Sorry if anyone else has mentioned this also I don't know if this is happening anywhere in the country but where I live they're doing a "pay your age for a bear" at build a bear.

People in my town were queueing for FIVE HOURS + with their children just to get a cheap bear. I think they're fucking stupid. I'm totally shocked that so many people were willing to wait that long for a Fucking bear.

AIBU?

Daydreamer7 your point about people on benefits queehng for bears was so wildly beside the point that it can only be the remark of someone who is obsessed by people faking illnesses for benefits they are not entitled to.
It is a queue.
There may well be people claiming sick benefit in there.
There are also lots of other people who don't.

It happens when there are more than 2 people standing around that some of them may be in receipt of benefits and have an aboslute right to do so.

It is also worth mentioning that what people on sickness benefit and what queue they might like to stand in is absolutely none of your fucking business.

To be pedantic, a lot of the photos in the Daily Mail(sorry) were not of bears.
I expect most of the children already had a cuddly bedtime toy.

glueandstick · 12/07/2018 15:35

Popped by ours early this morning as meeting a friend. Took one look and thought ‘fuck that’ the people at the back of the queue now are apparently not guaranteed to be in by 9pm.

Fucking nuts.

HildaZelda · 12/07/2018 15:40

I think it's absolutely insane, especially when the bear itself is probably the cheapest part. It's all the overpriced accessories that bump up the cost.
I feel very very sorry for the staff.

Racecardriver · 12/07/2018 15:40

I would totally pop in and get one for the kids because it would be fun but I would never que up for a cheap toy. It takes all the fun out of the buildabear thing and I can get a Teddy for 2 quid on amazon so why? There must be something very wrong with all these people lining up and actually attack people over teddies.

Redglitter · 12/07/2018 15:44

The 3 branches near me are apparently quoting 7 hour waits. You'd need to be worse than daft to queue that long for a bear

blackbirdbluebottle · 12/07/2018 15:44

So what if they want to spend their time queuing. Your question should be AIBU to think that build a bears prices are ridiculous because those bears are extortionate! I don’t think any primary school kids are going just younger ones so why not let them get a bear for a couple of quid. Especially if the parents are skint!

TeenTimesTwo · 12/07/2018 15:45

DH reckons that B-a-B must have cash flow issues to be doing this promotion. He can't see any other good reason for it. What do you think?

Amanduh · 12/07/2018 15:45

The queue here about 10.30ish was an hour. Not that bad for someone who can get a lovely much wished for present for a few pounds that they’d otherwise never be able to afford. I wouldn’t queue for concerts or an iphone but plenty do. I can’t get offended by someone choosing to queue for something they like! I certainly wouldn’t be angry swearing about it!

Bibesia · 12/07/2018 15:47

I love the irony of Daydreamer7 and her workmates allegedly being in fits of laughter over this rather than doing the work they're paid to do.

PolkerrisBeach · 12/07/2018 15:50

Consumerism at its best.

Nobody needs a teddy bear. it's not like they're queuing up for food to feed the family. They're standing in line for an overpriced piece of tat which they will spend more than they've saved in similarly overpriced accessories.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

Peanutbuttercups21 · 12/07/2018 15:51

I don't understand how people can afford the time

Yes, you save money, like...£20 (on something you don't need)

But surely, if you'd have worked those hours you'd have made more than enough money to pay for a bear?

Say you work for £15 an hour. In those 4 hours of queueing you've missed out on earning £60 ...all to save £20

and those 4 hours have not been fun! Less fun than work anyway (IMO)

Emmasmum2013 · 12/07/2018 15:52

I hope they all go to kids and don't end up on eBay Confused

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 12/07/2018 15:52

Dh is an electrician in a shopping centre and text me a photo of the queue at 9am. Fucking batshit. I like the idea of build a bear but not a fucking chance am I going to wait in line for hours!

hammeringinmyhead · 12/07/2018 15:54

Everyone I know who was going was a SAHM to a baby or toddler. No wages missed out on.

buzz91 · 12/07/2018 15:55

I went, saw the queue and decided against it. I read that they do a similar promotion in your birthday month, pay how old you’re turning. Gonna be much less busy and I still get a bargain

Wames90 · 12/07/2018 15:55

Definitely not being unreasonable, and as someone else has said - they aren’t that massively expensive anyway! Plus I read somewhere that in the child’s birth month they can have one for the price of their age so why not go when it’ll be much quieter if you’re that desperate for a saving?!

KittyB52 · 12/07/2018 15:55

I didn’t know what it was, the queue was the length of one stretch of our shopping centre. I thought there was a celebrity visiting.

I texted DH who told me it was Build a Bear’s ‘pay your age day’, to which I replied “£45 for a bear?” In my defence, I am coming down with a cold and was half asleep. Grin

So many small, crying children in one place. Hmm

Oysterbabe · 12/07/2018 15:58

The birthday bears are just a simple bear but with this promotion you can choose any bear, not that I think that makes queuing worth it at all.

Travis1 · 12/07/2018 16:03

It is just reminiscent of the Black Friday promotions, it was never going to end well!

Curtainshopping · 12/07/2018 16:03

Do we think Build-A-Bear should take any blame, out of interest? I mean, would they have had a way of knowing how many people were going to turn up?
