You missed the Russian fans attack on the Liverpool fans then Mags?

cardibach · 11/07/2018 23:14

mydog Just because you don't like football doesn't mean that it funny or clever to be so happy that many many people are upset
I quite agree. And yet football fans in this thread write things like Hope France win now they will kill Croatia
So it’s ok to be happy that many Croatians will be upset? In fact to actively wish it?
I understand being gutted when you are ina competition and you lose - I mean when you are actually in it, competing. I don’t get being so gutted about people you don’t know losing. I have empathy for them. Don’t see how it affects me.
Also this Because people seem to think it makes them interesting to not like something popular is total bollocks. People like different things. I don’t hate football. I don’t seek attention by not following it (bizarre idea). Mostly people wouldn’t know. I just don’t like it. I find it dull.

InfiniteVariety · 11/07/2018 23:15

Football didn't quite come home - it reached the garden gate but didn't make it up the path to the front door

LarryFreakinStylinson · 11/07/2018 23:16

Yep I’m gutted and I’ve got an 8 year old boy who I’ve put to bed with tear stained cheeks after his first real taste of footballing disappointment. But we’ll brush ourselves off and move forward and hope to go one step further next time.

KS34 · 11/07/2018 23:17

Yes, gutted. Like I was in 1990 when I was 12. Now I'm 40, maybe I'll be 68 before England reach another world cup semi final. But if anyone had said beforehand England would have reached the semis I think most people would have taken that. I really don't think many people would have expected us to do so well. I don't recognise the entitled/arrogant attitude some people imagine exists.

tiddliewinkiewoo · 11/07/2018 23:18

Not gutted no, disappointed yes. Proud yes. We are a big footballing family - my son was scouted to play in America and went across but hated it - he plays semi pro football now. I love how most people in England have had smiles on their faces the last few weeks rather than dwelling on all the negative crap going on in the world today.

And now I'll be rooting along with my family on Saturday for England to beat Belgium and become the third best team in the world Grin

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 11/07/2018 23:18

Plus the whole pass it back back back to Pickford who'd hoof it up the field where it just ended up going back to Croatia.. Better team for 45 mins they were better for the rest. Shame but its been coming

tor8181 · 11/07/2018 23:18

anyone else on the i dont give a flying fuck about sports bus?(im welsh btw)

MadMags · 11/07/2018 23:19

Sorry, henry - most of the time it seems to be England fans. I could be wrong, of course. That's just what I've seen/read/heard.

BillywigSting · 11/07/2018 23:20

No, I always thought it was a case of when not if we would be knocked out.

They've played well and over achieved so I'm really quite impressed with the lot of them. Yes the final would have been nice but they've still done very well.

MadMags · 11/07/2018 23:20

I don't recognise the entitled/arrogant attitude some people imagine exists

Oh, the irony Grin

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 11/07/2018 23:22

England were woeful in 2002!

I'm gutted and I'm not even English but I live here and it's been so nice to see people get happy and hopeful about something - anything! - in a sea of Brexit/food banks/rail chaos bullshit etc. It was like an escapist little dream.

Croatia were the better team though and actually I think they have a chance against France, especially if Modric is on form. Agree that he wasn't tonight but he's been amazing during the rest of the tournament - finding places and opportunities out of what seems to be nowhere in a way you can only do if you've built up the experience he has. And he'll know this is likely his last gasp, so he'll be determined.

No, though to be fair I'd be on the same bus as you if Welsh - what sport do you excel in? Grin

KS34 · 11/07/2018 23:26

MadMags no, can't see any irony. Not among any of the football fans I know. For God's sake, when have England ever won anything? 1966, before many supporters were born, so who on earth expects them to win? The joy was in unexpectedly doing so well. Perhaps you're confusing the attitude of the press with the attitude of the average fan.

KS34 · 11/07/2018 23:26

Ps do you know what irony means?

MadMags · 11/07/2018 23:27

You don't think it ironic that you arrogantly claim the arrogance doesn't exist and people have imagined it? Right so!

KS34 · 11/07/2018 23:29

No, not seeing the arrogance. I don't see it among anyone I know. We all hoped we'd win, deep down knew it was unlikely. Fail to see the arrogance in that.

KS34 · 11/07/2018 23:29

But God it was fun while it lasted!

ScreamingValenta · 11/07/2018 23:29

Question for the England fans - my understanding is that there's to be a match to determine third place at the weekend - are you not looking forward to this? Coming third out of all the teams that entered the tournament would be a good achievement, surely? Yet, no one seems to be talking about this (apologies, however, if I have missed a trending thread on the subject Grin )

chickedychicked · 11/07/2018 23:30

absolutely heartbroken.

tor8181 · 11/07/2018 23:31

anyone else on the i dont give a flying fuck about sports bus?

im so glad its over, the way people(minority i know)use it as a excuse for celebration violence is discussing

KS34 · 11/07/2018 23:31

I think the main thing is getting to the semis, coming 3rd or 4th not such a huge difference. Nice to win of course, but semis are the main thing.

hmcAsWas · 11/07/2018 23:32

Not gutted. I'm a football fan - season ticket holder and both the dc play football. I know all too well that football is unpredictable. Impressed that England got to the final four and enjoyed their professionalism, commitment and fair play.

Will be supporting Croatia in the final

MadMags · 11/07/2018 23:33

I don't see it among anyone I know.

Do you think there's a teeny, tiny possibility that other people might have been arrogant? Even some of the millions of people that you don't personally know?

It's a stretch, I'll grant you...

IcedPurple · 11/07/2018 23:34

ScreamingValenta

The 3rd place play-off is universally regarded as meaningless, a pointless chore the players are obliged to go through with even though they'd much prefer to go home. Jurgen Klinsmann (ex Germany international) said he hated having to play in one. It seems to just remind the players of what might have been.
