To wonder why we aren't rioting in the streets?

So:
The government is about to begin stockpiling processed food in case the country is plunged into chaos by a “no deal” Brexit.
In just over half a year the UK is going to be wrecked for decades to come. We're looking at rationing, for God's sake. Power cuts. Mass unemployment. The loss of our employment and human rights. The new Health Secretary has allegedly received 10s of 1000s from the head of a thinktank that wants to abolish the NHS. There is no plan for the future. Not even the most ardent of the Brexiter politicians that got us into this mess are pretending that we aren't looking at massive economic and social problems.
Isn't it time for us as ordinary citizens who, with our children, will pay for this fiasco to start demonstrating, meeting our MPs, doing anything else that might possibly help to stop this? I don't just mean the demonstration that took place in London, and the others around the country - I mean serious numbers of people, making their voices heard. Because we will all suffer the very serious consequences of this mess.

If you were daydreaming and a thought of hitting yourself on the head with a hammer bame up. By the time you had fetched a hammer, would you go through with it?
The 12 point plan that Mrs may produced on Mondat is not deliverable. Whatever she may write and say 27 other countries have to agree with it and ANYTHING that detracts from the 4 guiding principles of the EU (that we helped create ) will be rejected.
IF the UK 'crashes out' with no deal then as of Brexit morning ALL ships and aeroplanes will be grounded as the certifications for their legal operation (and hence insurance etc) is tied up with the EIU and will become null and void. ANY MP who is actually interested in their constituencies rather than self interest will be seriously struggling to maintain a positioon of 'leave' as there is no way it can be as good for the UK as the slogans bandied around suggested.

Danniz · 11/07/2018 23:10

You're seriously comparing coming together to get through World War II with doing and saying nothing while our own government of its own volition wrecks the country?

Well as most MNers think that processed food is evil personified and never touch it .............it wont be a problem will it Smile

54321go · 11/07/2018 23:15

{I don't know how they're going to stockpile food when in my local supermarket there's only tinned food with a shelflife of longer than three or four days!}
Tinned and dried foodstuffs have at least a year or two 'shelf life'.
Either you are shopping in a dodgy shop that is finding ancient stock or you need to brish up on how to read date codes.

keyboardkate · 11/07/2018 23:16

True that no one understands Brexit.

OMG even our elected reps don't.

Should be a good outcome as a result. Yikes!

Pinook · 11/07/2018 23:16

Brexiters such as Mogg, Redwood and others are far right who see how the rich can make a financial killing from Brexit prey to the markets if we are cut off from the EU. They don’t care about most of the population. Just shoring up power for their privileged circle.

Danniz · 11/07/2018 23:19

The government has done everything it can to hide the extremely high cost of Brexit from the public. But people need to know. They can then at least start to stockpile for their families.

The fact JRM and others have moved their buisinesses out of the UK should suggest something is not right, if nothing else.

InfiniteVariety · 11/07/2018 23:23

They can then at least start to stockpile for their families

You are getting sillier & sillier OP. Go and have a lie down.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 11/07/2018 23:24

OP are you a brexiter?

biscuitmillionaire · 11/07/2018 23:32

The source is the Sun. But it's also reported in inews.co.uk so it must be true. Except that if you read the article carefully, it's saying that the source of the information about a plan to stockpile food is....

the Sun.

And if you read between the lines, the reason for this contingency plan, if it even exists yet, is to try to convince the EU negotiators that we're prepared to leave with no deal if necessary. So it's a negotiation strategy, like playing chicken. Where would the government even store millions of tins and packets of food? How could they logistically do this? It's absurd.

(By the way, I voted remain.)

Antigonads · 11/07/2018 23:37

I can't understand why the people who voted for Brexit aren't demonstrating.

Danniz · 11/07/2018 23:38

So the government is playing chicken with the lives of its citizens?

And what if the EU doesn't back down (which it won't and in fact can't, because of its own rules, and the fact that 27 countries are involved).
Are you saying that the government isn't in fact stockpiling, but is just pretending to? If that's the case, we should certainly be stockpiling for ourselves.

Op is your real name Chicken Little?
Read the children’s story and realise that you may be overreacting

Danniz · 11/07/2018 23:41

You do realise that the middle one of 3 scenarios produced by David Davis' department around the likely consequences of a no deal Brexit said that supermarkets would run out of food within a week? And medicines and petrol would run out soon after? We are not allowed to see those government publications. We just have to wait until Brexit actually happens, and experience the consequences.

keyboardkate · 11/07/2018 23:45

There is so much arrogance and hubris around now, it is a bit unreal for most of us I think.,

We (well me) just want certainty now.

Not hopeful though at the moment though.

FootballCoaching · 11/07/2018 23:48

Typical MC Momentum, self ID, self stockpile, me me me, I am fab, look at them they are horrid!

No thought for the vulnerable.

Danniz · 11/07/2018 23:54

We need people to know what is likely to happen, so that they are not hit by it with no chance to prepare themselves. Is that such an outrageous thing to say? If the government actually does bother to stockpile, that can then be directed at the poor and vulnerable who are not able to do it for themselves. Why do some of you believe that the people of the UK should be kept completely in the dark about what is happening? Scared that they might actually try to do something to stop it from happening?

OP posts:
AfterSchoolWorry · 11/07/2018 23:56

What are you on about? The immediate danger of rioting is disgruntled football fans.

MimpiDreams · 12/07/2018 00:00

I thought the head of the NHS said on the Marr show the other day that they were now stockpiling medicines.

keyboardkate · 12/07/2018 00:03

All of this is so unnecessary.

Being inside the tent is what should have happened, and reforms would have been organised in time.

How long will it take us to organise a Brexit with all the bells and whistles that have been promised. Jeez

Madein1995 · 12/07/2018 00:03

personally I can't see it being anywhere near as dramatic as that - it's leaving the eu not entering into ww3 where we can't get food in cos the ships are being sunk

And even if it does happen, brexit won't happen until next year. 6 months is a lot of time for anyone to wind themselves into a tizz about food shortages. Campaign if you want to but no point panicking. Just cross that bridge when we come to it, panicking won't solve things anyway

I say this as someone who voted to stay

MunchMunch · 12/07/2018 00:06

Sky news ran this story earlier but it seems to have disappeared off the app and the Facebook posts.

Danniz · 12/07/2018 00:11

When Brexit happens in March the planes simply won't fly at all - they won't be allowed to. They will no longer comply with safety agreements, etc.
