Apparently David Davis has resigned as Brexit Secretary Shock.

There’s a Guardian article here with reports that he may have resigned - www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/jul/08/david-davis-resigns-as-brexit-secretary-reports-say.

And Trump is visiting

Oh yeah... If May is ousted this week (and I'm afraid to say I really hope she isn't - much as I can't stand her) then what happens for his visit? No PM and the governing party in disarray - that's not exactly going to create a favourable impression with the man some of our more terrifying politicians are hoping to cosy up to.

or possibly he reckons that being first to resign puts him in pole position.

He lost the leadership campaign before last to Cameron, perhaps he reckons his chances against a bunch of backstabbers

DioneTheDiabolist · 09/07/2018 00:40

Oops. Double posted.Blush Have reported.

WallisWindsor · 09/07/2018 00:41

If Brexit ever happens, I will eat my leg. Looks like Soros magic is working (again).

Walkingdeadfangirl · 09/07/2018 00:41

TM can shake Trumps hand and then we can get someone else to take over who is unsullied from his visit and get us out of the EU properly.

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/07/2018 00:42

If Brexit ever happens, I will eat my leg

Then I wish you a long, two legged life!

LuMarie · 09/07/2018 00:44

@Icantreachthepretzels

Trump will go to play golf. He'll be met by invitations to Mosques and Mexican flags (as he was last time he was there), a huge balloon will be there and no one will know the difference. BJ can body double for him on the ground. Or he'll say it's all Sadiq Khan's fault.

actuallyquitesmall · 09/07/2018 00:46

I do agree that upper class twit Rees Mogg is odious considerably less agreeable than the Tim Nice-but-Dim (the character created by the comedian Harry Enfield), but even he has trouble competing with the utterly repellent and hair-raisingly odious Gove.

And Trump is on the way. Ye Gods. I can feel my hackles rising already.

keyboardkate · 09/07/2018 00:47

Suella Braverman gone also.

According to what I am reading, not confirmed.

tldr · 09/07/2018 00:51

We’re fucked. In what possible way now are we not all just fucked?

Childrenofthesun · 09/07/2018 00:58

Suella Braverman gone also

The good news just keeps on coming. Odious woman, hope it's true.

I would like to propose Ken Clarke as the new Brexit secretary.

quizqueen · 09/07/2018 01:03

I'm very sad if this is true. He was ex SAS and would have been steadfast to the end but May took over the negotiations and made him redundant. Every Remainer, I've ever met, never had a good word to say about the EU before the referendum and now suddenly they love it. I'm been wanting to leave since I voted leave the first time round in 1975.
The EU won't even agree to this new bodged deal because they think the more difficult they make it for us, the more likely we are to change our mind. All they are interested in is our money.

DioneTheDiabolist · 09/07/2018 01:09

The Trump visit is the diplomatic equivalent of going to a dinner party with a divorcing couple. It's going to be so cringe.Blush

If I was TM, I'd just go tomorrow and leave them all to it.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 09/07/2018 01:13

The Trump visit is the diplomatic equivalent of going to a dinner party with a divorcing couple

This ^^ cringe

LuMarie · 09/07/2018 01:16

Well the resignation letter is about as grammatically skilled as a tipsy MN looking for a bunfight with the grammar police, and, or, and ,or ,and, and, and

.....and flounce

TM pulled the Article 50 trigger 15 months ago and the cabinet is still squabbling over whether to aim the gun at our head or only at our foot.

foxssoxareinthebox · 09/07/2018 07:03

Imichlibob - he left because he is standing by his principles. Teresa May was and still is a remainer. She is delivering a Brexit in name only. Oh and calling people ‘thick’ just because they didn’t vote in the same was as You makes you come across as really childish.

Unfinishedkitchen · 09/07/2018 07:08

He did fuck all and looks like he’d rather spend his time propping up the golf club bar so he won’t be missed.

He spent a total of 4 hours with Barnier he never even took a pen. Olympic level laziness.

He’s realised Brexit is a distaster and not the easy divorce he thought it would be so he’s jumped so he can’t be blamed for the final outcome

The80sweregreat · 09/07/2018 07:21

If there is an autumn election looming on the back of all this ( it is being mooted on various websites already) there could then be the rise of UKIP again - i wouldn't put it past them to re- recruit Farage as leader.

I listened to LBC late friday night and lots of very hissing/ fed up Tories ringing in wanting TM's head on a plate! She will be gone soon.

Butterymuffin · 09/07/2018 07:26

I would like to propose Ken Clarke as the new Brexit secretary.

Ken Clarke for PM! Grin

LuMarie · 09/07/2018 07:30

I'd be more than happy with Ken Clarke too!
