I'm Scottish and am disappointed England are out! A very good team of hardworking young guys without any big egos dominating and a manager who will be remembered as calm, gracious and kind. Great role models for young men.

Cutietips · 11/07/2018 22:58

Enthymeme fgs please don’t judge English people by Piers Morgan. Christ that’s like, likening all Americans to Trump, all Russians to Putin etc. He’s vile.

I’ve never, ever heard an English person talking about Jonny Foreigner, so where did that come from. If you want to enjoy people having a go at an entire nation, go to the BBC Facebook page. People from all over the world piling in. I like the ‘coming home’ song cos it’s catchy. But largely sending ourselves up because we know we’ve been largely rubbish since 1966. And most people were amazed we got this far.

Actually a lot of us feel pretty shit at the moment because of a terrible Brexit we didn’t want and is another stick to beat us with. And a complete joke of a government. But yeah, it’s ok to have a go, cos yeah empire (happened years before we were born), Brexit (46% of us didn’t want and 69% where I live, which is higher than Scotland), and Iraq war (which we also didn’t want).
It was just nice to be cheered up for a bit. Never thought winning a few matches in a football tournament really made us better than anyone else. Just made us feel a tiny bit more cheerful.

dontbesillyhenry · 11/07/2018 22:58

Yep mags because all people who support their team behave exactly the same way don't they 🙄

PolkaHots · 11/07/2018 22:58

I think it’s a real shame.

tigercub50 · 11/07/2018 22:59

Not gutted but disappointed - it’s been great over the last few weeks & England’s progress has brought people together. I was the same as a pp - once Croatia scored, I kind of knew we weren’t going to make it. The team does seem fresher & different in attitude to previous squads, where you got the feeling they had been cobbled together & weren’t all that bothered.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/07/2018 23:00

Just because you don't like football doesn't mean that it funny or clever to be so happy that many many people are upset

Where did I say I was happy that many are upset - far less that it's "funny or clever" to feel that way?

Do try not to let your disappointment blind you to what's actually been written

JacquesHammer · 11/07/2018 23:00

That's telling, IMO.

Well it’s telling in that it appears to indicate your colleagues don’t have the sort of critical thinking to work out England fans aren’t a homogenous mass...

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 11/07/2018 23:01

Modrić has been one of the best players this tournament and definitely deserves to be in the final as he will probably be retired in four years.

Just listening to the ambulances and police cars going past my bedroom now, some English fans can be so depressing. Our team was brilliant though and got as far as they could. Have loved them this year, so much better than watching Terry et al.

JacquesHammer · 11/07/2018 23:02

Agreed although didn’t think he was as in song tonight, we wondered if he was carrying a slight knock.

SharronNeedles · 11/07/2018 23:03

Gordon it does apply to them too... Did I say it didn't?

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 11/07/2018 23:04

In a way yes but soon we we missed those chances you knew. 2 shots on goal wasn't like we had loads and loads and they won on a fluke.. Did well to get this far so nah!

Still don't think we'd beaten France which been more gutting.

SharronNeedles · 11/07/2018 23:06

FatSally so do you work purely because you love what you do and take no financial reward for it?

Costacoffeeplease · 11/07/2018 23:06

All people from England must be very proud.

Really? Have to? Confused

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/07/2018 23:06

Theres a thread out there about someone’s son and ex smashing up stuff and swearing at her. Over a ball game

Yes I saw it ... apparently loads of police are attending a massive fight which has broken out at my local pub too Sad

Maybe this would be a good time to encourage folk to check on anyone they believe to be at risk tomorrow?

ScreamingValenta · 11/07/2018 23:08

@JacquesHammer This is probably because they're sick of having football thrust down their throats in unavoidable situations, such as at work, and want to vent their frustrations. It's also annoying for people who follow serials on television; e.g. my elderly MIL follows all the popular soap operas, and was complaining to me yesterday that she keeps missing episodes because she finds the 'if ITV show such and such a match the schedule will be this ...' confusing in her TV magazine guide.

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 11/07/2018 23:08

JacquesHammer could be. Hopefully he'll recover in time, would be gutting for him if he misses it.
It's been a great tournament though with lots of surprises. The two best teams are in the final, looking forward to seeing it.

MadMags · 11/07/2018 23:10

It was a general discussion about how the English media, and English people on social media have a knack for smug fuckery that nobody else seems to possess.

It wasn't an assumption that you're all violent thugs though, again, it always seems to be English fans who act the worst at tournaments. A shame for the nice, normal people but seems to be enough of the bad ones to gain you a reputation as a nation, which is sad really.

BrewDoggy · 11/07/2018 23:10

Yup gutted. But at least they played positive football and made the country excited again. Well done to them. Much better than Beckham/Rooney era. I dont get the comment about arrogance. Dont think the team has been arrogant. What's arrogant about daring to dream big?

PinkCrystal · 11/07/2018 23:10

Yes. But They did us proud.

RoseWhiteTips · 11/07/2018 23:11

chrysalis7

Fuk Da Haterzzzzz

Bet they have been sitting there for a month waiting for this moment so they could spit their venom.. mwah ha ha ha.

Sad fucks. grin

Gosh. You sound like a fine representative of the English nation.

GrumpyOldMare · 11/07/2018 23:11

Not gutted. Not proud of them - they only played a game for crying out loud, they're not heros, just big kids being paid shed loads for kicking a ball about.

psychomath · 11/07/2018 23:12

I'm not! It's a shame they didn't make it to the final and prolong the positivity for a few more days, although to be quite honest I think they'd have had a hard time beating France. BUT I was born in the 90s, and since I've been old enough to follow international football I don't remember a time I ever felt proud of my national team until now. (My earliest memory of the game is of watching England play Brazil in my primary school in 2002, and supporting Brazil because England were shite Grin) I'm just happy to have been able to cheer on my country like everyone else in the tournament without having to be vaguely embarrassed at having a team full of overhyped, egotistic tossers. Bring on the Euros!

OMFL · 11/07/2018 23:12

Not at all. Won every game so far! ££££

Cutietips · 11/07/2018 23:13

Costacoffeeplease I don’t think it means they have to be in that context. Just are likely to be. No obligation required.
