Sorry if anyone else has mentioned this also I don't know if this is happening anywhere in the country but where I live they're doing a "pay your age for a bear" at build a bear.

People in my town were queueing for FIVE HOURS + with their children just to get a cheap bear. I think they're fucking stupid. I'm totally shocked that so many people were willing to wait that long for a Fucking bear.

Nearly 5 hours to save 26 quid, on something that’s not worth 26 quid in the first place sounds bonkers to me.

But hey ho, each to their own and all that.

MsFrizzle · 12/07/2018 16:43

I queued much longer to meet a celebrity I adored.

That being said, it's not much of a bargain if you're already 24 Grin

Nicknacky · 12/07/2018 16:44

Wouldn't it make more sense to sell old toys, clothes or whatever, to make £25 then go make a proper experience of it?

I like BAB, we have about 7 and my eldest had her party there but for the kids the whole experience is what makes it fun.

Not spending hours in a queue no matter how much you try and dress that up as being fun!

liverbird10 · 12/07/2018 16:46

Just read about this nonsense on BBC news. One mum openly admitted to having kept her kid off school so they could go queue for a bear! Madness.

FissionChips · 12/07/2018 16:46

5 hour wait to get your 7 month old a bear?!
Don’t you have anything better to do with your time?Confused

ladyvimes · 12/07/2018 16:48

There is something a little bit sad about queuing for hours for a naff teddy bear for a toddler who doesn’t care either way.

NoelHeadbands · 12/07/2018 16:48

It’s not the queuing per se, it’s just such a long time for such little saving/ value.

Tartsamazeballs · 12/07/2018 16:49

3 hours here for a £20 bear... That's £6.67 per hour. Quickly decided my time was worth much more than that so turned around and fucked off 😂

CecilyNeville · 12/07/2018 16:51

It's a bit different to queueing for something like meeting someone you admire, or an autograph (if these are your interests) as those are experiences that money can't buy. Today, people queued all day to 'save' £25.

BaB must have known this would happen, but they aren't obliged to meet demand if they 'run out of stock' as some seem to have done, and I guess they see it as a loss leading bit of good publicity. All it's done from my perspective is remind me how insanely expensive it is! DS has a BaB dog, but it was from a birthday party, so I didn't have to pick up the bill.

ItsNachoCheese · 12/07/2018 16:52

I will admit i went to intu braehead for the bab event today but when we got there it was a 5hr wait. Im sorry but no bear is worth that long a wait

Littlechocola · 12/07/2018 16:53

I find it as crude as the Black Friday sales. I hate what society has become.

Hillarious · 12/07/2018 16:53

Didn't even have to wait five hours to get into Wimbledon that time we queued.

Sirzy · 12/07/2018 16:56

I bet most of the savings end up being spent on car parking, food to keep the kids quiet and tat for the bear to wear anyway!

PrincessoftheSea · 12/07/2018 17:00

When you do promotions like this, you know exactly the type of people who will turn up.

FlyingDandelionSeed · 12/07/2018 17:03

"But surely, if you'd have worked those hours you'd have made more than enough money to pay for a bear?"

Please tell me the unskilled job I can do with my toddler in tow, in flexible hours I choose, that will earn me £25 for a few hours work.

I didn't queue for this as there's no build a Bear local to me, and I couldn't have afforded to travel to one. If there had been one local I absolutely would have done it. Easy to be sneery about 'cheap bears' when you have plenty of money to buy your kids toys.

SellFridges · 12/07/2018 17:03

So many people place so little value on their time.

It’s why I get my shopping delivered rather than traipse round Aldi.

coolncalm · 12/07/2018 17:08

My dd once worked for them. They paid crap wages and she was on zero hours contract. I think they presume it's an honour to work for them.

woodenblock · 12/07/2018 17:10

@FlyingDandelionSeed

I can't afford BaB for my kids I'm on a very low income. Not being sneery just think it's ridiculous to wait so long for a teddy. And like one person commented (sorry I can't find the reply now) most of the fun is choosing the accessories etc. Which are not included in the price

Wondering if a lot are planning to sell the bears on? No other reason to subject your child to this

Metoodear · 12/07/2018 17:11

It’s because it’s pay your age

My friend paid £3 for hers

Metoodear · 12/07/2018 17:13

woodenblock

It’s pay your Age it’s a promotion so it’s very likey if you signned up you would of been able to get one to put away fro Christmas

I am on a bargain Facebook group

MaryShelley1818 · 12/07/2018 17:13

I don’t need/want to sell anything to buy a bear though. I wouldn’t pay £27 for one! For £1 it was a bargain.

As for not having anything better to do - what an ott thing to say. I’m on Maternity Leave for a year - 52 entire weeks! Today I spent just over 4.5hrs with my friend and our babies having a genuinely lovely day while we happened to queue for a Teddy for him at the same time.
I don’t need to ‘try’ and justify it, baby had a fab day and hasn’t stopped smiling all day (he’s luckily young enough to not know we were in a queue).
Honestly there’s some incredibly miserable people on here if this is something you can get so aggressive about.

DitheringBlidiot · 12/07/2018 17:13

They’re crazy for queuing as long as they did/are and some of the comments on social media are BIZARRE. People really going off on one at build a bear. Would be funny if not so scary!

FissionChips · 12/07/2018 17:14

Easy to be sneery about 'cheap bears' when you have plenty of money to buy your kids toys

If money is tight then don’t shop at BAB, the accessories for the teddy cost a fortune .

The poundshop have perfectly nice teddies usually, Argos often have soft toys on clearance.

CanaBanana · 12/07/2018 17:16

I arrived before the store opened and the queue was already estimated at 4hrs, and even if I waited they couldn't guarantee there'd be any bears left by the time I got to the front. Kids were screaming and there was a fist fight when one dad accused another of trying to push in the queue.

It was dangerous so we left and went to Disney Store where shoppers were stripping the shelves of teddies to pacify their disappointed kids. The queue to get served was half an hour and I witnessed one mum pulling another mum's hair to make her let go of the last Mickey toy. We gave up and just went shopping.

Passed by Build a Bear on my way home after lunch and it was awful to see all the miserable children crying because their parents were forcing them to queue for several hours to save a measly £20. Little kids were fainting because they'd been standing for too long. Babies were being breastfed on the pavement and having nappies changed in their prams. Older kids had toileted on the pavement. Police were present to keep order (waste of police time). Local shops were handling out free water and sweets.

Imo if you put your kids through that for a toy then you seriously need to reconsider your parenting strategy!
