To deal with this myself

allergicProblem · 10/07/2018 21:55

Backstory is that I was accused of making up allergies and went through hell. It was like Chinese whispers and all involved seemed to be incapable of actually checking properly which would have shown I wasnt lying

Anyway.......my youngest clearly has an allergy but because of what happened I feel like just dealing with it myself. Ordering him a special milk and food, avoiding what he reacts to , I have Epi pens etc anyway so it’s just easier.
My dm says I’m being ridiculous but after what happened nothing would surprise me as it was a total muck up from start to finished
AIBU to just deal with this without any nhs input

If you believe it is bad enough to potentially need epi pens then you need proper testing and diagnosis

PeterPiperPickedSeaShells · 10/07/2018 21:57

How did you get epi pens without medical input?

RabbitsAreTasty · 10/07/2018 21:58

That's insane.

You know how the system works. This time you can use it properly.

It's one thing to flounce off if it is your own health, quite another to flounce without even trying for your child's health.

allergicProblem · 10/07/2018 21:58

My older child has them

OP posts:
cmlover · 10/07/2018 21:58

I really wouldn't. using an so I pen on some one not diagnosed I can be deadly

Sirzy · 10/07/2018 22:00

And how will you make sure they have a proper care plan and access to medication st school?

bluemascara · 10/07/2018 22:01

Yabu
It is insane to use an epi pen on someone without medical input.
If you feel that strongly about it take out bupa and go private
You mother is right!

allergicProblem · 10/07/2018 22:01

I’m feeling like what’s the point though
Total communication failure on so many levels led to CP involvemt
My older son has had serious allergies since birth. All confirmed by bloods and skin prick tests just before he was 1 and then repeated every 12 months.
Reactions seen in and e and gp surgery all documented and he had a care plan.
You would think that was enough
No I was accused of making it all up ! I said repeatedly look a care plan ! Look blood etc results NOBODY listens and I was accused of making it up for attention and ss involved so now when I started weaning my baby and he’s had a clear reaction I’m scared. Scared to be accused again so I feel like I’ll avoid the food and just keep it to myself as even when they had the proof they still said any similar issues they will investigate??? I’m scared to go to the gp

DidimusStench · 10/07/2018 22:03

Woooah!!! No! I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience but please don’t use epi pens on someone they were not prescribed for. You could do some serious damage. See a different doctor, access a different hospital, get insurance and pay for private diagnostics and treatment but don’t mess with your child’s health like that.

allergicProblem · 10/07/2018 22:04

I’m scared to seek help as they think I’m attention seeking and I’m not. I did it all properly and they wouldnt listen we were called liars repeatedly even though we were literally waving consultants letters in their faces it was like talking to a brick wall.
I have anti histamines and there are Epi pens in the house I feel what is the point getting it formally diagnosed will it open is up yet again to CP proceedings for doing nothing wrong I am terrified

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 10/07/2018 22:04

If you think your son needs an epic pen and you’re not pursing a formal diagnosis so he can have it in school, you’re potentially risking his life.

allergicProblem · 10/07/2018 22:06

Obviously would hope to never need them but we have the various ones in the different doses and know the signs we would obviously avoid triggers but if we have them here and needed them we do have the correct ones but would call an ambulance too
I am scarred by what happened it’s awful I was saying look look here’s the proof it’s genuine and more was beingbsaid I’m making it up and I wasn’t I could not get that across to anyone it was scary

OP posts:
bluemascara · 10/07/2018 22:07

Who is accusing you of lying?

DidimusStench · 10/07/2018 22:07

What’s the point? Not hurting your child is the point and if you’re willing to use medication perscribed for someone else on your child then in my opinion SS should definitely be involved as you’re putting your child at risk spectacularly.

I get it. You’ve had a shit time but you need to do what’s right by your children. There’s other routes you can take that won’t harm them.

cmlover · 10/07/2018 22:07

and you'll have as involved for using them on a child.

Shantotto · 10/07/2018 22:08

Yes who thinks you're lying if you have letters etc? Other medical professionals or school or something?

allergicProblem · 10/07/2018 22:09

But I feel my family is at risk. I feel less threat from this when I know i have all the medications here than seeking medical advice and to be accused again of making it up
We had definite proof of allergy before and nobody was listening they kept saying I was making it up that it wasn’t formally recognised and no tests that I used it to prevent him joining in with cooking or to get attention by him needing special food. All untrue I had to shout to be heard and send my letters to everyone saying look here is proof blood results etc food challenge fails etc you assume that it would be quick to clear up but it wasn’t

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 10/07/2018 22:10

You’ve already decided.

What was the point in posting?

allergicProblem · 10/07/2018 22:11

I don’t know who started it but we had a call and then someone wanted to visit and see us from ss
We had to talk about the allergies. They had asked the practise nurse at gp she mistakenly said no letters there turned out she had missed them on his notes and she did apologise but in the meantime we had CP involvemt astney thoughy despite all the letters care plan etc that itbwas made up
I was so upset when youngest had a reaction. I gave him piriton and what I would have done before all this would have been make a gp appt....but I haven’t I’m too scared of what happened
I’m just avoiding that food now

OP posts:
allergicProblem · 10/07/2018 22:12

I’m scared
I don’t know how to go about it after what I was accused of

OP posts:
Dilligaf81 · 10/07/2018 22:13

Go to another Dr, explain your concerns to the Dr or directly contact the consultant your older son sees and get an appointment.
If your son has been formally diagnosed, family link is obvious and very common.
You've been vindicated with your sons diagnoses.

LaContessaDiPlump · 10/07/2018 22:13

Yes, you are being unreasonable. Get a proper diagnosis and then make sure copies of the diagnosis are forwarded to your doctor and the school by the people who diagnose it (I.e. not you).

On the plus side, these things run in families so they are more likely to believe you 2nd time round.

SmartyPants0 · 10/07/2018 22:16

What was/is your older child allergic to
What has your younger child had a reaction to

Lonesurvivor · 10/07/2018 22:19

Who said you were making this up? Have you proof? Have you reported these accusations?

PeterPiperPickedSeaShells · 10/07/2018 22:22

If you knowingly do not seek medical attention for a child with a potentially life threatening then you are much more likely to end up with a safeguarding referral
