Sorry if there has already been a thread

I just can’t stop watching - those brave, brave kids and the amazing people risking their own lives to get them out. When you see the news of all the awful things people do to other people, then a story like this comes along and it makes you realise how bloody fantastic people really are!!

I do wonder if they will be taking legal action against the football coach who took them into the cave in the first place. You just don't go exploring caves that are liable for flooding in the rainy season.

Lycanthropology · 09/07/2018 11:03

It was such a heartbreaking, terrifying story that now seems so much more hopeful since the successful rescue of some. It's certainly very "gripping". I can see a film being made about this in the future.

So sad about the poor diver who died though.Sad

Lycanthropology · 09/07/2018 11:05

Stoveding

Im not sure of your point, but it is literally NOT what you said.

Slartybartfast · 09/07/2018 11:09

amazing, the people, the world in fact, coming together in the cause - nail biting. i dont have the words for it tbh.
a film, no doubt
the coach, no - no suing will occur, i bloody hope

Gingerivy · 09/07/2018 11:12

Kpo58 From what I've read, it's a popular activity there, and that particular one was open to the public. They weren't expecting the flooding rains, as their rainy season starts in July (after which time, yes they would have been irresponsible to go in there). It was June when they went in. I've also seen articles indicating that all the boys had previously done that activity prior, so wouldn't have thought twice about going as a group activity.

Zebraantelopegiraffe · 09/07/2018 11:15

That coach is barley an adult himself the poor lad

Stoveding I don’t think ‘literally’ means what you think it means.

Slartybartfast · 09/07/2018 11:20

the youngest may be all but they vary in ages,

feathermucker · 09/07/2018 11:20

Boy in a well????? Am.i missing something.

Really hope they get them all out.

AviatorShades · 09/07/2018 11:20

I can'd do links, but I've been looking at Pattaya News for updates and will continue to do so until they're all out and safe.

Madeline18 · 09/07/2018 11:22

It's making me feel a bit ill to be honest, I've stopped looking at the coverage until someone tells me they all got out safely.

Gingerivy · 09/07/2018 11:30

They've just gotten a 5th boy out.

This comment on the coverage was chilling:

Rescuers have a dwindling window of opportunity, with forecasters predicting the return of heavy monsoon rains in the coming days, effectively sealing off the cave until October.

Lycanthropology · 09/07/2018 11:33

Ginger

That's awful. Can't imagine what the boys and their families are going through Sad

Gingerivy · 09/07/2018 11:39

From an article:

Wild Boars coach Akkapol Chanthawong wrote a letter of apology to the parents of the 12 boys trapped with him in the cave complex.
All the kids are fine. There are people taking really good care of them.I promise I will take care of the children the best I can. Thank you for your support. I'm really sorry to the parents.
In response, the boys' parents have assured him that they don't blame him for the tragedy that has seen the soccer team trapped underground for more than two weeks.
Dear Coach Ake,We, as your soccer team member's parents believe in you and your spirit that you've been taking a good care of our kids. We just want you to know that this is not your fault. We all here don't blame you and just want you not to blame yourself. We all understand all the situations that have happened and we are here supporting you. We appreciate all your loving support and care to our kids. We are waiting for the news that you all get back out of the cave safely soon.Your aunt is also here waiting for you at the entrance.
Tanawat Viboonrungruang, the father of Chanin Viboonrungruang, also known as Titun, reiterated that the families aren't blaming the 25-year-old coach.
"We don’t want him to blame himself and feel any guilt. We all understand that this is an accident and it’s (a) natural disaster in the rainy season," he told CNN.
"We can’t anticipate what will happen... No one here will take this as his fault."

Apparently someone came out on a stretcher recently and a helicopter has just taken off. I’m concerned that this is a bad sign - everyone was taken to hospital in ambulances yesterday and they were only planning to use the helicopter if the situation was very serious

rainbowgrimm · 09/07/2018 11:43

I know it's been said before but the British guys out there are doing it voluntarly through an organisation run entirely on donations. I've just thrown them a few quid, they're reserves are going to be completely exhausted by this. It brought home to me how 'small' they are when I got a personal email thanking me, I only sent a tenner.

jay55 · 09/07/2018 11:45

It is an incredible operation when they talk about how far the journey out is.
Hoping they all male it out okay.
Hearing that the parents are not being told who is out to manage the whole groups mental health is amazing and distressing.

Oddcat · 09/07/2018 11:45

I've just seen that it takes 11 hours to get one boy out ! It's such a tragic yet amazing story of bravery , dedication and resilience .

UndergroundSun · 09/07/2018 11:49

rainbowgrimm can you post the link to donate please?

user1471522752 · 09/07/2018 11:50

@rainbowgrimm - can you share a link for how to make donations please ?

specialsubject · 09/07/2018 11:57

I can only hope that the 'sue everyone' culture has not reached Thailand. The rainy season does not check exact dates on the calendar. Something risky was done. Lessons should be learned; check weather forecast, think about an escape plan, etc etc.

The biggest hope is that they will all be around to learn those lessons. Fingers crossed.

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 09/07/2018 11:59

to donate

TokyoSushi · 09/07/2018 12:00

Amazing, heartbreaking, I am also utterly gripped by it. I'm so pleased they are starting to come out now.

Yes it was a terrible error of judgement on the coaches behalf but he could never have foreseen that this would happen, I hope no legal action is taken against him.

BarbarianMum · 09/07/2018 12:03

Have just donated. Thanks for the link.
