but why be happy about them losing and why do they feel the need to laugh at the people who do care?

Because people seem to think it makes them interesting to not like something popular

dontbesillyhenry · 11/07/2018 22:46

Yes gutted.
And that doesn't mean I'm going to smash an ambulance up like some numpty upthread suggested.
I've also lost a god daughter and had a relative critically ill recently so know all about perspective thanks but being so close to winning such a major event is gutting, for many of us anyway

inlectorecumbit · 11/07/2018 22:47

Nope

tissuesosoft · 11/07/2018 22:48

It’s disappointing that England are out of the World Cup but just to put this out there-

Gutted ... are you?
LEMtheoriginal · 11/07/2018 22:48

I predicted Croatia to win when i saw them in the first round.

I am proud of the players and feel we played honourably

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 11/07/2018 22:48

So I’m gutted they didn’t win, but they’ve done incredibly well to get that far, Croatia played well and they just beat us to it.... hope they go on to win now, they’ve been the underdogs. Our boys are all heroes in my eyes, they just need to work hard for the euros now 👏🏼

igetalong · 11/07/2018 22:49

thick the vitriol fans and media have spewed in every tournament in recent memory when you crash out is embarassing. Have you forgotten the headlines when Iceland put you out?

Your problem is you expect but nothing in your recent history gives you cause to.

OliviaStabler · 11/07/2018 22:49

Yes. I am not a football fan but did watch and was so upset for our guys. The other team simply stepped it up a notch after half time and we did not. We played really well but were outdone.

Iloveacurry · 11/07/2018 22:49

Yes, a bit gutted.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/07/2018 22:51

I agree laughing's a bit mean, but maybe some who don't share the obsession have got a bit tired of being told they're saddos with no lives, miserable bast*s and worse?

IcedPurple · 11/07/2018 22:51

Because people seem to think it makes them interesting to not like something popular

It's just so edgy innit?

ScarlettSahara · 11/07/2018 22:51

Disappointed yes, gutted no.
I have a lot of respect for the young team. Whilst I disagree with the over-inflated salaries, these players have not been arrogant or unseemly & have worked hard calmly led by Gareth Southgate and they have acknowledged the support of their fans.
I think they were stronger in the fist half but should have been able to consolidate that first goal. Croatia though looked the better team in the second half so well done to them. Refreshing too that the fans in Russia have behaved well (hope they keep it up).

As for it dominating the news, well the world cup is a big deal to many & a welcome distraction from Brexit to me.

Gardenpicnic · 11/07/2018 22:51

I have Croatia in my work's sweepstake...

user1490465531 · 11/07/2018 22:52

Hope France win now they will kill Croatia in the final

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 11/07/2018 22:52

@gardenpicnic
So does my DP 😊

Sallystyle · 11/07/2018 22:53

Because people seem to think it makes them interesting to not like something popular

Very true.

Funnily enough the people on FB who are gleeful that we lost have posted more about the World Cup than the football fans have.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 11/07/2018 22:54

Is Harry Kane on for the Golden Boot though? Would be sooo nice for him.
Lukaku is the only one close but would have to score 3 against England in the third/fourth place game to win it. Grieizmann and Mbappe would have to score four to pass him in the final. Hope he gets it.

mydogisthebest · 11/07/2018 22:55

PuzzledandPissedoff, sorry but people happy and gloating that England lost are miserable and sad. Just because you don't like football doesn't mean that it funny or clever to be so happy that many many people are upset.

MadMags · 11/07/2018 22:55

There are 8 different nationalities in my office and everyone was fully behind Croatia because everyone couldn't stand the thought of how insufferable English people would get if the team got to the final.

That's telling, IMO.

Beehiveyourself · 11/07/2018 22:55

Theres a thread out there about someone’s son and ex smashing up stuff and swearing at her. Over a ball game.

ScreamingValenta · 11/07/2018 22:56

Do you really believe football is so utterly and universally fascinating that anyone who professes not to enjoy it must be feigning indifference as a way of seeking attention?

AdoraBell · 11/07/2018 22:57

I am. Also slightly confused as I’ve never taken a great interest in football.

Shambu · 11/07/2018 22:57

Nope I've seen England play before. 😆

IsabelleSE19 · 11/07/2018 22:57

Judas Yes, would be fab if Kane could get the Golden Boot - such an achievement. I'm a Spurs fan so will be extra proud and hoping that Real Madrid don't come knocking for any of our players

JacquesHammer · 11/07/2018 22:58

No of course not. The ones who repeatedly post about how tedious and dull it is do though. Check some of the threads on here. It’s rather amusing!
