 bloody minutes never mind 5 hours - they'd have me go doolally that long.
Not fair on the kids really, must be so boring standing around Sad

TheMonkeyMummy · 12/07/2018 19:05

Consumerism at its absolute worst.

sanityisamyth · 12/07/2018 19:09

Bristol was 8 hours apparently. Insane to even bother going.

newroundhere · 12/07/2018 19:10

A PP mentioned it but here's the quote from the BBC article:

A mother in Milton Keynes said she had taken her five-year-old daughter out of school to ensure they could get in the queue for a discounted bear.

"She's only five, they're not really doing much in school that's important at that age," she said.

Shock Confused

LemonysSnicket · 12/07/2018 19:16

Five hours of my time is worth about £45 if I'd worked .... deffo not worth the price reduction lol

bridgetreilly · 12/07/2018 19:17

Man on the radio just now: "It's digusting. You can't tell a three year old she can't have a bear."

Um, yes, you can. That's being a parent. You see the huge queue (personally, I wouldn't have queued more than about 20 minutes) and you tell your child that you'll be doing something else instead today. What's disgusting is parents making small children stand in queues for hours just to save a few quid. People are awful.

posieperkinandpootle · 12/07/2018 19:41

I took my DD to the store in Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh, arrived about 10.30 and the queue was already huge. Spoke to woman near front who'd been there since 8 and still not in shop. DD said no one needs a teddy that badly. We had a nice cuppa, bought some books, watched the police trying to calm some of the aggrieved shoppers, came home and ordered the one she wanted (as opposed to being able to pick from the dregs that were left) online, found a £10 off discount code too, so paid bit more than her age but haven't aggravated my varicose veins from standing for 7 hours or been arrested so win/win.

ForalltheSaints · 12/07/2018 19:44

I am not shocked at all, given what people have been prepared to do at the time of January or other sales.

LighthouseSouth · 12/07/2018 19:46

@BertrandRussell

TheMonkeyMummy · 12/07/2018 20:23

What the hell has Ben Evans called his poor bairn???!!!! That has to be a wind up, surely????

TheMonkeyMummy · 12/07/2018 20:24

@honeybeeq please tell me that Ben Evans quote on Facebook isn't real. I am crying with laughter!

Nicknacky · 12/07/2018 20:25

You do realise he hasn’t called his kid chlamydia........obviously he is on the wind up!

TheMonkeyMummy · 12/07/2018 20:26

I was seriously hoping not... hahaha

Clionba · 12/07/2018 20:44

Dear god in heaven. 5 hours in a queue with a baby in a buggy??! Thinking it's a great day out? Consumerism gone mad. Some stores had to close because of the huge queues of angry people. Crazy.

halfwitpicker · 12/07/2018 20:45

Even if you earn a fiver an hour it's not worth it.

halfwitpicker · 12/07/2018 20:47

What a marketing ploy though

^

Good point.

TheMonkeyMummy · 12/07/2018 20:48

Exactly @halfwitpicker

It will have cleared out all the old stock from the back...

Haudyerwheesht · 12/07/2018 20:48

The Facebook page for BAB is funny and terrifying at the same time.

There was a mother earlier complaining she’d promised her daughter a bear. Her daughter has behavioural issues and will kick off when she can’t get a bear and it’s not fair etc etc . Well then, why promise something you can’t guarantee with a child who can’t cope with the uncertainty???

OutofTyme · 12/07/2018 20:54

Well I suppose it’s a bargain if you’re 2 years old. But that still doesn’t make any sense of queuing all day just to save £20.

DeadButDelicious · 12/07/2018 22:02

I've just checked my bonus club account and I've been sent a £12 off voucher. Not too shabby. We'll bob along in the next few days and get her a bear with that. It won't be a £1 but it won't break the bank either.

brizzledrizzle · 12/07/2018 22:07

I didn't agree with the woman who took her child out of school to get a bear, she just said that they don't do much in school when they are five Shock

NotSureThisIsWhatIWant · 12/07/2018 22:11

This is just ridiculous, does people ever say no to their kids nowadays? Joining a queue and stay in it the whole day? Who the hell is in charge? The parent or the toddler?

Absolutely bonkers.
