Sorry if there has already been a thread

I just can’t stop watching - those brave, brave kids and the amazing people risking their own lives to get them out. When you see the news of all the awful things people do to other people, then a story like this comes along and it makes you realise how bloody fantastic people really are!!

Really Allington?

GameOfMinges · 10/07/2018 13:26

The boys and the coach are reported as being all out. Still 4 more rescuers down there though. We need them out. Not over yet.

blueshoes · 10/07/2018 13:35

ummn what is the best group to donate to? I have the www.caverescue.org.uk/ from below.

ummnamechange · 10/07/2018 13:43

Blueshoes - that is great group - they work nationally and internationally

However - look at your local group they need donations as well.

the BCRC doesn't pass donations onto local groups as far as i know. On the BCRC site www.caverescue.org.uk/rescue-teams/

you can get links to your local team - they support mountain rescue and also do mine and tunnel rescue as well helping with the Search and Rescue Dog association.

ummnamechange · 10/07/2018 13:45

and really every little helps - none of these groups have admin costs, no paid staffers, no PR. everyone is a volunteer. Money is spent on rescues and kit - thats it.

ummnamechange · 10/07/2018 13:54

to give a perspective the Yorkshire group CRO states that as little as a pound will buy two mars bars to feed a casualty and rescuer on their way out.

Cave rescue is dirty, hard work in horrible conditions. If the casualty is known to his rescuers they can generally have a tough old time on the way out. They have an even tougher time in the pub after...

blueshoes · 10/07/2018 14:14

Ummn* thanks for the info. My local group which is the South East CRO (SERCO) does not have a link to donate. Should I just email the named contact

ummnamechange · 10/07/2018 14:14

by all means - you are likely to get a response at some point. usually when they get home from work or similar!

I'm an ex climber, and I remember a couple of the lads from my uni club having to be rescued from the idwal slabs (that's a level of incompetence above and beyond...) I was on a different crag, with the minibus, and made it down to the mountain rescue post to pick them up just in time to hear the tongue lashing they got from the head of the rescue team. Gulp! I decided if I ever had to be rescued it'd better be for something serious!

But I'm so glad all of them are out safely (got a bit teary watching the news). So sad, though, for the Thai rescue Diver.

These guys should be the types of people that are made into hero’s. So that our kids and future generations aspire to being like this, instead of actors/sports stars.

^ This.

50shadesofbeige · 10/07/2018 15:57

In case anyone hasn't seen the BBC as reporting that the remaining rescue divers and the doctor are now free from the cave 😊🎉

Undercoverbanana · 10/07/2018 16:00

Incredible. Absolutely incredible. I am awe of the good that humans can do, despite our ability to fuck everything up.

What amazing people. Strong mentally and physically. Proper heroes.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 10/07/2018 17:01

Ha ha Fermat's, my dad does mountain rescue (climbers in the main), and I can quite imagine him giving someone a bollocking!

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/07/2018 17:03

Oh that's brilliant!!!!

Real life superheroes

Slartybartfast · 10/07/2018 17:15

Such JOYFUL news

M3lon · 10/07/2018 17:20

I really can't believe it...I'm still waiting for them to admit not everyone made it...

It just seems so impossible they got them all out without panic, or the kind of problem that killed the diver earlier in the process.

I've never been more glad to be wrong though!

Confusedbeetle · 10/07/2018 17:27

They are all out. I feel dreadfully sorry for the coach. No surprise that people who dont know the story want him lynching. Quite typical of our country. We have no idea why they went in to the cave and what made them go in deeper except that the waters were rising. There is nothing to say they were caving. Someone call off the lynch mob, Its like how quickly after the lights change does the person behind sound the horn. Who would ever be a teacher taking out a group of kids. It is the good news story of the day. Dont spoil it with tales of "someone must pay" He looked after those children aginst the odds and under dreadful circumstances, keeping their moral up

pombal · 10/07/2018 17:29

The world needs more SEAL’s and cave divers and less reality TV stars.

I can’t belive there weren’t more casualties.

RIP Saman Gunan.

NicoAndTheNiners · 10/07/2018 17:30

@ fermatstheorem cant quite get my head round anyone needing to be rescued from Idwal slabs! Grin

LanguidLobster · 10/07/2018 17:35

@Confusedbeetle I think the boys went in by themselves and coach realised and followed, then it flooded. It wouldn't be right to hound him, he'll be beating himself up more than anyone else.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 10/07/2018 18:45

I think the coach as good as admitted he went in with them in his apology letter but if the parents don't blame him then I don't see why people on the other side of the world and completely unrelated to the events have any business doing so.

FermatsTheorem · 10/07/2018 18:51

Well, quite, Nico. Grin It was probably the most spectacular display of complete incompetence ever seen on the crags of N Wales. They didn't half get a bollocking from the mountain rescue. (I think it was a combination of a couple of students who were tight with their brass who didn't want to leave a piece of gear off when they abseiled - though heaven only knows why they didn't just down-climb it, and a passer-by who was a bit too keen with their mobile phone.)

Zebraantelopegiraffe · 10/07/2018 19:17

Can’t wait for the movie Grin
