Sorry if there has already been a thread

I just can’t stop watching - those brave, brave kids and the amazing people risking their own lives to get them out. When you see the news of all the awful things people do to other people, then a story like this comes along and it makes you realise how bloody fantastic people really are!!

I saw on the news all the boys had wrote letters to their parents.

And quite a few of them said they wanted a KFC when they get out. Typical little boy behaviour.

Hope that their mums are there waiting for them with the biggest cuddle and bucket of chicken.

I can imagine their real troubles are yet to come. Ptsd, claustophobia etc are yet to come I imagine. Poor boys.

Keeptrudging · 09/07/2018 13:26

Thanks for the link, I've donated and shared with friends. Just hoping for a miracle that they get them all out.

SummerGems · 09/07/2018 13:30

There was another one in 1981 when a young boy fell down a well in Italy and the world was gripped by it. Unfortunately however he did not survive. Sad.

Interestingly though if you google “boy in the well” there are an awful lot of stories of children falling down wells Shock.

SlartiAardvark · 09/07/2018 13:31

I do wonder if they will be taking legal action against the football coach who took them into the cave in the first place.

That's the British attitude.

If it was happening in the UK there'd be more lawyers than divers at the site.

I much prefer the Thai attitude...

We don’t want him to blame himself and feel any guilt. We all understand that this is an accident and it’s (a) natural disaster in the rainy season

M3lon · 09/07/2018 13:32

When it became clear what they would have to do to get the boys out I was predicting they wouldn't succeed without loss of life. I am amazed it has been going so well, though I worry about the level of secrecy and that this might mean all is not well with all of the boys.

It just seems impossible they will get them all out successfully when a diver already died.

I hope with everything I have that I am wrong though!

Birdsgottafly · 09/07/2018 13:39

Somtamthai, as soon as the Boys were found in the Cave, the school and their classmates had said that warnings had been given out, to not go in, until the season passed.

How would we feel if a Teacher in this Country ignored all warnings and common sense and caused the death of a child and a rescuer?

They have done and been charged with criminal negligence, as have the people whose bouncy castle blew away and killed a child. Why do Thai children not deserve the same level of protection?

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/07/2018 13:39

If the parents arent blaming the coach then perhaps we should follow their lead. Has probably going to be far harder on himself than anything anyone else can say about or too him.

I think he's been more than punished enough. And there's not a person here who has never done anything thoughtless dangerous or stupid.

From the updates it sounds like eveeyone has been amazing. The coach and the boys , well everyone should be so proud of how they have looked after eachother and the maturity and bravery they have shown. Incredible from kids so young.

And the rescuers...Well what can we say. Superheroes. Every single one of them.

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/07/2018 13:45

Agreed Giles. We all make stupid mistakes sometimes. Just this one was incredibly an incredibly costly one - thank god it’s being sorted out.

Undercoverbanana · 09/07/2018 13:49

Birdsgottafly - it’s really not our place to dictate the legal process for sports coaches in another country. It’s none of our business.

What is our business is to be compassionate, human and pull together for the sakes of those in danger.

RoadToRivendell · 09/07/2018 13:50

I heard on the radio that the Thai people are standing by the coach, and he's viewed as a hero for looking after the boys and sacrificing his own health for theirs.

Godspeed to them all, I'm full of awe and respect for the people who are risking their lives to rescue these boys.

And I'm also glued.

What it reminds me of is the Chilean miners and the extraordinary operation to get them all out safely. I'm the world's least emotional person but even I had tears in my eyes as they started to bring them up one by one. So dangerous and frightening, and some incredible instances of bravery and international cooperation. I'm very claustrophobic and so this us really the stuff of nightmares for me.

Undercoverbanana · 09/07/2018 13:53

Birdsgottafly - Are you actually taking the piss out of people’s ancient cultural beliefs at a time like this? Nice.

Pflt · 09/07/2018 13:55

Seriously @birdsgottafly? Confused

diddl · 09/07/2018 13:56

"We all make stupid mistakes sometimes. "

It's not really a mistake though is it? They decided to take the risk knowthing that the rainy season is approaching.

WindyWednesday · 09/07/2018 13:58

I’ve read that they will now go into quarantine because they may have got diseases from inside the cave. I don’t understand this. What could be lurking in the cave. Virus, bacteria. Anyone help me understand this.

RoadToRivendell · 09/07/2018 14:02

I think they're worried about bats/mould and the like.

Undercoverbanana · 09/07/2018 14:02

Windy - I think the authorities want to keep them away from the media in case something has gone wrong already and they don’t want the news spreading. They need to keep things calm and contained for everyone’s sake.

pannikin · 09/07/2018 14:04

Windy viruses can often lay dormant in caves. For example they believe Marburg virus (closely related to Ebola) came from Kitum Cave in a Kenyan national park. This could be a variety of reasons such as wildlife droppings or laying dormant in the rock itself.

Really hope they get all the boys and their coach out alive. Hoping against hope.

brizzledrizzle · 09/07/2018 14:05

CNN are now saying that the rescue has finished for the day.

worstmotherintheworld · 09/07/2018 14:07

I am so happy that the boys are being rescued. It sounds like each life saved is pretty miraculous, I just hope that it is good news for all the families. I hope that they will be given the psychological support that they will surely need after such an ordeal. It's amazing to see the rescue effort. I thought Donald Trump's tweet was irritating though - you would think that the USA was single-handedly carrying out the work...

Somtamthai · 09/07/2018 14:09

@birdsgottafly Your attitude towards Thai people is utterly repugnant and it demonstrates your complete lack of knowledge.

The Parents are supporting the coach. Now my Thai isn’t perfect but I’ve not read or heard anything in thai need that blames the coach! I’m happy for you to direct me to a (Thai) report that sates otherwise.

Protection from what exactly? Exploring caves and waterfalls is a common thing to do here. Monsoon season had NOT started when they went in.

The boys haven’t died! The diver that died was a tragedy. However, let’s talk about the U.K. where people go onto mountains, into rough seas sets and need rescuing. They also put rescuers in danger.

As for your other foolishness, well you can’t argue with stupid really can you.

Justtheonequestion · 09/07/2018 14:10

Its disgusting that a load of ketboard warriers, safe and dry, and condemning a football coach who has kept those boys alive.
You dont know the facts. He could have followed them in after they got excited abd ran too far.
Remember he will spend another night jn the cave. He is in one of the worst conditions and he is still there.
And theres talk of charging him. Lets make sure he lives first fucking hell.
And the boat captain left the korean kids on the boat. The coach here didnt.
Bloody hell.

Somtamthai · 09/07/2018 14:11

Oh they are in quarantine because there’s bats in the caves and their droppings can carry disease. It’s a preventative measure.

ToeToToe · 09/07/2018 14:14

Incredible work by the rescuers. Incredible fortitude shown by the boys - presumably they had been in the dark/with limited torchlight before they were found? I am in awe of them all- and I agree that there is not the litigious culture in Thailand that there is in UK/US.

Praying for them all to get out now.
