Apparently David Davis has resigned as Brexit Secretary Shock.

There’s a Guardian article here with reports that he may have resigned - www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/jul/08/david-davis-resigns-as-brexit-secretary-reports-say.

She will be remembered for trying to put a kind of sensible option in place anyway, if nothing else.

That's not what I will remember her for Confused

actuallyquitesmall · 09/07/2018 00:16

Oh gawd I hope TimNiceButDim Jacob RM doesn't get given the job, that's all we need.

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/07/2018 00:18

How can you call JRM 'Tim NICE but dim'... the man is pure evil.

annandale · 09/07/2018 00:18

I don't think JRM is dim! Apparently he is nice.

megletthesecond · 09/07/2018 00:18

Twitter rumour that Steve Baker has gone too?

CoolCarrie · 09/07/2018 00:18

Ffs better the devil we know with may, than JRM or fucking BJ. It would be funny if it wasn’t so serious.

CoolCarrie · 09/07/2018 00:20

Nice? Fucking Nice? You must be joking! He is a throwback to Victorian times, bastard, as is the blond arse!

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/07/2018 00:20

Apparently he is nice.

WTF? I'm sure he's perfectly charming to talk to... but look at his voting record. He is NOT a nice man. He is truly evil.

AMAWriter · 09/07/2018 00:20

I get the feeling that TH would prefer to resign and go on a world cruise than deal with this shit

abilockhart · 09/07/2018 00:21

The lazy toad, who did sweet fuck all for the past two years, finally goes.....

SwedishEdith · 09/07/2018 00:21

I've heard it's Baker who's going. He has a majority of less than 5,000.

LuMarie · 09/07/2018 00:23

Oh, possible leadership challenge tomorrow.

The non-elected non-qualified wife of someone who works for him is stating that TM shouldn't be speaking to Merkel and civil service because they are non-elected and non-qualified. I'm no TM fan, but isn't getting on with a big influence in the EU and listening to experts a very sensible thing to do?

Just when it can't get any crazier, it does.

Boris ends up PM..... seriously? I don't understand this! Something is passing me by on why this could be even considered a possibility. If anyone can explain the appeal, please do!

I think Scotland would be officially be on the way out if Boris ended up in and heading anywhere! No matter what the politics of a Scottish person/adopted Scottish person, it's too far.

keyboardkate · 09/07/2018 00:23

She should sack them all (anti Chequers) and replace with, well you tell me!

The thoughts of a leadership challenge between (e.g.) Buffoon Boris and Gove will be interesting, although I have no doubt others will enter the fray too.

AornisHades · 09/07/2018 00:23

A leadership challenge? Marvellous. Having caused the whole thing in the first place, they've spent most of the two years being ineffectual or in fighting and now with 9 months to go they're proposing to start again.
Is this the point we get an all party negotiating group to salvage something?

SwedishEdith · 09/07/2018 00:24

They don't need to replace him. Just get rid of the unnecessary department.

TolpuddleFarterOATB · 09/07/2018 00:26

The reason David Davis has done "nothing" is his hands have been tied the whole way through by Olly Robbins working with Theresa May (and Robbins is a remainer.)

If you want to have an idea of how Theresa May would be a dreadful prime minister to work for, read Fall Out by Tim Shipman. I'm surprised David Davis didn't walk ages ago.

LuMarie · 09/07/2018 00:26

@Icantreachthepretzels

Amen

Voting records say a lot about a person. Plus beyond that, I find him to be an insufferable twat!

annandale · 09/07/2018 00:27

I disagree with pretty much everything JRM has ever said and think he is both devious and manipulative, but both Mhairi Black and Jess Phillips count him as a parliamentary friend and say he is lovely to talk to =nice.

keyboardkate · 09/07/2018 00:27

Reports saying Steve Baker gone also. Not confirmed. Just what I am reading.

CoolCarrie · 09/07/2018 00:29

We should all be watching The Thick Of It now!
I wish Spitting Image was still around now.

LuMarie · 09/07/2018 00:30

@annandale

It's possible to be "charming" and well mannered and whilst being devious and manipulative though isn't it? Often it's the use of charm that gets particularly scheming individuals further than they ever should.

RustyBear · 09/07/2018 00:30

Wikipedia already has Secretary of State and Parliamentary UnderSecretary of State in DExEU listed as ‘Vacant Resigned’

LuMarie · 09/07/2018 00:33

Yep, Steve Baker resigned too.

If only resignation meant what it does for other professions... goodbye forever!

DioneTheDiabolist · 09/07/2018 00:34

I'm not sure TM will be appointing anyone . I think she will be too busy packing. I can't see how she can stay following her statement on Friday and then this. Shock

Looks like we're in for a political bloodbath this week. And Trump is visiting. And a football thing is happening. The news is going to be great craic. GrinGrinGrin

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/07/2018 00:34

but both Mhairi Black and Jess Phillips count him as a parliamentary friend and say he is lovely to talk to =nice.

I'm sure he is lovely to talk to (if you can bring yourself to overlook his voting record .. I couldn't) but that veneer of charm is hiding an extremely dangerous man underneath. Aren't psychopaths meant to be extremely charming? I'm not suggesting he is one - but their existence alone shows that 'lovely to talk to' does not equal 'nice' by any stretch of the imagination!
