To say 'get over here if you want England to win'

LittleLionMansMummy · 11/07/2018 09:25

Ardent supporters, luke warm well wishers (I'm looking at you Scotland and Wales), waistcoat appreciators, Spurs, Arsenal, northern football fans, League 2 strugglers, those whose only interest is the office sweepstake, those playing 'It's coming home' on trumpets at 1am (I still haven't forgiven you for the vuvuzelas), those quietly sipping Chateauneuf du Pape with friends and family, Brexiters, Remainers and basically, anyone and everyone in between who isn't going to use the football as an excuse to jump up and down on emergency response vehicles or piss on a foreigner. Get over here now and leave the naysayers and misery gutses to it.

Come on England!!!

Wooo!

I don't think I can watch penalties again. I'd have to go out into the garden.

ChorleyFMcominginyourears · 11/07/2018 12:30

I'm so excited!! Life long football fan here and I'm so lucky that even though I'm at work tonight I get to watch the match as I'm in the office on my own lol #ibelieve

ThursdayLastWeek · 11/07/2018 12:34

@LittleLions Thanks! That pretty funny and also v appropriate.

Thanks for starting this thread Smile

DeltaG · 11/07/2018 12:37

Yeah, it's gone past 'friendly banter' now and is becoming offensive. I'm holding my tongue for the moment! I've already agreed that France are a better team than England (I think they are), that we've had the easier side of the draw (we have) but they carry on goading nonetheless!

Frouby · 11/07/2018 12:38

Party here later! Had one every match so far so daren't break the tradition in case we jinx it.

Not BBQing today tho. Bit of a buffet instead. Currently got a ham simmering away for sarnies, have hard boiled 14 eggs (we have our own chickens) for egg mayo sarnies and have a fridge and cupboard full of party food.

The house has never been cleaned as many times in 1 month.

It's coming home.

DeltaG · 11/07/2018 12:41

Currently in a minor dispute with DH as I'm insisting we watch tonight's match on British TV. We watched France last night on French TV, so I think it's only fair we watch England on the BBC. DH wants to watch it on French TV. Not happening!

ChanklyBore · 11/07/2018 12:43

I can’t wait but I also can’t watch.

I spend more time with my head in my hands swearing a lot than I do watching the telly in big matches.

My DC find it hilarious. But fuck, the adrenaline!

JoantheVampireSlayer · 11/07/2018 12:57

Hate football culture and all the xenophobic mysoginistic bullshit it encourages but am hugely heartened to see a change in this embodies by the current manager and young players

Absolutely this.

Not a football fan but I'll be watching tonight and I'm already nervous! This current team is one we can actually be proud of!

MarsBarsAreShrinking · 11/07/2018 12:58

I am excited, nervous and emotional and have just had to turn off 3 Lions on the radio as I got a massive lump in my throat Blush

I've been an England fan all my adult life and remember all the painful moments all too clearly. My first real tournament that it grabbed me was Italia 90 and I remember me and my 16 year old boyfriend sobbing on each other when we lost to West Germany. It's been an emotional roller coaster ever since!

HateSummer · 11/07/2018 12:59

COME ON ENGeerrLAND!!!

LeighaJ · 11/07/2018 13:01

I'm a very excited American that's been watching and cheering England along the whole time.

FuzzyCustard · 11/07/2018 13:03

I'm in!
Although will be watching on my own at home tonight...is this the thread for Billy no Mates?

(I don't even like football...usually)

jainaproudm · 11/07/2018 13:03

I'm GIDDY already!!!!

LeighaJ · 11/07/2018 13:06

@JacquesHammer

You'd think that the song being written by comedians would have been a tip off to people. 🤔

LittleLionMansMummy · 11/07/2018 13:07

@Frouby Will be over about 6pm then Wink

@MarsBarsAreShrinking yes Italia 90 is the first major tournament I remember (I was 11). They've been doing a homage to that time on the BBC and I got really teary when they showed all the footage (Gazza, Lineker, Robson etc) which I remember as clear as if it were yesterday. I haven't felt as proud of an England team since that time until now.

@LeighaJ

You’d think right?

MarsBarsAreShrinking · 11/07/2018 13:13

@LittleLionMansMummy oh god yes, I saw that. The bit with Gazza crying on Bobby Robson and Bobby was saying to him "you might not be able to play in the final if we get there but you can help make sure everyone else does "

I'm actually feeling a bit sick now... I almost don't want 7pm to come.

LittleLionMansMummy · 11/07/2018 13:16

I'm struggling to focus at work. Luckily everyone else is the same (lovely mix of people I work with, a bit like this thread).

The first World Cup I got into was Mexico 86, when I was 10. I had the sticker album. Grin And that bloody hand of God goal from Maradona. AngryAngryAngryAngry

Then I was completely obsessed with Gazza in 1990. Poor Gazza.

*ENGLAND!

VINDALOO!* GrinFootball

FuzzyCustard · 11/07/2018 13:22

I remember 1966...my mum coming upstairs to little me in bed to say we had won. And World Cup Willie, our lion mascot.

Celestia26 · 11/07/2018 13:25

This England team have managed the impossible.....they've made me care about football. Who'd have thought it?!

COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!

MinesaPinot · 11/07/2018 13:29

I'm in definitely! Me and DH at home tonight watching it (SE Trains permitting).

DH convinced we are going all the way, winning tonight and on Sunday. I am taking a more considered approach, the same as I do when I go and watch our team (Chelsea) - expect to get nothing, and then be pleasantly surprised when we win. That way I don't get overexcited or nervous. Works for me....

myusernameisnotmyusername · 11/07/2018 13:29

It's all I can think about today. I was 9 during Italia 90 and have fond memories. DD is 5 so it's all very exciting! Come on England!

KittyVonCatsworth · 11/07/2018 13:29
