Sorry if there has already been a thread

I just can’t stop watching - those brave, brave kids and the amazing people risking their own lives to get them out. When you see the news of all the awful things people do to other people, then a story like this comes along and it makes you realise how bloody fantastic people really are!!

Can you imagine what the parents are going through? Apparently they are not telling the parents which boys are out at this stage. Please, please, let them all be ok.

rainbowgrimm · 09/07/2018 12:12

Thank you hastings for posting the link. They have 10 people out there, 7 divers & 3 support staff. The email said they plan to use donations to replace the kit that will be damaged & destroyed during this rescue so they're ready for the next. What amazing brave people.

Slartybartfast · 09/07/2018 12:12

I believe the weather wasn't safe for helicopters yesterday

Undercoverbanana · 09/07/2018 12:13

I’ve just read that oxygen is falling dangerously low in the cave. Shit.

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 09/07/2018 12:16

I thought they put an air line in?

MrsMotherHen · 09/07/2018 12:19

I have donated ....not much but I would imagine every penny counts.

BarbarianMum · 09/07/2018 12:22

I guess the air line can't replenish the oxygen quickly enough - there are quite a lot of people in the cave now. And it doesn't carry carbon dioxide away.

PattiStanger · 09/07/2018 12:24

It's amazing that they've managed to get 5 out so far given how difficult everyone thought it was going to be to do anything so soon.

Just the thought of pot holing and deep caves freaks me out,.

SummerGems · 09/07/2018 12:28

I sincerely hope that there aren’t plans to take legal action against the coach for this. We’re all human and fallible, It wasn’t the rainy season and no-one is the boss of nature. Suing him would achieve what exactly?

The people going into these situations are incredible and putting their own lives at risk also.

Sammysquiz · 09/07/2018 12:50

The narrowest tunnel they’ve got to get through is only around 34cm high, and so the boys would have to go through that bit on their own. Underwater and in darkness. Just terrifying to imagine.

Birdsgottafly · 09/07/2018 13:07

"That coach is barley an adult himself the poor lad"

He's 25, he is a Man. Luckily he was a Buddhist Monk, as a young lad and still was attending the Temple to meditate up to an hour at a time. That will be a big help to all their Mental health, as he was teaching the boys how to meditate, before this happened.

The disciplined side of it will keep then all going.

They had all been warned not to go in and the place is considered off limits during Monsoon Season, which it was/is.

It's no use speculating, he might not get out alive, but he did endanger their lives and one Rescuer has died, which will leave his Family in hardship.

We would prosecute a Teacher doing the equivalent here.

Until all of the boys are out, we can't say if action should be taken, he may end up responsible for more deaths.

Birdsgottafly · 09/07/2018 13:10

SummerGems, the warnings about the Monsoon Season and the Caves had been happening for two weeks. The School had told it's Pupils to stop such behaviour.

He decided to put those boys lives at risk.

SlothSlothSloth · 09/07/2018 13:14

I am in awe of the incredible Navy seals! Imagine being able to take on something like this. They’re so brave and so skilled.

I feel terribly sorry for the coach. He’s so young, and must feel just awful. I can’t imagine how distressing it must be being in charge of all those children in this situation too - all looking to you for protection.

SummerGems · 09/07/2018 13:15

Don’t people think he’s paid enough of a price? Must everything end in a lawsuit? Perhaps they shouldn’t have gone in who knows, but equally had he not been with them they wouldn’t have survived this far either.

Sometimes good people make mistakes. Sometimes there’s a price to pay and sometimes there isn’t. The signs up in front of the cave say no entry between July and October. It was june. If it hadn’t rained they would all have gone in, all come out and not another word would have ever been said about it. But because something went wrong someone is expected to pay the price. Suing him won’t change what happened. It won’t change the past two weeks. I very much doubt he has money to give to families anyway, but I suppose it will make the where-there’s-blame-there’s-a-claim mob happy.....

strawberrisc · 09/07/2018 13:16

I wonder if the poster up above mentioning the 'well' is referring to a situation such as the Rescue of Jessica McClure.

She fell into a well in her back garden and was only yards from her parents but was trapped. It took days to rescue her because everything they thought of trying could have led to the well collapsing.

SlothSlothSloth · 09/07/2018 13:17

People talking about suing the coach have no empathy. He’s already had more than his punishment, and as he’s in the last group to try to get out, there’s a chance he may not even make it. The fear and guilt he must be feeling is unimaginable.

SummerGems · 09/07/2018 13:18

And it’s entirely disingenuous to suggest that he “decided to put those boys’ lives at risk.” Of course he didn’t. They engaged in an activity which ended up putting them at risk. There’s a vast difference, otherwise the suggestion surely is that he went in there thinking they could all die in there and happily carried on. Which I think we all know to absolutely not be true.

Worzels · 09/07/2018 13:20

My heart aches for all of them. I read the notes they wrote to their families - so touching. Everything crossed for a safe resolution, sadly not forgetting the diver who has died. Will donate.

Lycanthropology · 09/07/2018 13:20

Guardian report that Reuters and CNN are reporting that 7th and 8th boys rescued.

Hope it's true.

Gingerivy · 09/07/2018 13:20

Once again. From an article:

Wild Boars coach Akkapol Chanthawong wrote a letter of apology to the parents of the 12 boys trapped with him in the cave complex.
All the kids are fine. There are people taking really good care of them.I promise I will take care of the children the best I can. Thank you for your support. I'm really sorry to the parents.
In response, the boys' parents have assured him that they don't blame him for the tragedy that has seen the soccer team trapped underground for more than two weeks.
Dear Coach Ake,We, as your soccer team member's parents believe in you and your spirit that you've been taking a good care of our kids. We just want you to know that this is not your fault. We all here don't blame you and just want you not to blame yourself. We all understand all the situations that have happened and we are here supporting you. We appreciate all your loving support and care to our kids. We are waiting for the news that you all get back out of the cave safely soon.Your aunt is also here waiting for you at the entrance.
Tanawat Viboonrungruang, the father of Chanin Viboonrungruang, also known as Titun, reiterated that the families aren't blaming the 25-year-old coach.
"We don’t want him to blame himself and feel any guilt. We all understand that this is an accident and it’s (a) natural disaster in the rainy season," he told CNN.
"We can’t anticipate what will happen... No one here will take this as his fault."

Gingerivy · 09/07/2018 13:22

CNN reporting that 8 boys are out, 4 boys and coach still in cave. Operations done for the day, and they will be back at it again tomorrow.

Somtamthai · 09/07/2018 13:22

Monsoon season starts at the end of June and July. Going into the caves is a very popular activity here.

The boys have been before.

That cave is a tourist destination!

The coach has been giving his food and water to the boys and not taking any himself.

It’s actually unfair to say this about the coach. He decided to take the boys on a trip, incidently i have also taken students and myself into the Thai caves.

Anyway 8 of the boys are now out.

If the couch is deemed negligent he will be charged. As this captain was just charged for negligence after a boat sunk.

Are the ambulance chasers onto this now? Dear God.

"I wonder if the poster up above mentioning the 'well' is referring to a situation such as the Rescue of Jessica McClure."

I wondered the same because this story reminded me of that one as well. Even if the circumstances were different, the way it gripped people and brought them together to help was the same.

CaseStudyResearch · 09/07/2018 13:24

This may be outing, but PIL live about 30km from here and MIL teaches the local police force English. They’ve been drafted in because they now have some English, to support with the diving team.

There are helicopters available for each child, partly because the roads in the region aren’t great and there was a fairly big accident yesterday which nearly blocked off roads.
