To post on trans issues in the Feminist Chat forum?

I've been posting a lot on trans issues over in feminist chat. I am keenly aware that it's primarily a women's forum, for women to discuss issues pertaining to their needs. I also know that the presence of men in women's spaces can undermine useful discussions and become "all about the men"

When I say women, I include transwomen. I know many of you don't, but that's not at all what this AIBU is about.

So, am I making a useful contribution to the debate, or undermining it?

Shite trans propaganda from a frenzied woman hater, Dad. The study has never been corrected or sent back for peer review. That's not how it works.

Ereshkigal I have no idea where you got your quote from, so I am not sure whether those views have been challenged. Is it their job to challenge them because they transgender people?

I bet you read "The T**Fs" too.

sociopathsunited · 11/07/2018 17:30

*Takinrujomu What is a non-trans woman?

I think I answered this already. It's a woman who was assigned female at birth.*

Oh FFS. I wasn't ASSIGNED female at birth. I was BORN a female. I grew into a WOMAN.

Please tell me you haven't reproduced, OP. Please....

Rebooting · 11/07/2018 17:30

Dad that article is massively biased and uses slurs against women.

You know how TERF is used, against women, don’t you? That you would use an article containing that term tells us all we need to know.

Ereshkigal · 11/07/2018 17:30

Is it their job to challenge them because they transgender people?

Yes, if they want to barge their way into women's spaces against women's will. I think they should make some fucking effort to reassure women.

I don't have a mismatch between my gender identity and my sex, and I was assigned male at birth, and the biology seems to fit. So I am a cisgender man.

At what age did this thought process go through your mind?

Is this a recent understanding that you are a man? Or did you know you were a boy aged say 3? What led you to this belief? I am really not believing that you thought 'Ooh I don't seem to have a gender mismatch, mummy tells me I as assigned male at birth and my biology seems to match - I must be a cis-gender boy' when you were 3 years old...

You: Ereshkigal There is absolutely a difference beween non-trans and transwomen. I don't think anyone would disagree.

Me: You are absolutely wrong on that.

Ok do you want to actually make some point to refute this or otherwise engage with it or are you just having fun on your own?

Waddlelikeapenguin · 11/07/2018 17:37

lang GrinGrinGrin I have a whole mouthful of water down my front now!!

Sex exists. Gender identity existing. I oppose any attempt to erase sex as a fundamental category of human existence. I support attempts to fight for sex segregration where it is necessary and proportionate and fight to hold up the existing human rights legislation. I prefer solutions which support privacy and safety with impacting peoples' protected characteristics.

This can be done without talking about six foot transwomen in sparkly shoes, exagerrating the supposed threat of trasngender people, or generally indulging in mockery and transphobia. If you want to win the fight, chanting "Transwomen are men" will get you absolutely nowhere.

My position is in only in the middle in that I recognise both to be real categories.

The idea that transgender people are a super-powered lobby crushing the rights of women is not accurate. They are a tiny number of generally villifed, mocked and absued people who are hugely disproportionatley vicitims of violence. It's just another step in a long battle to acknowledge peoples civil rights.

No, I don't think people can change their chromosomal sex. They can change secondary sex characteristics.

I've clarified many times what gender identity is - you don't agree, and that's fine.

Golly, big clever man. What did I ever do without your manly guidance?

If you don't like the Swedish study, what about figures that are a lot closer to home? The campaigning group, Fair Play for Women, has established through FoI requests that at the very least 40% of transwomen in prison are sex offenders.

Nicola Williams of Fair Play for Women says:

Personally, I remain haunted by a comment made by the president of the British Association of Gender Identity Specialists (an association highly sympathetic to trans people since it represents the majority of clinicians working in Gender Identity Clinics in the British Isles), Dr James Barrett, in his written submission to the government’s Transgender Equality Inquiry in 2015:

“It has been rather naïvely suggested that nobody would seek to pretend transsexual status in prison. In one well evidences case a highly concerned Prison Governor brought particularly to my attention a plethora of prison intelligence information suggesting that the driving force was a desire to make subsequent sexual offending very much easier.”

Better now? Any clearer? As Lang says, only 15% of the male estate are sex offenders as opposed to 40% of TW.

JacquesHammer · 11/07/2018 17:39

According to you. A man.

So you’re thinking you can tell us about womens’ rights?

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 11/07/2018 17:40

You can like broccoli and dislike kale and recognise them both as vegetables.

You can shag women and not men and recognise them both as humans.

Not

You can shag women and not men and recognise them both as women Confused

DadJoke · 11/07/2018 17:41

Ereshkigal I am really sorry -I don't understand your question. I said there is a real difference between trans and non trans women. You said I was wrong on that. In what way am I wrong?

Ilikelotsofthinngs · 11/07/2018 17:41

I would like to say you are not adding anything of value to the discussion but actually the nonsense you spout just proves the point.
Carry on. Let the lurkers see it.
The male entitlement, the blatant hypocrisy. The utter utter nonsense of changing the definition of words we all know the bloody meaning of.

You only like women with vaginas to have sex with. And that 's OK.
Why can you not afford us the same respect when we say no to dick in our spaces?

JacquesHammer · 11/07/2018 17:41

If you're deliberately being obtuse, it's not clever. Don't waste my time.
