To think all children activities should be cancelled on Wednesday?!

stellenbosch · 09/07/2018 19:22

I'm hoping so! They should cancel or at least rearrange Brownies/martial arts/gym/swimming, etc!

Either that or lots of parents having to nip out at half time!

It's a historic event, kids should be allowed to watch!

TheMonkeyMummy · 09/07/2018 21:50

Kids activities? I thought it was on at bedtime?

InCognitoZombie · 09/07/2018 21:52

I'm going to use the opportunity to take my DC swimming. We went out on Saturday and it was heaven driving on near empty roads.

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 09/07/2018 21:56

Oh I might go swimming on Wednesday night actually! Just hope not to run into any idiot, drunken fans* on the way.

Yes, I know that not all England fans are like this. This is just then sort I’d rather avoid.

SirGawain · 09/07/2018 21:58

Why do people assume that everyone is interested in football? If people want to watch it they are welcome to but why should those like me, who couldn’t give a fig have to rearrange my day? When all’s done it’s a game.

SemperIdem · 09/07/2018 22:00
Confused
AlexaAmbidextra · 09/07/2018 22:01

Let me tell you, as an ex A&E sister, any injuries/ health concerns you’ve been storing up, just get yourselves down to your local emergency department when the match starts. You’ll be in, treated and out before you know it. No queuing or waiting for x-rays or blood tests. In fact the docs and nurses will be so bored they’ll be falling over themselves to treat you like royalty. Trust me. I know this from years of experience. (Tongue in cheek obvs but true nevertheless.)

madeyemoodysmum · 09/07/2018 22:03

Historic GrinHmm

CheshireChat · 09/07/2018 22:08

I'll double check if DS's class is still on, but I'm feeling a bit iffy about coming home late as I don't fancy bumping into drunken idiots...

7 isn't really late and not all kids are in bed at that time as they're not chickens.

brizzledrizzle · 09/07/2018 22:08

i genuinely have no idea what happened in 1966.

Harumph. I was born, you should surely all know that? Grin

Mum2jenny · 09/07/2018 22:08

Alexa so true but I bet a&e will be hell later on Wednesday

Maryann1975 · 09/07/2018 22:12

I’m a brownie leader. If my unit met on a Wednesday, we wouldn’t be meeting this week. It seems I’m in the minority but I do want to watch the football. One of my brownies has actually said to me tonight, that whilst her family are not into football, they are into the football this week for the game on Wednesday -the way she said it made me laugh.

My sons Cubs are not meeting on Wednesday and I can’t say I blame them, nothing worse than having lots of the unit not turn up without letting you know- So if you know you aren’t going to send your child to their regular club, please let the leaders know so they can make a decision if it is worth them continuing with their plans or not.

KnightError · 09/07/2018 22:19

Historic? It's a football match and "shock horror" not everyone is interested in it

^ This

^ This again.

Nobody in my family will be watching.

Anon12345ABC · 09/07/2018 22:20

There really are some wankers on here.

Ffs, OP only asked a question. Big fat gold fucking star for all you clever people who have no idea England are in the world cup semi final on Wednesday. Congratulations to you all wonderful human beings.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, lots of people are interested and attendance to various activities will be down. Our school is moving an event to an hour earlier. They cannot pretend they would get the same level of attendance if there was a clash so they are being sensible about it. And I appreciate that as DS would be gutted to miss the football, as would many parents.

And it's not the same to watch it later. I did that on Saturday only to put the TV on where DH had left that channel on and buggered about with the recording so it started at 78 minutes and I saw the score. If England win there is no way you will avoid hearing celebrations.

KnightError · 09/07/2018 22:21

Anon, the OP asked a question in AIBU. So are we all just supposed to agree with her?

KnightError · 09/07/2018 22:22

BTW, I did wonder why Wednesday was of any significance, but realised once I read the full thread.

Fluffyrainbows · 09/07/2018 22:24

@Anon12345ABC the OP posted assuming everyone in the country was fascinated, and they are not. It's fair enough for people to say, don't be ridiculous. Your are interested and your event is being moved. But their are plenty of people who don't care about football, and plenty who do who will be working because they run the country (supermarkets/hospitals/factories) that we all rely on. So yes it is completely unreasonable.

Fluffyrainbows · 09/07/2018 22:25

*you're and there 🙄

chunkymonkey07 · 09/07/2018 22:27

Both of my ds football training have been cancelled each time England have played so far in the World Cup never mind the semis

BarbarianMum · 09/07/2018 22:28

Our cubs and beavers are cancelled on Wed, as 95% want to watch the match. It was down as team games night so no preparation time has been wasted.

dancinfeet · 09/07/2018 22:37

YANBU - I completely agree OP. I also think that you and your husband and partner should take the entire day off work - unpaid, of course.

Oh wait a minute . . . . .

in that case, YABVVU. I'm a dance teacher and I don't give an actual flying fuck about football in the slightest. I will be at work as usual on Wed evening, and I still have my overheads (premise hire) to pay whether people choose to send their kids in to class that day or not. That's their choice, but their class session will have to be paid for whether they turn up or not. I'm a single parent on a fairly low (self employed) income and I have no intention of giving up a hefty chunk of my wages this week just to save my customers a few quid each when it's their choice not to attend. I'm not going to reschedule as it isn't convenient to me to do so.

dancinfeet · 09/07/2018 22:40

that should say husband OR partner btw!

JellySlice · 09/07/2018 22:43

@MyDcAreMarvel, no, a different school. They've said that, to help those coming from work, they will allow latecomers into the hall. Lovely. Lovely and distracting for the performers. They've also said that they will honour Wednesday tickets on any other nights that aren't sold out. However my dd's friend is probably not the only one with grandparents who have bought train tickets to come from a distance to see the show, returning on Thursday, and will now miss it. Much use to them to be told that they can see the show on Thursday.

JamAtkins · 09/07/2018 22:43

Ds's school play moved from wed to tuesday. Not only can I not go as I'm working and it's too late to swap shifts (found out at 6pm today), but DS can't go either. More than a bit pissed off. He's not bothered about football and would have rather done the play.

Moggie45 · 09/07/2018 22:43

Our school has also changed the timing of the end of year play from a 7pm start to 5pm and also the football tournament for cubs has been moved to Thursday.

BillywilliamV · 09/07/2018 22:44

Tell it to the young girls who ve effectively had their prom ruined after months of planning and anticipation
