Apparently David Davis has resigned as Brexit Secretary Shock.

There’s a Guardian article here with reports that he may have resigned - www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/jul/08/david-davis-resigns-as-brexit-secretary-reports-say.

He had no idea HOW to Brexit- nothing, not a scoobie - just like the mn Brexiteers, he couldn’t come up with any workable solutions to the problems we face and now he’s flounced off.

It’s funny, it’s pathetic but let’s watch out for the leadership bid.

SusanWalker · 09/07/2018 07:40

I would love Ken Clarke for PM.

French2019 · 09/07/2018 07:43

I'm not at all surprised that David Davis has gone. I don't think any of the Brexiteers actually want any power or influence over the process of leaving the EU because they can all see now how hideously complicated it is and how disastrous it's going to be. They won't want to bear the responsibility for that, so it's much easier for them to complain from the sidelines that Brexit isn't being done properly. Then, when it all goes pear-shaped, they can argue that this isn't the Brexit that they campaigned for.

David Davis has done virtually nothing as Brexit Secretary. He will not be missed.

SqueeksAway · 09/07/2018 07:44

Oh yes Ken maybe only as PM with a coalition of 8 parties.....

How can people who voted for brexit still want it when it’s descended into this shit show?

I just want it to stop n rewind

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 09/07/2018 07:48

He's flouncing because Brexit cannot be delivered the way hard Brexiteers are imagining.

What are these people on? What a fucking disaster.

Also, why the illusions that Conservative voters are all backing hard Brexit? The Brexit vote was split between Lab and Con, which makes toxic, but not singularity a Con problem.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 09/07/2018 07:52

Also, why are we all lurching from one extreme to the other? Why are politicians feeding the right and the left?

Why are the likes of JRM and DD and JC floating up?

What happened to the centre?

Helmetbymidnight · 09/07/2018 08:02

He’ll be on radio 4 shortly, squirming his way out of it, blaming everyone but himself.

I hope history judges him for the arrogant twat he is.

InspectorIkmen · 09/07/2018 08:04

Bone idle and thick as mince

100% this.

And in the words of the late, great (and fictional!) Francis Urquhart - no bottom

French2019 · 09/07/2018 08:06

I hope history judges him for the arrogant twat he is.

Tbh, I think history will just forget him. If he is remembered at all, I suspect it will only be as one of a band of Brexiteers who didn't have the courage or the vision to actually implement what they had campaigned for.

Childrenofthesun · 09/07/2018 08:08

calling people ‘thick’ just because they didn’t vote in the same was as You makes you come across as really childish.

"Thick as mince" and "lazy as a toad" is how David Davis was famously described in the press by Dominic Cummings, the head of Vote Leave, so someone who did vote the same way as him!

scaryteacher · 09/07/2018 08:08

Helmet Given that no-one, including the EU, had an idea of how to conduct Brexit, as a country voting to leave the EU has never happened before, then I would expect no-one to have a scoobie. Cameron not allowing any planning to be done for Brexit during the referendum was also a mistake.

I am sad has gone - he at least has integrity. I wanted him instead of Cameron as PM. May is selling us down the river, and should go.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/07/2018 08:10

It’s a miracle he’s managed to last this long. The impact assessment debacle and the fact that he’s completely clueless about Brexit ought to have done for him long before now.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/07/2018 08:12

Good. Brexit is a disaster for the UK and the Tories are utterly inept. Strong and stable my arse.

Helmetbymidnight · 09/07/2018 08:14

What rubbish- they’ve been people agitating to leave for years- you’d think one of them could come up with a way we would deal with the issues. But nah, there is no workable plan, they can’t do it, the brexiteer leaders have let you down. Boo hoo.

Butterymuffin · 09/07/2018 08:16

What happened to the centre?

All the anti-Blair feeling hasn't helped with this. A sensible centrist politician with half the semblance of a plan ought to be welcomed with open arms.

Antigonads · 09/07/2018 08:18

At least now something might actually happen.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/07/2018 08:20

David Davis has integrity?

Did you miss the whole thing with the impact assessments where he lied for months?

The EU and U.K. are really not on the same footing when it comes to negotiating Brexit at all. Unlike Davis the EU negotiators have actually researched and understand the consequences of what they propose and know which bits are workable and which aren’t. Davis has just been flailing around cluelessly failing to grasp even simple issues for as long as he’s been in posts.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/07/2018 08:22

I'm listening to him now on Today. Earlier I heard Mr Wetherspoon. These people aren't the brightest stars in the firmament, are they?

French2019 · 09/07/2018 08:25

Given that no-one, including the EU, had an idea of how to conduct Brexit, as a country voting to leave the EU has never happened before, then I would expect no-one to have a scoobie

You don't think that politicians should perhaps have given a little thought as to how it would be possible to implement the monumental changes which they spent years campaigning for?

Helmetbymidnight · 09/07/2018 08:26

He’s a dick.

Brexiteers love him. They don’t care about his lies, the cheating, the complete lack of a plan. It’s extraordinary.

bellinisurge · 09/07/2018 08:30

Hahahahahaha

Believeitornot · 09/07/2018 08:32

^this

and he’s been in post for long enough that he could have at least tried to come up with a workable solution. He was a joke.

Theresa May put him and Boris into the posts that they did to try and show them up. Kind of like those horrible teachers who like to humiliate. However it has backfired as months later we are still in this horrific position. She should have actually put country first and tried just that damn bit harder to lead and come up with a workable solution.

It’s hilarious - because I’ll cry if I think about it - and really shows just how dithering and feet dragging they have been about the whole process. She needs to start making some unpopular decisions as that is what she gets paid for, instead of trying to appease everyone.

There is no compromise which will please both brexiters and remainers. A soft Brexit is still a Brexit and it isn’t Brexit enough.

So pick a side Theresa FFS. Accept that the Tories are close to eating their own arses on this one.

topcat1980 · 09/07/2018 08:37

David Davis has integrity? Ummm, no. Remember the "battle of the summer" where he caved on the first day? The impact assessments that he lied about?

In fact no Brexit politician has any integrity.

They campaigned for something for years, decades, and when it comes down to it have no idea how to achieve what they were campaigning for despite huge amounts of funding.

Anyone voting for this shower has no integrity either.

LuMarie · 09/07/2018 08:38

The day Boris was made Foreign secretary, John Snow had a very balanced non-biased academic on the Channel Four news.

He described it as, "The day irony died".

Amen

Theworldisfullofgs · 09/07/2018 08:43

I reckon it's an attempt at a coup by the ERG.
Or
Potentially a catalyst for another election.
