That's all, folks! Goodness only knows what happens now. But at least that Grade A twat is no longer representing us abroad.

i don't do politics -much-and not being english have no dog in this fight
but do ya think maybe this resignation thing could be(hopefully) contagious.
signed; an american who hates trump

NanaNoodleman · 09/07/2018 16:49

The question about being pissed was actually quite charitable. If that’s all it is there’s a chance you might sober up and regain your ability to know a duplicitous little shit when you see one.

Twombly · 09/07/2018 16:50

Just look at the Daily Mail - I think you're kidding yourself.

And keep looking at the Daily Mail. Once Dacre's gone the tide will change. Even the DM knows a sinking ship when it sees one.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/07/2018 16:50

I worry because it brings us closer to Corbyn being PM - honestly he worries me more than Trump, we cannot possibly stand more division, hate, racism and envy as a country and the people he surrounds himself with seem to be made to sow those things.

Absolute bollocks.

AlphaBravo · 09/07/2018 16:51

He's making a run for PM. He wouldn't have ever stepped down if he didn't know he had party backing to make a run at it. He might be a clown but he is far from stupid. Which is even more terrifying.

Seasawride · 09/07/2018 16:51

Just heard Emily Thornbury on 5 live! All over the place on the customs union and the single market.

We knew he would be bollocks when Cameron resigned. He knew he was the end.

We don’t need a second referendum. We need MPs to treat it as advisory and bloody well hope the EU let us back in.

My guess is they would with open arms. They hate it too.

LoafEater · 09/07/2018 16:52

Anyone who thinks that Boris has done this for anything other than totally self serving reasons is a fool.

Seasawride · 09/07/2018 16:52

une

Agree Corbyn is on a par with trump. Disaster for the country, economy and the future of Britain.

God what a bloody mess.

UneMoonit · 09/07/2018 16:53

@Loaf - doesn't mean he'll be successful, though.

Poudrenez · 09/07/2018 16:54

Boris is unflushable - he'll just pop up somewhere else.

Bluntness100 · 09/07/2018 16:54

My guess is they would with open arms. They hate it too

That's valid, no one negotiating this, on either side of the table, believe it's the right thing to do. It's simply a mess. That's why people like Boris trying to use this as a means to safe guard their own careers is really unpleasant behaviour,

Ta1kinPeace · 09/07/2018 16:54

The Vote WAS advisory, not binding.
The legislation makes that quite clear.

Article 50 can be unravelled any time up till next March (as per the Brit who wrote it)

Just need a politician with balls and brains to make it happen
sadly not many of them in the Commons at the moment
on any bench

Looks like the Tory shills are in. Good look fire fighting todays events Grin

TattyTshirt · 09/07/2018 16:56

Please don't say Jacob Rees-Mogg as that actually makes me feel ill, and consider emigration

Yep my gut feeling is it will be him.... It just goes to show the inadequacies of The Labour party at the moment. They are non contenders.... along with the Tories! WTF is going to happen? The UK is in the middle of a shitstorm with no way out!

QuiteUnfitBit · 09/07/2018 16:58

That's so true! The only reason the Tories are in is because of the Labour Party mess.

TinCanAlleyCat · 09/07/2018 16:58

Bugger off Boris and take that bellend Jacob Rees Smug with you.

Childrenofthesun · 09/07/2018 16:59

I've got no time for TM and think her initial handling of Brexit was shambolic (under the influence of Timothy and Hill). Untold damage was done in those initial "citizens of nowhere" "Brexit means Brexit" days. However, as things stand, I think she's the least worst option.

I think those Tories that are not on the ultra-loony right are numerous enough to keep her in. Most of them know that Gove and Rees-Smug would be electoral suicide and hopefully Bozo has proved himself incompetent enough in the Foreign Office to make sure everyone knows he is not a credible leader. I could see the Tory MPs backing someone like Javid but I still think that the party membership are too unenlightened to vote for a Muslim leader.

Anyone in the Labour Party who wants to be leader is keeping their heads well-done until the Brexit-shambles is over, even though it should be their responsibility to show some proper opposition to the shit-show of the last two years. Shameful all round really.

Seasawride · 09/07/2018 17:00

Ghosto

Are you really thinking this potential total crisis for our country is somehow funny? Or about party politics?

If you think Corbyn et al could do any better you see either very young or just deluded or probably both.

noparty has an answer to Brexit. Labour certainly hasn’t. Not a clue because there is no sensible way to leave without ruining the economy jobs and lives.

If you see this as Grin you are a prat.

longwayoff · 09/07/2018 17:00

Bluntness really likes Bozza. Meet him.

mostdays · 09/07/2018 17:01

Nothing about any of this makes me delighted. I voted remain, I'd still like to remain, but I can't be anything but appalled by Brexit going this badly. A few people I know have been in raptures this afternoon thinking the rank incompetence of the Tory government and the continued refusal to accept reality of the hard Brexiteers means Brexit is imploding and we might get a chance to save ourselves. I don't see that happening (I wish, oh I wish so much), tbh, I see us hurtling headlong towards the most damaging of Brexits possible.

Seasawride · 09/07/2018 17:01

children

Least worst option. Yes sadly I agree

QuiteUnfitBit · 09/07/2018 17:03

I see us hurtling headlong towards the most damaging of Brexits possible
That sums it up for me too.

Seasawride · 09/07/2018 17:03

Mostdays

I don’t know I would love to think so.

At least no one can now see Boris as a good politician he was a totally incompetent idiot as FS.

runningkeenster · 09/07/2018 17:04

Cameron should (a) never have allowed himself to be pressured into having one and (b) having given way should have taken the obvious precaution which is usual in a referendum of saying there had to be a minimum turnout and a far higher percentage in favour than a simple majority

And Alex Salmond suggested that it should only be actioned if a majority in each of the 4 constituent parts of the UK voted in favour of leaving. He was told no, because it was advisory (and because the Brexiteers knew full well Scotland would vote to remain).

I don't want another referendum. But I think a Norway-style arrangement would reflect the closeness of the vote. It wouldn't please die hard Remainers or Leavers, but it would be a compromise and that's what we need.
