Mostly disappointed because it's unusual to get such a good chance to make it to the final!

I think you mean such an easy route.

And seeing other people happy makes me feel inadequate. Really? confused.

That’s the Mumsnet ultimate put down - at least they imagine it’s an effective response! Lol

Yes, much has been made of Mbappe giving his fee to charity but the whole England team have been giving every fee up for over ten years now. They have their own charity and this years beneficiary is Unilad.

Bicyclethief · 12/07/2018 08:59

Miserable bunch on here, jeez.

So sad for all the children who will be so disappointed by the loss.

They’ve never known anything different. It’s a ball game. What about the Croatian children? They’ll be delighted!

Some people are so joyless. I love seeing people coming together to celebrate and take pride in their country. It’s fun. It’s happiness. Some people really don’t like to see others too happy though, it makes them feel inadequate.

😂

Whoever came up with that on Mumsnet has a lot to answer for. It’s trotted out like “Think of the children” when you’re annoyed someone doesn’t like the same thing you do and that makes you question your choices.

People are different, they like different things. One persons’ joy is another persons’ mindnumbingly boring game with a ball.

Am gutted, ive enjoyed every moment of everyone being happy, proud and elated, we needed it and we've not had it for so long, we have great manager and hungry courageous players, they are young and will improve for this but yes Im sad this morning. Understand not everyone enjoyed it, but for me - even customers at work instead of being miserable and rude were chatty and excited, colleagues, friends and family excited and enthusiastic, I was in supermarket yesterday when they played Three Lions and everyone was singing and smiling, never seen that in my life! we werent being arrogant hoping to do well, we were being happy and optimistic

Of course, I don’t disagree.

I just can’t imagine being the type of person who (a) thinks their interests make them superior and (b) takes delight in other people being disappointed.

Must be a pretty mundane existence for them, rather than just accepting as you say people like different things.

NewGrandad · 12/07/2018 09:10

Not in the slightest. Nope.

Worried about future tournaments though as you look like you have a good, and importantly, young team.

I can't imagine being the sort of person who thinks their interests are shared by everyone - which so many football fans seem to think is the case. Like the 2 ignorant women who sat in the front row of a west end play watching the penalty shoot out on their phones and shouting 'yeeeesssss!' every time England scored. And then one of them mouthed, 'yes - I know! We won - it's great isn't it!!!' at a cast member who was trying to remonstrate with her.

Oh really....

(a) thinks their interests make them superior
You mean like football fans whonemseem to think the world and his wife should stop and bend over so they can watch their game? That think it's fine to need thousands of extra police hours up and down the country and that we all should happily pay for it. Just how much tax payer money did that Hyde Park gathering cost? Not to mention football fans that think schools, shops, pubs etc should all make allowances for their interest...

(b) takes delight in other people being disappointed.
You mean like football fans...
How many chants are sung to the delight of opponent fan disappointment?

The Jules Rimet trophy IS coming home, to France. Allez les Bleus!

The Jules Rimet trophy hasn't been played for since 1970.

CheeseTheDay · 12/07/2018 09:32

I am gutted, especially for my football-mad DD1, as yesterday was her 13th birthday, so her day ended with her going to bed in tears.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/07/2018 09:41

Sorry - what's this about? Is there some "sport" (I believe that's what it's known as) taking place? International sportsball competition?

How did we do? Grin

C'est vrai, Jaques. Je suis une football infidel aussi.

Tiredmum100 · 12/07/2018 09:43

I'm not a massive football fan, but I did watch it last night. I did feel really sorry for England last night. I wanted them to win, and believe it or not I say this as a welsh person!! They did well to get so far and should be proud of what they've achieved.

KlutzyDraconequus · 12/07/2018 09:43

No i didn't actually.

Can't say I am.

But I am Australian, and don't think soccer is that big here.

Er, yes, you did, your post is just above this one and there's no 'some' there.

mydogisthebest · 12/07/2018 10:03

I can only laugh at anyone who thinks England fans are arrogant. Every England fan I know has only ever been disappointed at every World Cup. None of them expected us to get to the semi finals just as none of them expected we would ever win on penalties.

I don't like football but know many people that do. I actually feel quite sorry for England fans because they have to wait 4 years only to see our team fail again. This year at least we got to the semis.

I like tennis, athletics, gymnastics and motor sport. Most of the sportsmen/women I support have done well but I get a bit upset when they don't win. To support a team that hardly ever wins must be demoralising.

I was happy we beat Sweden but felt sorry for all the Swedish fans that looked so upset. I have Swedish friends and they were upset too. No way would I gloat that we beat them.

The way some posters moan you would think the World Cup is every year instead of every 4. So you have to put up with more coverage on tv and in the newspapers (who can blame them when we were doing so well) and some tv programmes rescheduled. It's hardly the end of the world is it?

So why have we been subjected to an endless onslaught in the media of people saying with absolute certainty, "it's coming home"? Confused

SoleBizzz · 12/07/2018 10:16

Yes, gutted.
