To think all children activities should be cancelled on Wednesday?!

stellenbosch · 09/07/2018 19:22

I'm hoping so! They should cancel or at least rearrange Brownies/martial arts/gym/swimming, etc!

Either that or lots of parents having to nip out at half time!

It's a historic event, kids should be allowed to watch!

It is pretty easy to deliberately only look at actual news and politics without any reference to games.

Willow2017 · 10/07/2018 10:31

Stop beong so goady.

Real people can see the news or read a paper and just skip over tje bits they are not interested in you know. Just cos its there doesn't mean everyone is obsessed with it. Why is that so hard to understand ?

If someone is giving up thier own time for free to run a club for your kid and you make a commitment to attend then you do so or tell the person why you cant make it. Its just manners. People doing this should be appreciated not derided because you think football should come first for everyone. If a child doesnt have any interest in football why shouldnt they go to brownies if its on? Are you suggesting we should all be forced to watch bloody football cos its 'historic'? It really isnt.

Funnily enough during englands last game the town, beach and pier were heaving with people out enjoying themselves into the evening. There were definately more than 20 of us😉

Jorah · 10/07/2018 10:31

thenavigator

I read the Times and I can promise you the football has been in the main part of the paper. If you choose to skim over it that is of course your prerogative.

I think you'd have to have worked pretty hard to determinedly not know what day the final is tbh Grin Grin

Jorah · 10/07/2018 10:33

yes, and that's why I've let the organisers know that dd won't be at the club she's due to be at on Wednesday. Tbf apparently noone is going so they are cancelling it anyway.

arghhhhhhh · 10/07/2018 10:37

@stellenbosch I had a similar post last week about a wedding and the England match being shown - ended up making the needles. People on here are extremely judgemental when it comes to football - I had one on my post who said the only people who like football are 'middle aged men with tattoos and beer bellies'. Violence also came into it 🙄

Unfortunately, people who don't like football have a very one sided view on it and cannot open their minds as to why tomorrow's game (and Sundays fingers crossed) is such a huge deal to some people. I say people boldly as it's not just 'men's football' which was constantly brought up in my post.

I'm with you on the historic event. My dd has dancing tomorrow evening, I'll be collecting her 10 mins early - as a lot of parents are to make sure we are home and sorted in time of the match.

Dd won't be interested in it but I am. She's also at a bday party on Sunday but the parents have moved it to an earlier time so it doesn't clash with the final - which I will be watching regardless of tomorrow's results.

Like I say, don't expect many to back you up on here. A lot are just so narrow minded to it - that's fine. Each to their own. But I'm getting a bit fed up of Mumsnetters looking down on football fans if I'm honest.

arghhhhhhh · 10/07/2018 10:38

*making the papers not the needles lol

EnoughAlready999 · 10/07/2018 10:39

Gosh, there are some uptight bastards on here!

Willow2017 · 10/07/2018 10:40

I have no idea when the actual final is on because I DONT CARE its really that simple.

It is apparently hard to understand but some people really dont care about football at all. We have other things that interest us and i dont expect the whole of the uk to care about them so why should i have to care about what someone else likes?

I dont hate England, if they get through good for them but it wont affect me one iota.

TheNavigator · 10/07/2018 10:41

I think you'd have to have worked pretty hard to determinedly not know what day the final is tbh

I can assure it has been zero effort not to bother reading the sports section of the newspaper - how odd to think you need to work hard to not read something Confused

It's 22 men running round a pitch chasing a ball. Get yourself a life. Can't stand all this nonsense. The sooner it's over the better

Iceweasel · 10/07/2018 10:48

Not fair that some events and activities are being brought forward. Watching a game is a choice, many parents can't leave work early.

gekiort · 10/07/2018 10:49

This is really funny.

Yes it's a big event.

No it's not necessary to cancel activities.

HTH

cakedup · 10/07/2018 10:49

Another one who doesn't give a shit about the football, neither does ds (13). We'll be carrying on as normal weds evening - I'll be cleaning the living room and ds will be playing fortnite. I think football fans are really arrogant to think that life should revolve around a sport.

arghhhhhhh · 10/07/2018 11:03

@cakedup - could say the same about you. Football fans aren't arrogant. Life doesn't evolve around sport. No one has said it does. This is an event that comes round once every 4 years and usually we are shit. This time around - we aren't! There's no arrogance. It's just been a time of excitement and happiness for football fans - what the hell is wrong with that? Fair enough you don't like football but don't judge fans for having a good time and enjoying themselves. What harm are they doing to you exactly?

Non football fans seriously need to lighten up.

Fluffyrainbows · 10/07/2018 11:04

I'd agree with the comments about things being changed being out of order, I don't mean a club being postponed but kids plays being changed to nights when people are working and now can't get time off is well out of order. That is really unfair on the kids and families.

BarefootHippieChick · 10/07/2018 11:10

I think there are literally 20 people in England who are uninterested

Count dh & I as 2 of those then. Have never been interested in football and never have been. Have never watched a match and only know when they are because I hear other people talking about it.

arghhhhhhh · 10/07/2018 11:13

At the end of the day....if you don't like football then that's absolutely fine....but why be so judgemental against people that do?

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 10/07/2018 11:17

Another one who doesn’t really care what happens as long as some of the fans don’t show themselves up again. Scary. I’m slightly more interested in Wimbledon, but not that fussed about it either 🤷‍♀️.

Again, I’m not English, but then neither is half my street! We have 2 x Irish, 2 x Indian, 1 x Spanish, 1 x Latvian and 1 x Portuguese here. Some are cheering on England. The people who like football anyway seem to be. But for the others, like me, who don’t like football and who aren’t English, then there isn’t all that much appeal really.

ginandnappies · 10/07/2018 11:18

Wow. Confused

bellinisurge · 10/07/2018 11:22

Aldi is closing at 3 so staff can watch.

Mousefunky · 10/07/2018 11:25

Historic event Grin. Sure it’s gonna go down like the Battle of Hastings or WW2. Jesus Christ...

CheshireChat · 10/07/2018 11:26

Because even though we have no interest whatsoever, it's starting to have a negative impact on our lives. Noise, antisocial behaviour and now some football fans believe everything needs planning around the game. Not to mention that even if the classes do go ahead, a lot of people like me are trying to guess whether it'll be a good idea to the walking around town on the same day as the match...

Elementtree · 10/07/2018 11:35

Sure it’s gonna go down like the Battle of Hastings or WW2.

Grin

The clean up operation might bear some resemblance

Bobbydeniro69 · 10/07/2018 11:43

And other thread full of elitist, narrow minded snobs.

All the football haters in this thread, I hope you smile politely and be accepting the next time something you are really interested in gets sneered at and belittled by people that you know.

Oh and by the way, you sound really , really silly saying the World Cup is just about football and football fans.

The country is enjoying a period of long awaited national pride. The St Georges cross can be embraced without the racist connotations normal associated with it.

2nd and 3rd generation immigrants are representing our country - a player with 'Alli ' on his shirt scored for us. The views of UKIP, EDL and Britains First are being laughed at even more than normal as NINE black players have already played for us at this tournament.

IT IS a big deal. It's not just ' mens football'.

Rant over.
